March 2011

Tomorrow only between 3 and 8pm at QFC, you can pick up a free snack size bag of Frito Lay chips with all-natural ingredients. I am told should be happening at Fred Meyer as well (you might want to phone your store ahead of time for details). There is a limit of one bag per customer, and no coupons required.

This was announced in a recent SmartSource insert. Sometimes it’s good to pay attention to those inserts, you might just find little goodies like this!

Thanks, Queen Bee Coupons!

Today Frugal Living NW shared this post about the Kellogg’s rebate. In it, a reader inquired about the Kellogg’s rebate and was told it was for registered AARP members only. I shared this with my Facebook pals and I know it created quite a stir. I want to let you know that I’ve been chatting with several bloggers about this issue.

The good news is this: Frugal Living NW just shared this second update where it was confirmed ANYONE could partake in this rebate.

If you’re just joining me, this rebate pairs with this week’s HOT cereal sale at Albertsons (in fact so much so I did my own trip today).

Given the contradictory news, there may be some risk involved in doing this deal. So I thought I’d present you with a few ideas.

1) Submit it anyway. I just bought my cereal, so this might be the route I go. In doing this, I will assume a risk of not getting my $10 back (though I’m pretty confident I’ll see that card in my mail.) Nowhere on the form does it state AARP requirements (had it, I wouldn’t have shared it).

2) Submit it as an AARP member. If you’re already an AARP member, this should not impact you in anyway – go ahead and submit. Another option may be to encourage friends and family members who are AARP members to get in on this deal, or become one yourself. You can join online for $16/year. If you were planning on doing this rebate 5 times over, it might be worth the cost. I don’t see anywhere on the form where you are required to be a certain age to join, though at least one commentor at Frugal Living NW suggested otherwise.

3) Do a different deal. While this deal may still not be as hot as initially posted, you could still work a pretty fabulous deal with doubles starting Sunday! Here is one idea I came up with:

Buy (6) boxes of Rice Krispies, Crispix, Corn Flakes $1.67 each
Use (3) $1/2 printable coupons (some may no longer be available; registration required)
Use (3) Double coupons
Bottom line: $4.02 for 6 boxes PLUS receive (2) coupons for free gallons of milk ($3.99 each)

Finally, I encourage you to check out what other bloggers are saying about this including Frugal Living NW’s initial post, her updated post, and This Beautiful Frugal Life.

I apologize for the confusion caused and hope that this post will help you in making any adjustments, if necessary.

I have had 10 winners randomly selected from the Eversave contest that I kicked off this week. They are:

#1 – Kimberly M.:

Awesome! We go to Subway almost every week!

#2 – Melinda:

I like the family activity type stuff like movie tickets, museums, and such!

#3 – Julie (buildsewreap)

I agree with Kelly – I like the idea of things that are already pretty cheap but then get cheaper. Another one, a definite treat but relatively inexpensive already would be for an Olympus Spa day pass which is usually $35 to use their hot tubs and saunas. It’s already a great deal but to get it even cheaper would be wonderful. Thanks for doing this giveaway. I’ll be grabbing some Subway deals of my own just to be sure I get in on this great deal.

#4 – Heather

I would love to win!

#5 – Juli

I agree with what has already been said; deals on travel that is close to this area so you can drive there and deals on things that are already cheap like the Subway thing. I am not going to do spa deals because you still have to pay a lot of money. I want to save money on stuff I will do anyway. thanks for the chance!!

#6 – Elizabeth

entering the contest- sounds great!

#7 – Stephanie

I haven’t tried Eversave, but it sounds like another great way to save money while buying things I would normally buy anyways!

#8 – Raman

I’m all for more savings and discount deal places.

#9 – Jamie

I would love more travel deals…like hotels! Anyone out there know of any deal sites like that?

#10 – Darci

Subway is my favorite!

Congrats to the winners – I will be emailing you today with your vouchers!

On a side note, I apologize for not catching that these vouchers were good for three locations only. Had I realized that, I would have hesitated in promoting/offering this deal. I have expressed my concerns to Eversave along with your comments, and am confident they will improve their offerings for the Seattle market, so stay tuned! They have been wonderful to listen to my suggestions and seem very open to hearing from you, too. Thanks for those of you who took the time to leave suggestions in your comment entries.

I also encourage you to get on their email list to be notified of the new saves they put out.

Disclosure: Eversave graciously provided me with the 10 vouchers to give to the winners. While I was not compensated in any way to host this review, I have used my affiliate links in both posts about the deal. When you use them, you help support this site. Thank you!

If it seemed like I was MIA this morning, I was. I was shopping, of course. I had a pretty fabulous trip this morning at Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Albertsons. Check it out:

At Albertsons, we spent $12.67 for 10 boxes of cereal, and a bag of M&Ms (thanks to the readers who told me that there were FREE M&M peelies on the Rice Krispie boxes). I will submit for the $10 rebate AND I got 3 coupons for $3.99 gallons of milk! I’m thinking of redeeming these at Fred Meyer, where the organic milk is priced at $4.99 right now (I’d just pay $1 per gallon.) Yes, I did decide to not wait for the doublers. I am unsure if I’ll be able to hit the store later this week. The beauty of my Albertsons shopping trip? ONE transaction, baby!

At Rite Aid, I paid $5.91 (including tax) for 4 packs of Stayfree pads (the B1G1 coupons expire today 3/31) and 8 packs of the Trident Vitality gum (those were all free). I earned $2.99 in UP Rewards, meaning those 12 items cost me just $0.24 each including tax!

I hesitate to share my Walgreens trip because it was a little too crazy. I paid just $1 out of pocket tax included for: 4 bottles of Gain, 2 Skintimate Shave Creams and 2 Total toothpaste. I was surprised by this super low total as I did not use ANY Register Rewards to drive my cost down. Turns out the Total I picked up was on CLEARANCE for $0.74 – I thought I was buying the Register Reward ones. I offered to let the cashier to redo the transaction if she needed to undo the overage, but she declined. So heads-up, Colgate Total may be on clearance at your store for $0.74. I received a $2 Register Reward for this transaction, too, meaning I just made $1 on all those items (tax included!). Don’t forget that today only you can use a 15% Friends & Family discount - that’s how I was able to get my total super low.

Grand total: $19.58 spent out of pocket
Rebates: $10
UP Rewards: $2.99
Register Rewards: $2
PLUS, $11.97 in free milk!!

Bottom line: a profit of $7.38!!

Total shelf value: $85.06, not including the milk

Yes, this was definitely one of my best coupon trips EVER. Are you having fun this week, too?

To get in on some of these deals, see my Albertsons, Rite Aid, and Walgreens pages.

Happy shopping!

Geesh! How many Walgreens posts can I write in a couple days?

Well…at least one more. Tomorrow only, there is a Friends & Family Discount coupon you can use. With the coupon you will save 15% on any non-prescription items or 20% on any Walgreens-brand items.

You can use this on top of any other coupons and Register Rewards deal, too! (Think the travel size items deal, the Nescafe deal, the diaper deal, or all the other great deals happening.) Just as a heads-up, you will need to check out at either the photo or cosmetics counter. Don’t forget!

I’m so excited about this, I might not be able to go to sleep tonight. And when I do, I betcha I’ll be dreaming of coupon scenarios…. (please tell me I’m not the only one that does this!)

Thanks, Steals Plus Deals!

An anonymous tipster sent me a hot Rite Aid find on the First Response Pregnancy Tests.

This week, the 2-packs are $12.99, plus you receive a $3 UP Reward, making them $9.99.

Inside the packages, my tipster found $2/1 coupons AND a mail-in-rebate form for buy one, get one free. She said that all the boxes with the rebate have a sticker on the outside of the box indicating you’ll find the form inside. Limit one rebate per household.

Possible deal scenario:

Buy (2) First Response Tests $12.99 each
Save $1/1 Video Values Wellness printable coupon (if you’ve not used yet)
Receive (2) $3/1 UP Rewards
Submit for $12.99 rebate (with form found inside)
Bottom line:  $2.99 per 2 pack (this is a great price!)

UPDATED: Print two $2/1 coupons from their website to bring this deal to just $0.99 each! (Thanks, Kymy!!)

My tipster had $2/1 coupons from previous purchases. If you did too, your total in the scenario above would have been $0.99 per 2 pack! This is a great deal on this item.

If you’re planning a trip to Rite Aid, check out my weekly deals list.

Any other tips for saving on this normally very spendy item?
