Reader “wraps up” 2010 holiday shopping

Reader Rebecca scored big time at Target yesterday. Look what she found at their twice-yearly 75% toy clearance sale:

Rebecca

The total retail value of these toys was $700, but she made out like a bandit and paid just $156! Her favorite find? The Playskool Monty Rex toys which she paid just $4.75 each after clearance and coupons (remember those Playskool coupons?) She told me that this actually completes most of her 2010 holiday shopping. Crazy, right?

I was unaware this sale was going on, but I did participate last July and found some steals myself! I can attest that these unadvertised markdown days are an excellent way to score quality items on the cheap.

I decided to do a little poking to see what I could learn about these sales so I can keep my readers informed for the next time. Bargain Jargon had some excellent information about this. First read the basics of how the toy clearance sale works. Then you might also be interested to read what goes on markdown and when at Target.

UPDATE: SEE THIS POST! The sale may well still be in progress today!

It appears that Target stores started marking down items to 75% yesterday and it is possible you'd still find discounts if you went today – but I'd go like – NOW! If you're like me and missed this sale entirely, no worries – we still have one more such sale before the 2010 holiday season. (Isn't it funny I'm ALREADY talking holidays? Such is the life of a couponer…always prepared!)

Thanks Rebecca, for sharing your shopping trip and cluing me in to how these sales work! They'll be on my radar now. Did any of my other readers know about and/or participate in this sale? Anyone grabbing the keys and heading out?

This is what I do every year so I don’t have to
1) pay full price and
2) pay it all out of pocket at once
Awesome deals!

Thanks for the links Angela. This is one of my favorite sales every year. It saves our family a ton of money.
