How I’m getting fit these days for cheap!

I’m a firm believer it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to get in shape!

While I’m a runner by heart, sometimes it’s just too difficult to make it out of the house for a run or to the gym. So while this doesn’t have much to do with couponing, I thought I’d share my “go-to” workout with you. Chances are, some of you have heard of it before or have even done it before!

Yup…it’s the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels! Right now it’s just $7.99 at Amazon. PLUS, when you buy it, you’ll ALSO get the Video on Demand version for FREE! This means you’ll be able to watch it workout right away from your Amazon account.

Here’s another tip. If you’re a Comcast subscriber, you can head to On Demand, then select Health & Fitness, and then Exercise TV, and then Jillian Michaels. The first 30 Day Shred workout is actually available in its entirety! Give it a go, see what you think.

Here’s why I love this workout:

  • It’s fast. The video consists of three 20-minute workouts.
  • It requires minimal equipment. Just some handweights and a mat are all you need.
  • It works. I did this workout for the first time in December of 2009 and lost 10 pounds the first month. And this without crazy dieting or anything.

My Results on the Shred

I can’t believe I’m sharing this with you, but I heart this workout so much that I thought I’d share the transformation I underwent last year primarily doing this workout. I also added some running in after a couple months. The “before” picture was taken early Dec 09 and the “after” in early April 10.

So there you have it! 20 minutes a day, drinking a bunch of water, and adding in a few runs! This was a total weight loss of about 17 pounds and went from a size 12 to a size 8. The last month or so I’ve not kept up with working out like I should. I just re-started the Shred yesterday, so if anyone cares to join me, please do.

What are you doing to get fit in 2011?

LOL! I did this last year too, with P90X, Turbo Jam, and a lot of other fun and great workouts, the last few months I have not done as much and gained a few pounds, lost some of my tone and have focused on stretching to help my back pain. The LOL is that I just started doing the 30 day shred again yesterday too! Keep it up and check back in, it helps to declare it to keep motivated. I didn’t miss a day, not a single day with some form of exercise last year, excluding the Sabbath, and I felt so great, I got to keep it up because I’ve slacked the last few weeks with my eating. You know though, us Mothers can do it, we need to do it- for us and for our kids!!! A healthy Mom is a healthier Mom and gives a priceless example to generations of posterity! Go for it Mothers!

Did you do this workout 7 days a week?

I don’t know if you are talking to me, but I did it 6 days a week. If you ever can get a Turbo Jam they are so fun too!

I started Weight Watchers in October. I had a bit of a slow start, but I recently kicked my rear into gear and hit my treadmill. I’ve lost 10 lbs so far, I have another 25 to 30 to go but I’m pretty excited.

My husband and I are trying to do a lifewtly change so that we can keep it up forever…..we are working out at the gym a few times a week including hot yoga (which is so hard, but awesome!), and we got one of the Kinect fitness games which works if there isn’t time for the gym. We are drinking way more water and incorporating lots more veggies and lean protein for dinner. So far, good, I lost 4 pounds the first week we started.d
We also gave up aspartame and all artificial sweetners and that has helped too :)

And that should say lifestyle.

ITA all about lifestyle!! I like this workout for a swift kick in the butt, but what I really love is running & racing. I like to do a lot of races if possible b/c they hold me accountable to keeping fit.

Awesome for you for putting the before and after pictures up! Seeing it right infront of you on the screen makes it real.

I wish life weren’t so chaotic for me right now, I’d love to get back into my 6 days per week gym routine, but alas, “my” gym is now 70 minutes outside of my current city :(

(how’s that for an excuse?)

Yeah, I used to be the kind of gal that would easily workout 1 – 2 hours in the gym 4-5 times a week. But that was before kids, and before working from home! I think I’ve learned that what’s most important is just making time for health & fitness, even if it can’t be what it used to.

This has been on my to-do list to buy and I just keep forgetting. I didn’t realize that you could get the On Demand version for free, so I can start right away. Oh good, no procrastinating.. :)

My husband is doing P90X, but I just feel like I won’t have the time with as young as my kids are. I can’t imagine blogging and committing that kind of time to the workout. My diet and exercise routine thus far has consisted of nursing a baby while having my toddler play horsey on my leg. :)

Thanks for the kick, the pictures are awesome!

I’ve consulted the Comcast On Demand 30 day shred, as well as Jillian’s other stuff on there. She has 3-4 workouts available on there for free, so I try to rotate those around, along with some running/elliptical. That, combined with making good food choices, helped me lose 25 lbs last year! I really slacked off over the holidays and gained a few back, plus lost a bit of my tone, so I’m kicking back up this week, too. Here’s to our health!

Hmmm…maybe I should spend some of Swagbucks on getting this DVD on Amazon! :) Way to go, girl!

Oh do! You will LOVE this workout! OK, maybe not so much when you’re actually DOING it, but you get what I mean… ;)

I ended up getting it at Costco today for $7.99. I have decided to save all my Swagbucks for a Kindle!!! Might take awhile, but I’m at least I’m practicing self-restraint, budgeting, frugality, and delayed gratification. Could also help with the Shred efforts. LOL

I am doing p90x (again) did it 60 days last time then stopped and my blogger butt grew twice the size! I am all motivated this time though and created my meal plan to go with it. No more coffee, no more wine (whining for sure) except I am allowing myself to do what I want on Sundays. While this isn’t a life style it will help me get to my goal and then I will just maintain.

Oh and I have told myself I am not allowed to be on the computer until I finish my work out. I did this once with my bible reading and it worked :)

5 days compete and only 85 to go!

Hey that’s awesome Amber! Are you planning on blogging about your results? I’m wondering if we should do another NW Blogger thing here…hmmm. What do you think???

Right now at Target you can get a bunch of different workout DVDs (some with Jillian and Bob – but not the 30 Day Shred) for $10 on sale with a free magazine subscription. Instead of accepting the subscription you can get a rebate of $6-7, making them only about $3-4 after the rebate. Yay!

I just came from there and I have to say…Target did a pretty poor job of marking which ones were on sale. I was hoping to snag one of the Bob ones for $10, but the only ones I saw were $11.99!! There were also a few Jillian ones, including the Shred, for $9. Maybe I just wasn’t “seeing” the right spot, but it sure was not clear to me when I was there. Maybe I missed something?

In my store, the ones that had the free subscription were on an endcap with a few other exercise items that were on sale. They are marked on the front with a sticker saying that they come with a magazine subscription and the total value for the subscription (most were $6.13). Hope this helps!

Fred Meyer has a bunch of exercise DVDs on sale this week including the 30 day shred for $7.99 which I picked up. Thanks for the recommendation!

Thank you so much for sharing this! Based on your recommendation, I bought this video from Amazon (using Swagbucks $$) and am really enjoying it (except for the 2 days after my first time….I was SO SORE!) I haven’t really exercised since my 4th baby was born over a year ago and I’m excited to get back into it. Thank you again for sharing.
