Review* and Giveaway Contest: Field Roast Grain Meat!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Field Roast's factory in Seattle, Washington. I was impressed with their company, their philosophy, and most of all – their products. They have also graciously teamed with me to offer three lucky readers the chance to try some of their amazing food for free!

During the '90s, Chef David Lee was working on developing tasty vegetarian recipes and founded Field Roast. He drew on ancient Chinese and Japanese techniques of forming protein-rich grain meat from wheat and added disctinctly European flavors. The result? A very tasty and healthy alternative to meat.

On the day of my visit, I found Mr. Lee in the kitchen – hairnet and all – overseeing the preparations of that day's batch of food. This is a man who is obviously passionate about what he does – every process of it.

He later explained to me the care that Field Roast puts into their food. They use whole, real ingredients – often from local suppliers and farmers. Unlike a typical factory, these ingredients are painstakingly prepped by hand. And boy, did it smell good in there!

We were sent home with a variety of products to try. That evening, we tried the
Smoked Apple Sage Sausage. While it did resemble a thick bread in taste, the texture most certainly reminded me of meat. And I was left feeling completely satisfied. It was delicious! I also enjoyed the Celebration Roast. This item would make a lovely vegetarian alternative to a traditional holiday dinner. Each roast is made by hand and stuffed with a sausage-style filling that includes butternut squash, apples, and mushrooms. Our family enjoyed it – including our children! Again, it was incredibly hearty and filling and both my husband and I went for seconds. It was
that good!

Whether or not you are a vegetarian, these would be delicious items to have on hand. They freeze well, and can safely be refrigerated up to 6 weeks. Mr. Lee explained that when he develops his products, he puts flavor first. This is apparent; his creations are full of flavor and texture.
