I got the most wonderful email in my inbox this morning. I asked the sender if I could share it with you because I found it so inspiring!
If you’ve been on the fence about couponing, I hope you’ll take a minute to read what she’s said…

Hi Angela,
It’s me again! Now that I’ve truly been bitten by the “coupon bug”, I thought I’d just share a few quick victories…
The weekend before T’giving I scored lots of coupons by just going to my local Starbucks and picking up the Sunday inserts everyone was throwing out – sweet! I even asked someone reading a paper at McDonald’s if I could have his inserts. I am truly shameless… Then I went on to my BIG GOAL and that was to get something (basically anything) for free because, well, just because I knew it was possible. So off I went to my local grocery and drug stores (Fred Meyer, Albertsons, Walgreens) where I proceeded to get 2 FREE jars of gravy, a FREE roast, butter for $.50, pasta sauce for $.45, gift wrap (the good kind) for $1per roll and the list goes on! Wow!! I am now officially addicted to couponing…
While I am careful to make sure items are things I need, I’m slowly building up my downstairs pantry which my 8yr. old daughter has renamed “The Store”. I’ll tell her I need something and we go down to get it but not before she magically turns into a grocery clerk who asks me for my card first– too cute.
Thank you for this fun, new hobby and great way to save money. See you at the stores!
P.S. Forget world peace – my new goal is that free toothpaste you talked about. Hmmm…
Welcome, Wendy, to the wonderful world of couponing! Thanks for sharing your story!

Wendy, welcome aboard.
Angela, thanks for all you do to feed my coupon addiction.
Ahh…..the glow of a newbie. I love it!
My thoughts exactly…gotta love it!
I’m impressed… When I first started couponing, I bought anything and everything that was listed as as great deal. I stocked up! Then I realized I really do not like this type of soap or whatnot… So, even if it looks like a good deal, it’s just not for me. Now I love scoring free razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, food… A friend of mine also commented that it’s been over a year since she paid for toothbrushes or toothpaste or floss. What an accomplishment to just cut those things out of my budget! When I had bad morning sickness and couldn’t shop, we used my stockpile intensely. My husband went from making fun (not really) about the stockpile to wondering when it’d be back in stock with this or that item. Congratulations, Wendy! I hope you continue to enjoy your store!
The last year has been such an amazing shift in the way we do our shopping. I laugh when my Husband, instead of saying “the next time you’re at the store will you buy chips”, he says “when you have a good coupon for them, can you buy chips?”.
And then when you find the sale, you come home with several bags. And he is happy.
Too funny…..my husband says the same thing! We’ve taught them well.
my husband says, “don’t you have a coupon for xyz?” (most recently his brand of deodorant) of course, i never do! i have, literally, between my stock and our teenage son’s, at least over 10 new deodorants—would they work for him? of course not.
i’m a couponing newbie too. i swore i’d never, but sure enough, i’ve got the big binder!
today i was thinking about my colleagues (who i had just shared a boatload of online $10/$50 store coupons with) and was having a conversation with myself (???!) and the phrase “coupon community” came to mind. and i thought, “i’m part of that community” and then thought, “oh my, a year ago i would have been mortified to think that” but now i’m proud! i really love the math associated with figuring sales, coupons, up rewards, RR, etc! (i use couponing scenarios in math all the time–the other day a student asked, “don’t you ever buy anything without a coupon?” “well, my young friend, i try not to.”
i also love the thrill of the “treasure hunt”.
I know just how she feels – I just started using coupons a month or so ago and it is really fun when you get the things you need for less. My favorite so far….the sonicare toothbrush (79.99) at Rite Aid for $49.99 minus $20.00 Rebate, minus $10.00 Rebate, minus $4.00 coupon, minus $15.00 coupon so I think altogether it was $0.99. I was on cloud nine.
Awesome story!
I can totally relate! I started couponing a few months ago and I LOVE it!!! I love getting things for free and cheap, it’s addicting. I love saving my family money so we can do other things.
