Changes to Fred Meyer’s Ecoupons & Guidelines on Stacking

I noticed that Fred Meyer’s e-coupon site has changed a bit! I was excited to share this with you, but also wanted to make sure I looped in with my contacts at Fred Meyer to ensure I provided you with correct information.

fredmeyerecouponuseWhen you log into the e-coupon site with your Rewards card, you’ll now notice a message in a pink box at the bottom of many of the coupons.

In the examples above, each of these coupons reads “use up to 5 times in a single transaction.” This means that you can get the e-coupon discount more than one time in a transaction when you present your Rewards card at checkout. To be clear, once you’ve loaded the e-coupon to your card, you have ONE transaction to redeem it and get up to that maximum quantity. For instance, if I load the $2/5 Hot Pockets coupon to my card, I could use it up to five times in one transaction. If I only don’t do up to five times? Those extra times won’t be saved on the card for another trip.

What I wondered the most when I noticed this is whether the e-coupons are now considered store or manufacturer coupons and if you could stack them. Of course, I always want to make sure you’re aware of all the ways you can legitimately use coupons to save money, so I thought I’d ask. Here’s the statement from Fred Meyer:

digital manufacturer coupons (which is what these are) cannot be combined with paper manufacturer coupons for the same item. The Customer must decide which is the best offer and use that.

So, pretty straightforward. This is basically unchanged in how their e-coupons worked before; you could not stack them with another paper manufacturer coupon. You can count on me to continue to present your Fred Meyer Coupon deals according to their policies.

If you’re new to Fred Meyer, you might want to read more about how the Rewards Program works at Fred Meyer.

Thank you! You are my favorite coupon blogger, because I know I can always count on you to share “honest” deals. Well, that among several other features on you blog. :)

i’ve been using their ecoupons for quite some time. often they don’t work. in fact, they owe me an email right now regarding the motts applesauce snack packs whose ecoupon did not work. also, often times i’m not sure what’s loaded on my card and i have a paper coupon in my hand. sometimes the checker overrides the cash register and allows the paper one to be used also….

Liha if you have one that doesnt work all you have to do is go on on the website and click the help button on the ecoupon page there is a form that you can fill out and I have done this a few times and if everything is OK which they determine from the info you put on the form then they will put a general ecoupon for the amount for the next time you go shopping. Every time I have done this I havent had a problem. Also the cashiers are not suppose to override the coupons so both will work. I am a cashier at FM and we can get in trouble if we are caught doing that as it is against the law because it is double couponing.

I didn’t know they couldn’t be stacked and several of my paper coupons went through on top of the ecoupons just fine… no cashier override required. I hate to steal from them, but what do you do if the system doesn’t prevent it!?! It is hard to remember because you can stack paper and ecoupons at other stores like Safeway.

Nope. For a few years now you’ve not been able to: http://thecouponproject.com/2010/10/fred-meyer-e-coupons-paper-coupons.html
I’m surprised it’s going through for you with no override!

As far as Safeway goes, you’re not allowed to stack e-coupons issues from the manufacturer with another manufacturer coupon either. This is spelled out in their coupon policy and I’ve had discussions with Safeway corporate about it. That being said, Just4U is confusing to a LOT of folks and I have a post sitting in draft mode right now (just waiting for a Safeway representative to verify all my information is correct before publishing). So…stay tuned. ;)

Am I crazy or did another blogger (I follow many) encourage stacking? I don’t usually have enough brain power (Mommy brain) to match up deals myself so I’m wondering where I got the idea. Indeed strange that it didn’t beep on me… sorry, FM. I’ll spend more money there soon!

Looking forward to reading your article about Safeway and the Just4U program. I never know if I can use a paper coupon if I loaded a Just4U coupon.

That is easier to understand if they are all manufacturer coupons. I get so frustrated with Safeway because I can’t tell which is which on the J4U. Looking forward to your Safeway post!

It sounds like Angie is working on this but when it comes to Safeway what I learned from another blog (and it has worked so far):

IF the deal is a flat price (2 for $5 for example) then it is a Safeway deal and you can stack with manufacturers coupons.
IF the deal is $xx.xx OFF it is a Safeway deal that can be stacked with manufacturers coupons
IF the deal is SAVE $xx.xx it is an online manufacturers coupon that cannot be stacked with other manufacturer coupons.
Hope this helps.

my FM ecoupons no longer read “use up to 5 times”, all those that did have been removed from my account. I gave it a go last night to see if they still work for more than one item and it did not work…have they changed these already? Of course when I asked the cashier, she had no idea.
