Zaycon Foods is coming to Washington in October and their sale is now live! They are offering 40-lb cases of boneless, skinless chicken breast for $1.69/lb, which works out to $67.60 for the case.

what is zaycon foods?

Zaycon Foods is a privately owned company that works to pass on wholesale prices to families. To deliver those low costs, Zaycon Foods sells their food to the consumer in the form of events as opposed to selling in a store. The result is quality food at substantial savings! When they launched, they were PNW-based, but they’ve since successfully expanded into the lower 48 states.

Zaycon Foods is primarily known for its awesome chicken breast sales, but they’ve also had sales for bulk salmon, bacon, ground beef, and even fruit.

One thing you should be mindful of is that Zaycon Foods sells their items in set quantities and they are large. As an example, the chicken breast is sold in 40 lb boxes. So plan on some prep time afterwards! If space and/or money is limited, you can always split with a friend. Each box contains (4) 10 lb bags, so you could easily split them up.

how to take advantage of zaycon foods’ orders

The first thing you must do is create a Zaycon Foods account. From there, you’ll be able to view upcoming events for your area, and make purchases.

Next to each event, you’ll see the time/date along with ordering instructions, like this (image is from a prior sale):

All you’ll need to do is bring your receipt and drive to the designated location on the date/time for your sale. Speaking from experience, it’s a pretty smooth operation. Just make sure to have your trunk or floor space clear and ready. They’ve loaded it up for me in the past – no need to get out of the car.

isn’t that a lot of chicken?

Well it depends on your family size and how often you like to eat chicken, I suppose! If you do cook it regularly, 40 pounds isn’t a crazy large amount.

One time, I decided to turn all the chicken into meals before popping it into the freezer. Yes, it took a few hours to do, but at the end I had lots of meals already to go and that ultimately saved me time and money in the long run. I was also able to share some of these meals with my sister, who had just had a baby. Why not make a fun day of it and get some friends together and prep meals?

If you’re looking to go that route, might I recommend the cookbook Fix, Freeze, and Feast (Amazon)? It’s full of easy, from-scratch recipes geared for freezer prep. I’ve either personally made or tried nearly all the chicken recipes and there’s nary a bad one in there.

This will be the 3rd time I’ve bought chicken from Zaycon. My husband and I were very impressed with the quality of the chicken and the price is excellent. 40 lbs is a lot but I usually split the case with a friend so we each have 20 lbs. We have a Food Saver – my husband separates out meal portions, vacuum packs them and tosses in the freezer. This time I may prep some of it before packaging & freezing – cut up into strips for fajitas and chunks for a couple of other dishes.
