FREE Urban Gardening Classes in Seattle (via Seattle Tilth)

This afternoon I stumbled on an awesome, FREE opportunity that I wanted to share with my apartment and condo living pals!

A series of FREE classes will be offered in August and September geared for the urban gardener. Some of the classes will be offered on a couple different nights, making it convenient for you to choose a night that works for you! Here is the schedule:

  • Container Herb Gardening. August 8 and September 12, 5:30-7pm.
  • Fall & Winter Vegetables in Containers. August 15 and August 29, 5:30 – 7pm.
  • Composting for Apartment Dwellers. August 22 or September 19, 5:30 – 7pm.
  • Container Salad Gardening. September 5, 5:30 – 7pm.

All the classes will be held at Victor Steinbrueck Park, 2001 Western Ave., Seattle, WA 98121, with the exception of the August 29th Fall & Winter Gardening class which will be held at Cascade Playground, 333 Pontius Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98109. For descriptions of the classes as well as more information, please visit Seattle Tilth.

Last spring, I had the opportunity to take an urban weed foraging class through Seattle Tilth and was highly impressed. They offer a number of opportunities to learn about gardening and urban farming including children’s summer camps and intensive organic gardening courses.

Speaking of urban gardening, make sure to check out Erica’s most recent post – she’s been growing squash, carrots, radishes and more from her apartment balcony!

Awesome! I know an apartment dweller who has a stinky bucket of muck, instead of compost. Everyone should be growing on their countertops!
