Safeway cereal promotion: buy 5, save $5

SafewayCereal

There's a great cereal promotion running at Safeway this week: buy 5 participating boxes, and save $5 at checkout with your Club Card. The $5 will come off instantly. According to the fine print, the limit is 20 boxes. It also appears that fruit snacks and granola bars are part of the promotion as well.

In my experience with these promotions, there were many, many more brands participating at the store than had been advertised – including some of the natural/organic labels and granola. My best advice? Bring ALL your cereal coupons just in case!! And look for peelies – in the past I've had luck just buying boxes with peelie coupons on them!

Below are some of the matchups and coupons I am aware of. Note that my price categories are assuming you are buying in multiples of $5.

That cereal sale is confusing. I tried to get 20 boxes with coupons. I asked them if I needed to do separate transactions and the cashier said oh no the catalinas will print no problem. yeah right. I only got one for $4. Then I had to go to customer service to refund and try again. (what a nightmare with my kids with me as they had a half day of school today) Then after all that only one other catalina printed for $3. She told me the reason is only one catalina for $4 per family. Ugggh!

Oh well I still got them at $1 a box in the end not bad for cereal. Thanks for the heads up. We are officially stocked up for a bit ;)

Abby, I don’t know if I’m missing something – is there a Catalina deal on top of this promotion? Enlighten me.

There is a catalina deal, although I’m not sure what it is. I took my mom shopping with me yesterday to get some cereal. I bought 10 boxes of the Quaker Squares. No Catalina printed. She bought 1 box of the Quaker squares and 4 boxes of Fruity pebbles. Out popped a $3 Catalina.

I have no idea how the Catalina deal works but my first one that popped out said buy 5 boxes get a $4 catalina, but 4 boxes get a $3 catalina. I think there was one more but I can’t remember what it said (I spent my catalinas sorry)

Bottom line is I am not sure what items are part of the catalina print out. I ended up buying 20 boxes of cereal. I was mistaken with my total I gave you above. I ended up spending $14.35. I got 20 boxes of cereal and 5 boxes of fruit snacks. Not bad huh?
