I decided to hit Fred Meyer and Albertsons today to get my pantry stocked up for the holidays (and beyond).
Here’s what the girl and I did today:
At Fred Meyer, I spent a total of $21.40 and I did the Mix & Match promotion three times over in a single transaction. A couple notes:
- I found a $1/1 Imagine Broth blinkie machine today! That would make the 32 oz cartons $0.99 each.
- I found $1/2 Krusteaz cookie tearpad coupons today! That makes the cookie boxes $0.99 each.
- The Dr. Pepper 10 is part of the Mix & Match promotion. Guess what? I finally found some on the store shelves!
- If store shelves seem empty for promotional items, check end caps! I found the Macaroni and Cheese, Blue Diamond Almond Milk, and Campbell’s Soup also on end caps. They were not marked as promotional, so heads up.
All in all, I was happy with the Fred Meyer trip. The only thing they were out of was the Swanson Broth Cartons. I’ll be back later this week.
At Albertsons, I spent a total of $17.18 and saved 67%. I ended up buying mostly canned items – 12 canned vegetables, 4 canned pineapple, 4 canned Spaghettio’s. Plus, Jell-O pudding. (My daughter is insisting I cook up her favorite flavor, butter hopscotch, after I type up this post. The best part? I earned $8 in Catalina coupons, which I plan on redeeming later this week. A couple notes:
- I have confirmed we will be getting Twice the Value coupons this weekend.
- Keep an eye on the promotional displays throughout the store for tearpad and booklet coupons.
- There is a new Holiday Coupon Booklet in the stores called “Freshly Made Holiday”
- If you shop at the Milton, WA store, they had cat food on clearance in the frozen food aisle for $0.25 each in a cart.
All told, I spent $38.58, and earned $8 towards a future trip. That’s like getting everything pictured above for $30. I’m pleased.
Reader Sarah Rocks it, too!
Today on Facebook I shared I was getting ready to make a trip and reader Sarah commented she’d “killed it at Fred Meyer and Albertsons.” Of course, I begged asked her to send over a picture. She did.
EDITED TO ADD: Sarah sent me a picture of her Albertsons trip only. I apologize for the confusion – nothing pictured or described below was from Fred Meyer.
Check it out:
Here’s how she did it (in her words):
First transaction:
8 TGI Friday’s meals @ 2/$4
Used 8 $1/1 coupons
also bought $1.50 Halloween book on clearance
Total w/ tax was around $7.50 after paying with a $2 catalina I had earned the other day
Received (2) $4 catalinas
Second transaction:
24 Jello Puddings ($0.75 each I believe) Used 8 $1.25/3 coupons (register beeped on these but it the coupons did state Jello on them and I didn’t think it was wrong to use them on pudding instead of actual Jello – cashier put them through no problem)
Total was $8 – paid with 2 catalinas from previous transaction, so total was $0!
Received 6 $1.00 catalinas
Also received a $5 rewards for reaching 5000 points!
Third transaction:
16 Pineapples @ $1 each
used 8 .50/2 coupons
Paid with previous catalinas & $5 rewards
Total was $1!
Received back 4 $1 catalinas!
Total after everything was around $5 after taking into account that I have $4 in catalinas to use next time!!
Thanks, Sarah!
(P.S. Sarah, that Jell-O coupon beeped for me too. I also used it for pudding since that is a Jell-O product and didn’t see anything wrong with that, either.)
If you want to take advantage of these deals, please see my Fred Meyer post (and this follow-up Fred Meyer post) as well as the Albertsons post. QFC is also having a sale worth considering, too.
Are you doing any shopping? I’d love for you to share your trips with me, too! Just email me at angela @ thecouponproject dot com with a photo and brief breakdown. Thanks for your consideration!

I’m glad to hear that multiple catalinas are printing out! (I’ve gotten stuck before with the buy 1 get $1 buy 2+ get $2 and bought like 10 expecting $10 and gotten $2). I’m going to go get my jell-o this evening after work and ordered a bunch of pineapple to get on Sunday with doublers!
Oh yes. I’m definitely a one-transaction type of gal too. I like to keep things simple. I did only one transaction today at Albs, and one at Fred Meyer.
Sarah did more trx than I did, which means her OOP was lower than mine.
If you look at the coupon they even used Jello pudding for the picture. I though that FM now only took 2 coupons a day from the same manufacture. So I’m thinking this may not work for all of us.
Hi there – the Jell-O was purchased at Albertsons, not Fred Meyer. Hope that helps!
AH, okay!
On Sarah’s transactions, did she mention which were from Fred Meyer and which were from Albertsons? We don’t have a Albertson’s anymore but do have a Freddies. Also I talked to my local fred meyer and they haven’t heard anything yet about changes in the coupon policy so until they do, they say use what I can. lol
There were changes, and they are on their website.
I wrote about them here:
http://thecouponproject.com/2011/10/fred-meyer-coupon-policy-changes.html
I’m thinking that Sarah’s trip pictured was all Albertsons. (Sarah, correct me if I’m wrong?)
I know that there were changes posted online but I noticed someone in front of me the other day using more then the new policy stated so I asked at customer service and they had no clue about it. They said it may not have made its way to their store yet. lol…who knows

Hi
I think your blog is great. I read what you wrote above about Albertsons is having double coupons again this coming Sunday? They just had them last Sunday too so this is exciting. I come down from Canada to shop in Bellingham because our deals on food are not as good here. Thanks for all the helpful advice!
