I was notified by Albertsons this week that some exciting coupon policy changes were coming. At their express request, I have been patiently waiting until now to share them with you to ensure that the necessary communication and training had occurred on their end first. So now – I get to share!
Ready for the notable changes? Here we go…
Coupons that exceed the retail value of an item will have the remaining amount applied to the balance of the transaction. In the event a transaction balance results in a “credit”, additional items WILL be added/suggested to the order to utilize the remaining value of the coupon. We will not provide any “cash back” on coupons; however we will provide full redemption value.
Simply put: Albertsons will now allow overage on your coupons!
But wait, it gets better…
Albertsons offers of Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) promotions in their weekly advertisement can be combined with Buy One, Get One Free manufacturer coupons to result in BOTH items being Free. The items in the manufacturer coupon must exactly match our weekly advertisement offers and meet the redemption criteria.
On occasion, I’ll get a question from a reader about using a BOGO coupon on a BOGO sale, so it’s nice to finally have some clarification on this for Albertsons!
They also have made it clear that you cannot use a Twice the Value coupon with another store coupon. Something I’ve been asserting for a long time now anyways:
Albertsons will accept ONE manufacturer coupon and ONE store coupon on the same qualifying item. (Twice the Value coupons are considered a store coupon.)
This change will officially go into effect tomorrow, Saturday, December 17th! You can print your own AlbertsonsCouponPolicy (pdf) to bring with you, but it does sound like all cashiers are up to speed. You should know that the above scenarios may not be the case at other stores you shop at – particularly so on overage. Please visit my coupon policy page for other stores you may shop at.
I asked Albertsons if they wanted to share anything in regards to these policy changes, and was able to obtain the following statement:
At Albertsons, we’re always looking for ways to help our customers save money, whether it’s through new, lower prices on produce or providing a coupon policy that allows our shoppers to stretch their dollar even further. We’re excited to offer some clarifications as to how coupons can be accepted at Albertsons locations in the Intermountain West Region, many of which address questions our cashiers receive everyday about Buy One Get One offers or how to redeem our popular Twice the Value coupons. We hope these changes help clarify how coupons will be accepted at all Albertsons Intermountain West locations, ultimately resulting in an easier, more efficient checkout process for our customers.
I hope to share some ideas for overage opportunities in the days to come! What do you think of these changes?
