My Walgreens’ trip

I had a $10 Register Reward expiring today so of course, I had to drop everything and find something to do with it! And of course, the Walgreens next to me was out of some of the sales I'd wanted to do – Aveeno Baby Shampoo and the vitamins. Oh well, I found some unexpected sales and worked a little magic anyways:

Mar02
So the Schick razor was on Register Reward sale. Incidentally, I found a couple of the razors…er…hidden? in random places in the store. I sure hope this was just the result of a last minute decision to not buy them and not the deliberate act of someone wanting to "reserve" them for later. (No one would dare do such a thing, you think?)

Instead of pouting that the items I'd wanted were gone, I thought about a couple ways I could creatively and wisely spend my Register Reward. It occurred to me the kids were almost out of toothpaste, and wouldn't you know it? The Orajel was buy one for $3.99, get one free! I also decided to throw in some of the instant coffee. They are 2 for $2 (and yes, you must buy 2 to get them for $1 each). To my surprise, look what printed out when I completed my purchase – a coupon for another FREE instant coffee! Sweet! I also wanted some eye liner and found these Wet 'n Wild varieties for cheap.

Ready for my breakdown?

Subtotal:  $25.06
Store sales: $4.99
Coupons (including Register Rewards): $16.00
Bottom line: $4.07 (and that includes $1.52 in tax!!)

AND, I got a $3 Register Reward for buying the razor! Score! So while things didn't go entirely as planned, I found a couple unexpected deals (and without coupons, to boot) and ended up with some items I really needed. Wondering what's on sale at Walgreens this week – be sure to read my weekly deal post.

Did you score a good deal this week? I'd love to feature you, and it's been awhile since I had a reader testimonial. Consider emailing me a picture of your finds along with a breakdown of how you did it to thecouponproject at hotmail dot com. Oh, and do be sure your deal lines up with my coupon guidelines to make sure I'll post it!

Great job!
When I first started spending coupons, I would get so flustered if something was out of stock. Now it’s still frustrating, but I can usually manage. Sometimes in the drug stores I’ll go sit in the pharmacy waiting area to look through the ad and my available coupon if I have to rework something.

Walgreens was good this week. Did the Kotex deal(had to rub elbows with a fellow couponer in that aisle), and with the RR’s plus coupons they came out to $1/3 packs.

On a side note, I went to Safeway tonight and in the dairy section they had what they call an “Overstock Clearance” on Yo PLus($1.29) and GoGurt($.99!). I had a $1 coupon for the Yo Plus but didn’t have my GoGurt coupons because to me they are not high value enough to bother with…though if you use the $.40 – $.60 off coupons that are out there that makes for some cheap yogurt w/expiration dates in April and you can freeze it.

Lisa, I’m curious about freezing yogurt! I know some people do this and just eat it frozen, do you do this? Or do you then defrost in your fridge, and if so, does the consistency stay the same?

Angela,
I’ve put yogurt in the freezer for a summer treat before as an alternative to ice cream. I’ve never defrosted it. But Gogurt(Yoplait) is made for that purpose-you freeze it and put it in your kid’s lunchbox and it thaws by lunchtime. The consistency is the same as regular yogurt once it’s thawed. You have to consume it by the ‘sell by’ date even if you freeze it.
I went back to Safeway(W.Seattle) this morning with coupons and they had changed the price back already :( .

I got the Taster’s choice today, but nothing printed out :( Still a decent deal, though. I’m in KY.
