If you’ve been reading my blog for any length of time, you know I’ve got a soft spot for the Puyallup Fair (in spite of its overpriced food). Well today I learned that the Puyallup Fair is now THE largest fair in the State of Washington.
And it will be changing its name officially in 2013 to the Washington State Fair. (Source: The News Tribune)
Maybe that’s good, but for some reason, I’m sad. (I get sentimental about the strangest things.) I’m glad to hear they’ll at least be keeping the tagline “Do the Puyallup” because I love singing that “you can do it at a trot, you can do it a gallup song.”

oh…that IS sad! their theme song is the best! at least they didn’t rename it after a corporate sponsor like U.S. Cellular Field or Petco Park or Tropicana Stadium. ISH!

I am kind of mixed about it. Some people think it IS the state fair anyway, so it stands to reason that the name would reflect such. AS long as the content and excitement doesn’t change, the what difference would the name be?
I’m the same way about being sentimental about odd things. (I’m not a fan of this year’s tune that they put the song to because it was different). In Woodinville there is the Old Hollywood Schoolhouse that is about 2 blocks away fro my childhood home, when I was in elementary school they doubled the size of it to be a better event venue and I’ve never forgiven the owners for changing it.

I dislike MAJORLY! Total bummer.
That’s kind of sad to me. I’ve gone to the puyallup fair my whole life. I had a couple other tips for saving money. We did spend about $104 but we got a lot for it. We pre bought 2 ride bracelets online and the kids went on a ton of rides. We also bought a fair pack from Fred Meyer. My son had a school ticket and my daughter gets in free. I also had 6 rides for me for the ones my son couldn’t do alone. And we got a bakers dozen scones. We like to have them for breakfast. We walked an extra block and cut our parking to $5. But my best tip is the food. We brought water bottles and snacks. We’ve been buying our food outside the red gate for as long as I can remember. It may not be an earthquake burger but we get 5 onion burgers for $10. And my kids’corndogs are $2 each and they don’t know it’s not a krusty pup.
I’ve been going to this fair for at least 40 years. “They” can call it the Washington State Fair all they want – to me it will always be The Puyallup Fair!
