You’ve been asking for it…and now it’s here! Please head to the Savings Tracker page to grab your preferred FREE version of the 2012 Savings Tracker!
What is the Savings Tracker?
Before I was a blogger, I worked as an administrative assistant, supporting executive staff at a community bank. I was frequently required to create and maintain rather complicated spreadsheets. As a result, I got pretty good at – and discovered a love for – Excel.
In my role as a coupon blogger, I wanted to create a tool that folks could easily use to track their spending and savings. It seems that couponing is often about the day-to-day transactions and it’s important to step back and see the big picture. The Savings Tracker allows you to do just that:
- Set your monthly grocery budget and stick to it
- Determine how much coupons are really saving you
- Determine how much store sales are really saving you
- Get your monthly and yearly spending results at-a-glance
Whether you’re new to couponing or an old pro, this would be a good chance to get ready for the new year! The 2012 version has been virtually unchanged from 2011. I had made a number of changes from 2010 to 2011, and found that the 2011 version has worked pretty well for most of you. I made some minor tweeks and updates for 2012. If you’ve been using the tracker for 2011, you’ll find the 2012 version won’t require any re-learning.
Disclaimers & Caveats
As always, this spreadsheet is for personal use only. If you are a blogger or someone who wishes to share this, please do – I would love that! All I ask is that you link to this post. Please don’t make the download available on your site. If you have any question about this, please contact me at angela @ thecouponproject dot com.
Finally, please understand that I simply do not have the resources to make one-off alterations. I sometimes get emails from folks wishing me to build a particular formula or make a tweek to suit their situation, and unfortunately, I’m not able to offer such support. That being said, please know that you are 100% welcome to make any and all alterations you wish on your own personal saved copy! Everyone’s brain works a bit different, so I’ve intentionally left the pages unprotected.
If you need more help, please DO check out the resources I’ve put together on the Savings Tracker page including a manual and a recorded webcast. I’ve worked hard to ensure your success with this!
A final THANK YOU to everyone who has used this and/or shared it with a friend and helped put my site “on the map” so to speak. Warmly appreciated.
Happy saving in 2012!

Thanks so much for sharing this. I’ve been thinking about tracking this for 2012 but didn’t really have time to create the doc. Merry Christmas!
This is amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing. I just stumbled upon your website…what great work you do.
I loved working with the Tracker in 2011. It was great seeing how much I was actually saving with coupons and store specials. Thanks for sharing this tool with us.
Thank you SO MUCH!!! Starting with year three on this!!!
Thanks for doing this, I have shared your spread sheet with all my Coupon Exchange friends! I for one am going to use it this year!
Thanks , started last year and last 3 months .. So going to give it another shot at sticking to a budget..
Thank you! I used your tracker last year, but did not start until July. In 6 months I saved $1633…67%! I need the visual. I did make one change to the savings rate column. I added conditional formating. If the percent saved is less than 60% the cell is filled pink. If greater than 85% the cell is filled blue. I can’t wait to see my savings in 2012!
I’m impressed by your Ninja Excel skills! Gold star!!
Thanks!! I just started mine in November…I can’t wait to complete the whole 2012 year!
One thing I noticed though, when I fill out Nov and Dec in the Goal column I get #### for the totals…can you help me with this?
Hi Jill….The symbols are filling the space because the cell width is not large enough…Just hover over the line in between the columns where the headings of A B C…. are. Your plus sign will turn into a skinnier plus sign with arrows pointing right and left…Just left click between the letters and drag the column width to make it larger….HTH
yup she’s right!
This is great stuff! Has anyone figured out how to download and use it on a iPad?
How do I download it?
Follow the link in my post to the Kindle Cloud Reader and follow the instructions. Here it is again: https://read.amazon.com/about?openid.assoc_handle=amzn_kweb&openid.mode=logout&openid.ns=http%3A%2F%2Fspecs.openid.net%2Fauth%2F2.0&openid.return_to=https%3A%2F%2Fread.amazon.com%2Fabout&
OH DOH. This is the WRONG response!! I am so sorry. To download, you just right-click and save it. For some reason, I thought your comment was associated with another post – on Kindle ebooks I posted today. Terribly sorry for the confusion!
All I’m getting are ads, not the tracker I’m looking for…. help!
Ads? I’m confused. Are you right clicking the link and attempting to save it? I’m not sure where you might be seeing ads?
SORRY! See my comment to Michelle below. Head here:

I used your system last year and LOVED it! Am dissapointed that this year you have decided to use Kindle Cloud Reader that doesn’t support Internet Explorer and requires me to download another program. Don’t think I should have to do this for an Excel spread sheet????
Ok. I’m lost. Where is the link? I don’t see one in the post. I tried to click on the picture and it just opened it larger.
Are to use the kindle app to open it? I think I can get kindle on my ipad.
Oh my goodness. HUGE apologies. I see what the error is. I said head to the Savings Tracker page, but I didn’t link to it: http://thecouponproject.com/downloads/savings-tracker
GEESH. SO sorry. In regards to the Kindle comments, I was making those comments from the back end of my blog and I thought I was responding to a post related to Kindle downloads. EEK. So terribly sorry for the confusion. I’ll update my post!
Loved it last year and I am sure I will love it even more this year. Thanks!
Is there a way for it to take into account sales tax? All of my savings percentages are skewed because I need to include sales tax in my totals to keep my budget tracking accurate.
I guess not?
Talking to you via email now….
Move along, nothing to see here.
My partner and I stumbled over here by a different web page
