I recently heard about House Party for the first time. I was intrigued and thought I’d share with you what I’ve learned. Of course, if you’ve ever thrown a House Party, I hope you’ll weigh in in the comments.
Here’s the basics. House Party provides an opportunity for people to experience brands for free in a fun, laid-back environment: a party! For instance, right now you can apply for parties sponsored by Verizon, Splenda, Kleenex, and/or Playstation 3. By applying, you’re agreeing to host a party to represent that brand. From all applicants, they will select 1,000 party hosts. If you are one of the luck ones, they will send you with a bunch of goodies to give out along with instructions and ideas.
Abby from Steals and Deals was recently selected for the Shrek/McDonald’s House Party. Here’s what she got:
And Christy from Thrifty and Thriving and Sarah from The Life of a Couponaholic were recently selected for the Febreze House Party. Look at all the stuff Christy received to throw her fabulous party! They sent this all to her for free in exchange for throwing a party themed around the products! The best part, you are NOT having to sell anything.

For more on how this works or to start applying for parties, go here. I’ve had several readers mention now that they’ve had to apply for several parties before getting selected. So don’t give up or get discouraged if you’re not selected right away.
Any other tips or advice about throwing a House Party?

Wow! Both of these parties look awesome. I have done a couple in the past. Some promotions are definitely better than others!
I would definitely say that it is worthwhile. The application can take a bit and you may have to do several before you are picked, but I just hosted a Ball Fresh Taste of Summer canning party and it was so much fun! No to mention all the goodies they sent! I got a canner, canning tools, jars, pectin, guide to preserving, reusable grocery bags, coupons and more… I did have to buy all the produce needed to make the salsa and pepper jelly recipes they sent to be made at the party, but that was far less than all they sent.
I hosted a DiGiorno one and went all out for it. Decorated, had oodles of people over for a basketball game themed party, etc., then got picked to do the Breyers party and I had no energy left. I ended up giving away the coupons to friends and telling them to give feedback on the product through the House Party website. I’m taking a break from House Party. LOL!
I have applications in and hoping to get picked
here’s my blog post about our Digiorno one. LOTS of quality, free stuff and high value coupons. SO much fun!

I definitely think it’s worth it! I was picked to host a Martha Stewart Crafts houseparty back in Nov. We did it as our MOPS table get together & we got to make 3 adorable crafts. We got a TON of Michael’s 50% off coupons for Martha Stewart crafts which I shared with our whole MOPS group, along with some awesome craft supplies I got to keep (2 big craft paper punches & more supplies).
I just did one on Saturday. It is lots of fun and you get some great freebies. Here is my latest party report.

I just did the Hasbor Game Night on Friday. I had a blast with my friends playing the Trival Pursuit, Taboo and the Catch Phrases games I was sent in my party pack. When you sign up they do not say how much you have to spend. This was my first one so we went overboard on BBq food, but you can certainly have a frugal one. It was fun and easy and now we have decided to have game night every month! Those games would have cost me quite a bit retail so I was pleased!
I just got selected for the Kleenex House party at the end of July and Just wanted to say thank you for telling me about it. I am so excited! Amy in Boise, ID
I too just got selected for the Kleenex Clean & Fresh Hands House in July. I want to thank you for posting this. I have tried a few times in the past but gave up until you posted this. So thank you so much! I wish you lived here I would invite you! I have to laugh because I am in Boise Idaho as well as Amy.
