What is the Savings Tracker?
Before I was a blogger, I worked as an administrative assistant, supporting executive staff at a community bank. I was frequently required to create and maintain rather complicated spreadsheets. As a result, I got pretty good at – and discovered a love for – Excel.
In my role as a coupon blogger, I wanted to create a tool that folks could easily use to track their spending and savings. It seems that couponing is often about the day-to-day transactions and it’s important to step back and see the big picture. The Savings Tracker allows you to do just that:
- Set your monthly grocery budget and stick to it
- Determine how much coupons are really saving you
- Determine how much store sales are really saving you
- Get your monthly and yearly spending results at-a-glance
Whether you’re new to couponing or an old pro, this would be a good chance to get ready for the new year! The 2012 version has been virtually unchanged from 2011. I had made a number of changes from 2010 to 2011, and found that the 2011 version has worked pretty well for most of you. I made some minor tweeks and updates for 2012. If you’ve been using the tracker for 2011, you’ll find the 2012 version won’t require any re-learning.

Finally, please understand that I simply do not have the resources to make one-off alterations. Everyone’s brain works a bit different, so I’ve intentionally left the pages unprotected.

Thank you! I used your tracker last year, but did not start until July. In 6 months I saved $1633…67%! I need the visual. I did make one change to the savings rate column. I added conditional formating. If the percent saved is less than 60% the cell is filled pink. If greater than 85% the cell is filled blue. I can’t wait to see my savings in 2012!

One thing I noticed though, when I fill out Nov and Dec in the Goal column I get #### for the totals…can you help me with this?
Hi Jill….The symbols are filling the space because the cell width is not large enough…Just hover over the line in between the columns where the headings of A B C…. are. Your plus sign will turn into a skinnier plus sign with arrows pointing right and left…Just left click between the letters and drag the column width to make it larger….HTH

I used your system last year and LOVED it! Am dissapointed that this year you have decided to use Kindle Cloud Reader that doesn’t support Internet Explorer and requires me to download another program. Don’t think I should have to do this for an Excel spread sheet????

Is there a way for it to take into account sales tax? All of my savings percentages are skewed because I need to include sales tax in my totals to keep my budget tracking accurate.
