According to WalletPop, McDonalds has postponed – and perhaps will even cancel – the free smoothie offer I shared with you last week.
The reasoning? They want to make sure they have adequate stock on hand so they don’t end up like KFC did last year during their free grilled chicken promotion.
McDonalds, really? Seriously? You are THE largest fast food chain in the world…I should hope you have some idea about proper inventory levels at this point in the game. And I should seriously hope your Marketing Team will think a little harder next time before advertising a poorly-hatched promotion.
Buh duh duh duh duh…NOT lovin’ it.

This is crazy! I just got news that there will be coupons for FREE Smoothies (12 oz) in this weekend’s paper. What do they plan to do about those?
I think they’re hoping you’ll turn them into paper airplanes.
The $1 coupon is a poorly hatched promo as well. I went to the Westwood Village McD’s and tried to use the coupon to get my son a smoothie. The cashier(wearing a white shirt so looked like a mgr) said that they didn’t have a designated button for the coupon. I told her it had a bar code, and she still wouldn’t(not couldn’t because she didn’t try) figure out how to use the coupon.
Okay I’m more disgruntled at them canceling then if they ran out! Plus comeon have a coupon for people in case you do run out and they can come back for one when they are back in stock. I agree boooo.
i used my $1 off smoothie coupon, one mgr didnt know how to use and just gave me 1/2 off and the other time they knew where the $1 off key was. sad about the free promo though, they are good!
Good gravy, McD’s…get it together!
No biggie…There’s a coupon in the Parade magazine for a free fruit smoothie or frappe. So you can still get a free one.
For McDonald’s to use that excuse, it’s a bold face lie. They are the largest fast food company in the world. They know how to handle this. What they are probably shocked at is that the news spread so fast. They must have new people in marketing that do not realize the power of the internet. McD’s just (well, not more than one or two years ago) did a promo with their McCafe for free drinks. All they had to do was model that program. My free advice to them: fire the new marketing people. They do not have real MBA’s. -from someone with a real MBA that is a couponer as well
