Getting your Newspapers
A couple weeks ago, I shared the disappointing news that the News Tribune offer I’ve been mentioning for a long time now has sadly come to an end. Yesterday I got the following letter in the mail, and am hearing that some of you have received it too:
Thank you for subscribing to the multiple Sunday home delivery program. This is the deepest discounted offer we have ever been able to provide to our loyal readers and we are confident you have enjoyed the convenience of having the coupons and content delivered to your home. The cost of delivering the product has become increasingly expensive, and unfortunately we are unable to continue such a generous discount.
Your next renewal invoice will reflect the new rates outlined below. When your current subscription is up for renewal you have the option of continuing with the delivery schedule you have, noting the price per week will be $2.25. The offer will be for 3 or more Sunday only News Tribune newspapers delivered to your door each Sunday for a minimum of 26 weeks (6 months) including Monday through Saturday delivery.
The letter then went on to outline the $2.25 rate either for pay in advance or EZ Pay (deducted monthly from your account). If I were to continue the 4 papers per week that I get, I’d be looking at a whopping $39 a month now, which is more than I can stomach, and more than I can rightly recommend to you as being a good rate. I will personally be discontinuing my subscription.
Some of you have asked me if I know any more information, and I don’t. Sadly, the News Tribune failed to provide me with any sort of “heads up” or proper communication as to what’s going on, so I received this letter at the same time as you did. Until I can find another suitable subscription offer, I’ll likely be buying the Federal Way Mirror at my local store, which sells for $0.50 on Saturday. I’ve heard that many of you enjoy buying your paper at the Dollar Store and have heard that Safeway and possibly Fred Meyer stores also carry the Sunday News Tribune for $1. Even so, I would gladly pay a few cents more to have my paper delivered to my door Sunday as the savings in time, gas, and effort was worth it to me…just not $2.25 per paper worth it to me.
Finally, do remember that I’m still pleased to offer a number of multi-Sunday paper discounts in neighboring states, and this list will be continued to be expanded upon in the near future. Please do check out the Discounted Newspapers tab for pricing information.

Please go ahead and call to cancel your subscription, don’t expect it to just lapse. TNT will continue to deliver your paper and charge you until you actually cancel.
It happened to me and when I called to complain they said it was a service to their customers so they don’t have to go without their papers if they forget to pay.
Oh geez, thank you for the warning.
I did not even get a letter!?!?! My famous black bag full of 5 papers at the end of my long driveways was no where to be found. I did get a flyer in the mailbox for this deal thru TNT: 1 Sunday Only/ 13weeks at $1.50 each, promo code NTGNS. I have not checked up on it, though!
I called the News Tribune this morning because, I too, could not stomach the new prices. I decided to go with a deal where I get one Sunday issue: $20 for 13 weeks ($1.54 each week). This will at least allow me to have SOME coupons delivered. If I decide I need to get more than one copy, I guess I’ll have to run to the store.
If you call today plan on being on hold for a long time. Just a head up!
The Lacey Fred Meyer is now charging $2 a paper (for probably the past month or so). I’m not sure if it’s that way elsewhere.
I personally usually get mine at the Dollar Tree in Kent, which is closer to my house, but have gotten them for $1.00 at Walmart in Federal Way (the old store) as well.
The Fred Meyer in Tacoma on 19th and Stevens still has the papers for $1 each. I just picked up mine today and they haven’t changed.
