Introduction to work-at-home series

Several weeks ago now I was inspired to share with you my passion about earning money from home. So I’m setting out to do exactly that!

A little about my story first. Five years ago, I was working as an administrative assistant to executive management at a community bank. I enjoyed steady full-time pay and for the most part, the work was challenging enough. But when my husband and I decided it was time to start a family, I knew I wanted to leave. Without having any plan other than leaving, I quit. I knew the most important thing was that my family came first, and for me that meant not being tied up 40 hours at an office. However, we knew we’d have to find creative ways to save and earn money to keep our family going.

Three months after having my son, my husband dragged drove me to the business license department. I’d been talking forever about wanting to pursue my writing, and prior to leaving the bank a coworker had suggested I look into copywriting. It seemed a good fit for me. But still, the idea of opening and running my own business? That was a little scary. So thank God for my husband! And thank God the very awesome Marketing Manager of the bank I’d worked at believed in me enough to become my first paying client! And so Angela Russell Copywriting Services was born.

In reflecting on my post-corporate life, I feel I have much to be proud of. Have I effectively replaced my full time income? No, not yet. (I’m also not working full time hours, either.) But I have gained skills and confidence I never would have at my office job. Consider what new-found proficiencies I could add to a resume now:

- Entrepreneurship
- Networking skills
- Advertising & marketing (including print and social media)
- Blog monetization strategies
- Public speaking
- Experience with working with national brands & retailers
- Business accounting & administration

Sheesh. No one can say I’ve been resting on my laurels, can they? This stay-at-home mommy has been working her tush off and is now more job-ready than if she would have stayed at her office position. Go figure! (The thing is though…I don’t want to go back. I LOVE what I do.)

I will be sharing more about my experience as a freelance writer at the conclusion of this series. But first, I have an awesome line-up of readers currently in work-at-home positions. Starting tomorrow and running for the next two weeks, I will feature a new reader every day making money from home. To keep things consistent, I posed the same set of questions to each reader.

If you’re considering working from home, my best advice would be to carefully read your way through the entire series first. From there, you can decide if any sound particularly interesting to you to begin your research. A HUGE thank you to those readers that chose to participate!I hope this series will make a difference in your life! If if does? I’d love to hear from you!

Disclosure: First, you should know I am NOT being paid by any of the readers that are participating in this series, nor am I paying them. I will be randomly selecting one of them to win a small gift card as a “thank you” for their participation. I have not personally verified the facts of anything they’ve mentioned in their interview, nor have I double-checked any company mentioned on the BBB or any similar due diligence. I’m taking what they’ve shared in good faith and at face value. As with any situation where you are setting out to make money, do your research and make sure you can financially assume any risks involved. As always, understand your results earning money in any of the ways shared will vary.

I am looking forward to the series. I just lost my job of 13 years and my husband is also encouraging me to seek a work at home venture!

I am a single mother who would love to be able to work from home. A far-fetched dream maybe, but who knows? Looking forward to the series.

I’m looking forward to the series! I’m a stay at home mom, but am looking to find something legitimate to do from home to help with the family’s finances.

I’m happy to say the readers that will be sharing are from a wide range of industries. Some are making a little extra and others are making FT incomes.
