Review & Giveaway: Kids Bowl Free Family Summer Pass

I’ve shared the Kids Bowl Free program with you before. The idea is simple: when you sign up with Kids Bowl Free, your kiddos can play up to 2 bowling games per day, every day this summer at participating bowling alleys. For an additional one-time fee of $24.95, adults can also get in on the bowling action.

I was recently asked if I would like to review how Kids Bowl Free works. Not one to pass up a good time with the kids, I agreed.

Taking Advantage of this Offer

After spending a few minutes reading the instructions at Kids Bowl Free, and a phone call to my local bowling alley, Chalet Bowl on N 26th in Tacoma, I was up to speed. Here are the steps:

  1. Once at the site, click on the map to find participating bowling lanes near you. Select one.
  2. Register your kids for their account. Pay the $24.95 if adults wish to bowl this summer too.
  3. You will receive your free bowling games via email as coupons. You will need to print and bring these with you!
  4. Make sure to call your local bowling lane to reserve your lane and inquire about the cost of bowling shoe rentals (which isn’t included).

My Bowling Playdate

I met up with my friend Sarah and her two girls, Halle and Avery, for a fun playdate. I was pleased to learn that Chalet Bowl offers gutter bumpers for the little ones (and also those of us who normally get gutter balls and want to have a good ego boost). I was also pleased they had shoes even for the littlest bowlers.

One of the employees nicely explained to the children why we don’t go running down the bowling lanes and about the buzzer that will sound if they cross the brown line.

Our kids had lots of fun! Here I am with my son Keefe and daughter Piper. It was often a VERY long wait for that ball to roll all the way down the lane. The anticipation was unreal.

Piper seemed to take a liking to bowling. She did a few victory dances and gave a couple victory hugs.

Here is little Halle bowling. She had this great technique of squatting low, and thrusting her hands out far in front of her as she pushed the ball.

And here’s her little sister, Avery, selecting a bowling ball.

I’m not exactly sure how this happened, but Avery ended up in second place. Yes, she whooped me.

My son liked bowling, but he was equally intrigued by the treat machines that lined the bowling alley…

As we left, it began to rain. Not that sprinkling down rain, but that pounding down rain. This may be another good reason to sign up for Kids Bowl Free: Washington summer weather. We will definitely be back!

PS a special shout out to Chalet Bowl - they made us feel welcome and had great service! Tacomans, check ‘em out if you’re considering this promotion.

Enter the Contest

Kids Bowl Free is graciously giving away a family pass coupon code for one lucky Coupon Project winner (value: $24.95)! This means that your family AND kids will be able to bowl free all summer long. Please note that this does not cover any shoe rental fees.

To enter, please leave a heartfelt comment about your fondest bowling moment or a haiku about bowling with kids. (OK, if that taxes your brain, just leave some sort of comment saying why you’d like to win – that’ll do!).

Your comment serves as your official entry, so please make sure to enter an email address that you actually read and can respond to within 48 hours in case you’re the lucky winner.

This contest will run through Monday, June 13th 12pm PST. Then, a winner will be announced.

Good luck!!

Disclosure: Thanks to Kids Bowl Free for providing two family codes so this review could be made possible! All opinions and amazing bowling skills expressed are purely my own.

my oldest, Jordan, loves to bowl! it’s one of his favorite things to do. we’d love to win so that we could go bowling as a family more often this summer!

Diana June 8, 2011 at 8:39 am

My son loves to bowl. We’ve gone a couple times in the last couple months and had a blast both times! At almost 8 years old, he’s working on getting his ‘form’ down so he can bowl like a big kid.

We’d love to win so we can go more together as a family. We’ve actually contemplated buying bowling shoes for hubby and me so it saves us money in the long run!

Charlotte June 8, 2011 at 9:20 am

I’m haiku-challenged….

I’ve signed my kids up for this before, but never took advantage of it… this would be a great incentive to actually go!

I loved bowling as a kid… even bowled in a Saturday kids/youth league… would love to get my kids to have those same kinds of memories.

Thanks~

My kids love to bowl! I didn’t bowl until college and I had a great time with my friends!

Heidi staehnke June 8, 2011 at 10:58 am

This would be a great summer activity for my family of five :)

Amy Clark June 8, 2011 at 11:04 am

how much fun would this be!!!

Traci June 8, 2011 at 11:09 am

I took the girls once this summer already. We had a blast! I ended up not bowling myself, but just helped the girls. The lanes with the bumpers were full, but they had ramps. Cadence even got a strike…she’s 2!

My attempt at Haiku..?

Bowling ball rolling
falling into the gutter
must bowl more with kids

Maegen June 8, 2011 at 11:17 am

Oh, how can I resist?

Nine white pins lined up
as still as ice on Fuji
ball rolls slowly Eight

Nancy June 8, 2011 at 11:29 am

Loving the Haiku!

Bowling not today
Going to go this summer
Makes me want nachos

Really I’d like to win the pass. We signed up for the program a few weeks ago, and can’t wait to get bowling once the kids are out of school! Wii bowling is great, but just isn’t the same.

krystal June 8, 2011 at 11:40 am

I heart bowling.
My dad used to play on a bowling league when I was little.
He would take one of us 3 kids with him each week.
I always thought it was super cool.
I would sell coloring pages for 25 cents each and had a big bucket of crayons.
then I would play the arcade games all night long..lol
Its funny since my 4 year old daughter even ties Bowling to her Grandpa since we go every year for his birthday :)

My son loves bowling. He saved up his money for while his Uncle (whom he doesn’t see often enough) came in town to take him on a bowling date. I could tell how much fun he had and the memories he created by looking at the pictures he took with my camera. He has been bowling since he was 2 and will be 10 next month. ;o)

Julie {buildsewreap} June 8, 2011 at 12:06 pm

I’d LOVE a family pass. I just checked and the lanes about a mile from us (and right near my husband’s office) are on the list. I’d LOVE to take my insane 3 year old bowling.

Brittany June 8, 2011 at 12:14 pm

I remember bowling as a kiddo and with the youth group at church. It would be great to make it a family event!!

Rebecca June 8, 2011 at 12:56 pm

My 4 year old is sitting next to me and saw the pictures of you guys bowling, she said “Mom! What are they doing? Those shoes are funny, I want some!” LOL! We would love to win, then I could let my 4 year old see for herself!

Becky June 8, 2011 at 1:01 pm

I would love to take my kids bowling this summer. They have never been before.

Melody June 8, 2011 at 1:27 pm

I’ve signed my kids up for the summer bowling program but we haven’t made it yet! I would love to win this so that my husband and I would be able to bowl with them!

Sandi Stout June 8, 2011 at 1:38 pm

Why Do I want to win???
I want to win because my step kids’ step dad passed away 2 weeks ago, they are taking it kind of hard and I want something to keep them busy during the summer! PLUS! Who does not love to bowl?

Khara June 8, 2011 at 2:53 pm

I’ve never taken my 6 & 4 year old girls bowling! I think this will be a lot of fun this summer! :)

Rachel Anderson June 8, 2011 at 2:58 pm

HI! We’d love to win this too! My kids have gone bowling with relatives and apparently LOVED it, but I have yet to take them personally! But, if we win, we would definitely go bowling lots and lots this summer!

Tasha June 8, 2011 at 3:05 pm

We always take my son bowling for his birthday which is at the end of June. With my husband unemployed I didn’t think we would make it this year but with Kids Bowl Free we will be able to go.

Stephanie June 8, 2011 at 3:06 pm

We love to bowl and I think this is finally the summer that we can enjoy this pass! My 3 year old doesn’t nap anymore so we have more time and all four of my kids will enjoy it!

Jana June 8, 2011 at 4:12 pm

I would love to take my kids, they’ve never been before and my son would love it!

stephanie June 8, 2011 at 4:28 pm

My 2 yo son loves “bowling” and gets his pins out every day and lines them up in a straight line and then rolls his ball to knock them over. He frequently asks me “mom will you bowl with me?”

Kassi June 8, 2011 at 6:09 pm

omg bowling is awesome!!! My oldest is 12 and wants nothing to do that involves anything active so perfect outing for him and do love to actually have him want to do something with me..haha…i signed the boys up for the free kids bown at kenmore lanes by us…getting passes for adult too would be so cool!

Thanks!

Nicole June 8, 2011 at 9:15 pm

I would love to win! I’m working on planning some summer activities, so this would be perfect! I sat here for 20 mins trying to come up with a haiku but I’m not that talented!

Heather June 8, 2011 at 9:53 pm

My son loves to bowl and enjoys his summer vacations with extra time bowling. This is time when his Grandparents love to spend time with him.

The Farmer Family are big bowlers and love to spend family time at the alley throwing the ball down the lane and this year his younger sister gets to join in!

Colleen June 9, 2011 at 6:18 am

Our family would love to win this! We have taken the kids bowling once, and the kids loved it. We haven’t made it back due to lack of cash flow. Their heads would explode with excitement if we could go whenever we wanted to. :)

Holly June 9, 2011 at 8:11 am

Our son has been 2x with friends and really had a good time. He is not a “sports” kid so it is fun to see him enjoy something more active than video games. He wants to go with his parents and we want to take him it just seems like there are always other financial priorities. So, we would love to get a free pass.

Cathy June 9, 2011 at 10:32 am

Summer Heat Is Here,
But What To Do With The Kids?
Kids Bowl Free, Hooray!

Erica Rosado June 9, 2011 at 11:29 am

This would be awesome…my boys looove sports and so do weeee!!! My 4 year old is a pro on our Wii…. lol!!!

Somaly June 9, 2011 at 2:17 pm

I am unable to do the haiku =( Not very creative.

I would love to win this gift of being able to take my family and I bowling. We never know the weather here in Tacoma and bowling would be great when it isn’t the best outside. Plus, my daughter is 2 1/2 years now and it’s about time that she starts to learn how to bowl. I enjoy bowling and I want my daughter to love it to.

Chandra June 9, 2011 at 6:42 pm

I stink at bowling
Hope my kids will be better
Fun times either way :)

Thanks Ang!

Traci June 9, 2011 at 9:28 pm

One of my fondest bowling moments was when my daughter who was 1 at the time made a run down the lane. Soon as I saw where she was headed I was right behind her. I didn’t realize how slippery it was past the line and we both were on our bottoms before I knew it. Luckily we were able to laugh about it and we didn’t get hurt, although mommy had a longer way to fall. I am laughing now just thinking about it.

Lydia June 9, 2011 at 10:59 pm

My daughter loves to bowl! I was laid off from work and decided to spend as much time with my daughter this summer before returning to work. This is a great way to pass the time with her and it’s cost effective too! Looking forward to great memories of summer 2011!!

shannon foreman June 10, 2011 at 8:32 am

My children figured out how to use most of our intractive games without getting off thier bumms.
I would love the opportunity to show my 4 children that you bowl standing up and not from the couch. And show them that phisical activity doesn’t hurt ( or have to lame!! GARY )

Eryn June 10, 2011 at 8:18 pm

When I was growing up I remember that my dad could play just about ANY game really well and would always beat me; the only game he COULDN’T win? Bowling! He was the champion of 60 and under and always joked that he wished he could switch his bowling and golf scores. I remember bowling to be such a fun time with my family because we’d all laugh so hard!
When my son turned 2 last year, we decided it was time to take him bowling and he just loves it! He always asks to go bowling and I know it will be special family time that he’ll look back on fondly! :)

Heather Grocke-Saunders June 11, 2011 at 5:31 am

I would love to take my family bowling. I have such great memories as a child learning how to bowl with my father. He never got the chance to meet any of my 8 children as he passed away when I was 15. I would love to take them bowling and create many special memories with them that would last a lifetime.

Sonya Tucker June 11, 2011 at 9:49 am

My family loves bowling. My father was actually on a bowling league, so I spent a lot of time hanging out in the bowling alley watching the dads and playing with the kids. We even got to travel to Montreal for a tournament. Fun, family times!
