Angela – awesome video! I love that you’re doing this – it’s soooooo great. I watched you while I ironed tonight : )
I had to laugh because you’re organization journey and mine are so similar. I’ve pretty much arrived at the same place (filing inserts after picking out favorites for my binder). I’m actually in the process of 3-hole punching my inserts and organizing them by colored binder w/tabs for dates (I love your page-matching idea – I hadn’t thought of that). I was worried, at first, about hole-punching as I didn’t want to obscure barcodes, etc. but I figure the bottom (or top) portion of the code will still scan and, if nothing else, the code can be typed in).
Also, something you didn’t mention but that I’m curious about: how do you “clip” your coupons? I’d always used scissors, but after awhile, my hand would ache and it takes a lot of time. What I discovered works incredibly well is the slicer (I used Pampered Chef’s I-Slice). It fits on my key-ring (it will also affix to anything magnetic) and it only cost me $3.75. All I have to do is position a square of cardboard between the pages and, in just four quick slices, I have a perfectly cut coupon (it even handles the thinnest of papers!) – Okay, so I’ve even timed myself – It takes me 10 seconds less per coupon to use the slicer AND I don’t get those dangling edges of paper – just precisely cut squares. Perhaps this is how most couponers “clip” (?) but I was never aware of a different method until recently so I thought I’d mention it in case there’s someone like me out there…
Lastly, I’m glad you mentioned why it’s important to save coupons you might otherwise toss. And…. hey, girl – that’s a good reason right there for you to clip that Zegerid coupon (!) There is a Video Values reward (July) which, added to the in-store and manf. coupons, makes this item zero OOP AND a $7 MM at Rite Aid this week! Yowza!
Anyway, I LOVE the videos – please keep up the excellent work!!!!!!!!!!
I had a couple of issues with 3 hole punching my inserts. But I have a great solution…I found plastic covers (I think they’re made for reports) that fit in my 3 ring binder and just put the whole insert in there. I holds atleast 5 at a time and they are in chronological order. Much faster since you also don’t have to put holes into it! I found the plastic covers at Staples, I don’t remember the exact price but reasonable!
Thanks, AnnMarie – Great idea!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed your webcast tonight. Thanks for sharing. I just went from the combined system to a full binder system because I was tired of not having that coupon when I was a Target and something was on clearance.
I like your colored folder system for the ads. An idea that came to mind was to label them Jan/Feb, Mar/Apr, and so on instead of erasing the dates and use them every year. Just a thought.
Thanks again for sharing with us.
Great job! I finally got to see one of your video classes. (Okay, I confess that I didn’t really watch; I listened while I was working in the kitchen.) I love how you emphasized that one specific method won’t work for everyone and encouraged everyone to find her own style.
hi
i just watched you webcast of starting out it was great my daughter and i want to start but didnt know where to start this is a great help. Im gonna watch the rest of you webcast to get caught up and my daughter is coming over sat andwell get supplies and start up. If you have any tips freel free to tell.
Loved this! I have been a big fan of the insert filing method for years now. I keep a stapler handy and staple my inserts together first thing to make sure everything stays together. I also write the date big on the front. If you’re not sure of the date, it is actually printed on the spine of the whole packet. This makes it easy in case you get behind on your filing (which I often do ). I love your little mini file that you take to the store. I need to get one of those. I have just used envelopes or ziplocs in the past, but that little file seems much nicer.
