From Frumpy to Fabulous: Fred Meyer Makeover Recap (and video!)

Last month, three lucky readers and the two Coupon Project contributors joined me at Fred Meyer for a fun night of pampering and shopping! During this “Frumpy to Fabulous” event, each participant received a new look furnished by Fred Meyer and a makeover courtesy of Maybelline!

When I arrived, the Fred Meyer staff had already been there for several hours getting the store prepped and a few folks even drove up from corporate headquarters in Portland! They did an excellent job of making this a standout event.

Have you ever shopped Fred Meyer’s apparel section? Or maybe you have in years past, but haven’t given it much of a look in awhile? If so, let me encourage you to stop by and take a peek. You might be surprised how affordable and on-trend their apparel is! I learned that the apparel buyers attend events like New York Fashion Week and pay close attention to what looks will be hot and when.

I’d also like to thank Maybelline for not only sending an amazing makeup artist all the way from New York for our event (for real, folks!), but for giving each participant a bag of new makeup to take home, too! I think I speak for everyone when I say the most talked about product of the night was the eye tattoo. (Check it out!)

Here are some additional tips for saving on apparel at Fred Meyer:

• Always check the ad for a coupon! Many weeks you’ll find an “Extra Bonus Coupon” in the Fred Meyer ad that you can use towards apparel, accessories, and shoes. This takes a discount off your entire purchase, and on top of sales (though not usually clearance).  These coupons are usually around 10%, but I’ve seen them for as much as 25% off too.
• Use your Rewards card for making purchases. You’ll earn points for apparel purchases you make. Each quarter, these points are translated into dollars that you receive in the form of a Fred Meyer rebate! Often the rebate is accompanied with high value coupons – sometimes these apply to apparel.
• Watch for end-of-season clearance sales. We recently saw summer clothes go on clearance, and when this happens, it’s usually a % off the lowest marked price. This is a good time to stock up! (The photo below was taken last August at a local store.)
