Yes, I was hacked. And yes, I survived.

At about 8:30 this morning, I got a call from my pal Jen. She said, “I hate to trouble you, but your site has been hacked…”

Turns out, I wasn’t the only one that had been hacked. In fact, my host had been hacked! Here is part of the message that explains a little bit about what happened:

Dear Customer,

At around 4am EST, our system administration team identified a website defacement attack affecting a large number of customers. We are still investigating, but it appears that files named index.php have been defaced.

This impacted many sites. Queen Bee Coupons and Coupon Connections were also impacted today. We shared some tweets and chats to keep our spirits up (thanks, ladies!).

What I want you to know

I don’t want to dwell on the negative here. Instead, I want to focus on the positive things.

First off, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who offered a kind word of support or prayer for me today. It was so wonderful knowing so many of you cared! Thank you! This extends to my blogging community. Those that offered a virtual shoulder, hug, or some timely support! Particular thanks to Sharon at Good, True, and Beautiful for making sense of what needed to be fixed exactly and then fixing it.

Second, you should know that your computers are safe. It would seem the virus had something to do with files impacting my home page. So please know that the pages and links are completely safe for you to browse and click on here. This is also tremendously good news for me as I was up until 1 am last night working on my October series and not a single post was lost (which I am sooo excited to announce – stay tuned!).

If you’re a technie and my Mickey Mouse explanation just doesn’t suffice for your super geeky brain, you can learn more about what happened at InMotion Hosting, Savvy Blogging, and I Love Free Software.

Now….back to deals, coupons, and fun times!!

Oh my gosh, I’ve been thinking about you ever since I saw that you were up until 1 AM writing posts. So happy that everything has worked out and no posts were lost. Hooray for Sharon!

I’m SO glad everything worked out – and I’m so sorry I wasn’t there (silly Montana/Wyoming with their lack of cell towers). Of course everything worked out, but I’m grateful that it happened so quickly (and to Sharon for her amazing help)!
