My trip this weekend at Albertsons went pretty well! The shelf cost for all these items was $107.85, but I ended up paying $23.15 out of pocket. So I saved a whopping $84.70 or 78.5%! To accomplish this, I used a combination of manufacturers' coupons, store coupons, competitor coupons (which Albertsons accepts), and rebate money of $15. (At some point in the near future, I'll spend some time discussing rebates. I really DO think some of them are worth the trouble – especially when the rebate you receive exceeds the amount you spent as in the case of my $15 rebate!)
So here is what I purchased:
- 5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast
- garlic, 2 onions, cilantro
- 2 small bottles ketchup
- 1 box rice
- 5 boxes Raisin Bran (4 small, 1 large to fit coupon requirements)
- 1 bottle Cherry 7-Up (FREE)
- 1 gallon milk
- 1 gallon orange juice
- 2 8-oz. blocks sharp cheddar cheese
- 2 8-oz. bags shredded Mexican blend cheese
- 1 package 8-ct hamburger buns
- 1 package 10-ct tortillas
- 16-oz bag pistachios
- 2 packages Wrigley gum (FREE)
- 3 boxes of Beechnut Cereal on clearance! (By the way, call Beechnut and request a Parent's Pack for some great money-saving coupons!)
My trip took maybe 30 minutes to plan and took place all at one store. Think of it this way, I saved $85 by taking 30 extra minutes out of my week. I strongly believe in the adage "a penny saved is a penny earned," and there's the proof. That is time well spent in my book!
In case you're wondering what I'm going to be doing with my groceries, this week's menu includes BBQ beef sandwiches, Arroz Con Pollo, chicken enchiladas, and spaghetti. I generally cook once every other night and then we eat leftovers. As I already have produce, paper products, and diapers on hand, I didn't need to purchase those items. I hope this shows you that you CAN save good money on stuff you already buy…nothing weird!
Be sure to leave a comment with your successes! Happy shopping everyone!
