We’re getting ready to book our Disney trip for later this year, and I stumbled upon this great post at Frugal Chic Living illustrating how you could work the Albertsons Gift Card promotion this week.
Here’s how it works:
Spend $100 on retailer gift cards, and you get one of these puppies…
This is really a fantastic deal, if you think about it. If you’re already planning on say…flying Southwest this year, going to Disney, buying Starbucks gift cards for your employees, buying graduation or Father’s Day gift cards…well then, you can snag $20 of Albertsons groceries too! The only gift cards that do NOT count towards this promotion are VISA, Mastercard, American Express or Albertsons.
If you read my post from yesterday, you’ll notice how I said I wasn’t able to use many coupons for meat or produce. This is just how it goes. But, a deal like this means you could save on fresh salmon, organic vegetables, gluten free or other specialty items!
So here is what I’m wondering…if I know I’m going to spend, say, $400 or more on airfare at Southwest, can I do multiple transactions and receive a $20 Catalina for each? And then will Southwest let me redeem multiple gift cards in one transaction? Hmmmmm…… this could be interesting. I think I’m going to make a couple phone calls…
UPDATED: Just got off the phone with Southwest. They will accept up to 3 gift cards plus one credit card per transaction. So technically, I could buy (3) $100 gift cards in (3) separate transactions, and earn $60 in Albertsons Catalinas! Sweet!

That is really tempting!! We have the same promotion at Jewel (in the Albertson’s family) but I am trying to decide which gift cards would be best for the drive to Disney. I like the idea of the McDonald’s and Itunes….Hmmm….I need to go check this out.
Leslie – They have actual Disney gift cards too! Make sure you buy the gift cards and not the park passes, the park passes don’t generate the Catalina.
Angela – You don’t have to do multiple transactions, you can receive up to 5 Catalinas in one purchase. I have already done it twice. Got 2 the first time (to test it) and got 4 the next time.

When do you plan on heading to Disneyland Angela? I am so excited for you and your family, your kids are at a great age for the parks.
I think they also have Arco and Shell gift cards. We keep emergency gas gift cards so if we’re short on cash we can get to the next pay check. We also buy them before road trips so we know we have money just for gas.

I believe McCormick and Shmicks cards are also included.
There is one near Disney in the Garden Grove complex with a great happy hour-full size burgers and other items for 3.00! Kids can’t sit at the actual bar, but they can sit at the tables in there and everyone can order off the happy hour menu.
I used lots of info. from Christy’s great posts, btw, and I also really recommend The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland by Shelinger (it’s 10.00 on Amazon). Of course, I really like to plan out my trips-not something that everyone wants to do.
I’m still on the fence on this deal. I know we’d use that Home Depot card, but we’re over what I was wanting to spend this month…..have you ever done a post on when to break your budget? I’ve thought about this before when a really great stock-up deal comes along, and I’m already at what I wanted to spend.
I am seriously contemplating/pricing a Disneyland trip myself. I would LOVE any additional tips or ideas you have to help save money.
We went to Disney in February and Restaurant.com has gift cert. for the House of Blues. (In downtown Disney) So we got a $25 gift cert. for 80% off. Also there is a McDonalds across the street. So you could always get an extra gift card for breakfast there.

The $20 catalina states that it cannot be used to buy gift cards, lottery tickets, alcohol, and a few other items.
I like the way you think, but sadly, no. The Cats specifically prohibit use on gift cards.

A heads up! The $20 will not be applied to Albertsons gift cards or Visa/ Mastercard gift cards. Learned that the hard way.=}
I am contemplating a trip to Albertsons with my family of four. The nearest store is about 40 minutes from us, so I can only make one trip. This is the scenario I was thinking of, can anyone tell me if they think it would work?

$20 purchases, checked out and paid for with $20 catalinas, by my each member of the family. My kiddos have worked several Wags and Rite-Aid deals with me, so they are no stranger to the checkout line. Does the cat state that it is one coupon per day per person/per day? per household/per day?
