Safeway: General Mills Try-me-Free Rebate from 9/9 SmartSource

Did you all catch the awesome try-me-free rebate in last Sunday’s (9/9) SmartSource insert?

You can receive any/all of the following items free after rebate! You will need the original mail-in refund request form (from the 9/9 SmartSource), and the original receipt(s) with products circled. You’ll also need to write the UPC barcode number from the item(s) on the receipt (this is oh so much better than cutting them all off!).

Here are the products you can purchase. Note there is a limit of ONE per product:

  • Yoplait Greek 100 Calorie Yogurt (up to $1.50)
  • Yoplait Simplait (up to $1.05)
  • Green Giant Seasoned Steamers (up to $4.35)
  • Yoplait Greek Smoothie (up to $3.45)
  • Betty Crocker Muffin Mix (up to $4)
  • Betty Crocker Shake-n-Pour Dessert Mix (up to $4)
  • Progresso Light Soup (up to $3.10)
  • Progresso Recipe Starters Cooking Sauce (up to $2.85)
  • Apple Cinnamon Chex (up to $3.90)
  • Fiber One Nutty Clusters and Almonds Cereal (up to $5.05)
  • Mott’s Fruit Flavored Snacks (up to $4.35)
  • Fiber One Chewy Bars (up to $4.50)

The offer expires 9/22 and there is a limit of one rebate per household or address. Your rebate offer must be postmarked by 10/6. Allow up to 8 weeks to receive your check.

Also, the rebate will ONLY work if you purchase the items at one of the following stores: Safeway, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Dominick’s, or Carrs.

To help offset the cost of the products, please do check out the coupons that were put out in the 9/9 SmartSource insert – some of them are for the rebate items! General Mills ran a similar rebate offer earlier this year and I can vouch that I did in fact receive my rebate check as promised.

Planning a trip? See what’s on sale at Safeway through Tuesday (tomorrow)!

My SmartSource didn’t include a rebate form. Is there any other way to get one?

Thanks!

I don’t know if I would waste coupons on this since they will only reimburse the amount spent after coupons.

So you’d only do it if it was a money maker and not free?

Lol. That’s not what I mean at all. I just mean that you will get the item free regardless of whether you use the coupons or not. The rebate specifically says they will only reimburse the amount you spent less the coupons so I don’t think there is anyway for this to be a moneymaker. Since I would get the item free with or without coupons I would prefer to do the deal, get the items free and then use my coupons for a later purchase. However, if I’m missing something about this deal please set me straight. I did the one in February and it worked out fine although it took forever to get the rebate check.

When I do rebates I generally only get back about 2/3 of what I send in so I’m not really willing to buy a bunch of stuff in hopes I actually get reimbursed for my purchase via rebate. I rounded up coupons at Albie’s for Muffin Mix, Yogurt and Progresso Starters…I went for the sure bet and I’m done. I think the rebate thing is a cool idea, I’m waiting to see how it plays out and if they do it again I might be more inclined to give it a whirl.

If it’s of any interest/help, I did a similar rebate when it was offered back in February and I did receive my check as agreed. I realize it’s not for everyone though.

I got 2 Smartsource cpn sections last Sunday but no ‘Try Me Free ‘page. We didnt get the last one either. Maybe the smaller cities don’t get them? I heard there were tearpads of the form in store on endcaps so I will have to go out in search of.
