7 Pro Tips for Making the Most of Disneyland During Peak Seasons

7 Pro Tips for Maximizing your Peak Season Disneyland Vacation

My friend Mike is what I’d call a true Disneyland expert! He’s been there many times and plumbed the park for all kinds of fun experiences. He’s written a number of posts for the site over the past month (see my Disney page for all of them), and he’s back at it today with a new post for you! So, Disney fans, here’s Mike:

When it comes to Disneyland, one age old adage still rings true. When you gotta go; you gotta go. Though I have previously written about the best times of year to visit Disneyland, for many families, school vacation is the driving force for making their plans. Many are restricted to summer vacation, spring break and possibly the winter holiday season. Even smaller vacation times like Thanksgiving weekend, Columbus Day and Labor Day face similar scenarios.

On the plus side, those times of years have many perks. The parks will be open early and stay open late. Most attractions will be up and running so you won’t have to miss out on the favorites. Additionally, there can be additional seasonal offerings or extra showings of parades and fireworks. So when kids are out of school, Disneyland is putting its best foot forward.

Eating Dole Whip at Disneyland

But these times of years do have some drawbacks. The crowds can be startling.  According to some studies done by statisticians at the “Unofficial Guide for Disneyland” (Amazon) on certain days like 4th of July, New Years Eve and Easter, the parks are at their very busiest. How busy? If the scale was 1 – 10, those days would break the scale and hit an 11 (or 12). All of which can cause some massive lines for all attractions, and make headliners (Space Mountain, Indiana Jones) have multiple hour wait times. With those massive amounts of people, hotel and resorts will be at the highest price points as well. Read More…

Cool Stuff I found at Daiso Today

Daiso Storefront

I decided to pop by my local Daiso Store in Federal Way today. I was in the area, it’d been awhile – so why not? This store opened in the summer, and I’ve been back a few times because it’s pretty much awesome.

If you’ve never been, here’s what you should know: most things in the store are priced at $1.50! Including most of the items I’m going to share with you on my post today.

Witches Hats at Daiso

I found a couple racks of Halloween costumes, décor, and props near the front of the store.  Most of the small items were $1.50. Larger costumes were $8.00. Glow Sticks at Daiso

My daughter has been doing cross country this year, and by the time they’re done with their practices, it’s dark out! While she runs with a headlamp and reflection vest, I thought it would be a fun surprise to pick up a 6-pack of these glow bracelets for her to wear at practice. Boxes at Daiso

Small boxes you could use for small things. I bet my kids would want to paint it. String for $1.50 at Daiso

I think this is a pretty good deal – $1.50 for 12-packs of embroidery thread! Remember using this stuff to make friendship bracelets when you were a kid? Art Paper at Daiso

Got an artist on your hands? Daiso’s got all kinds of drawing paper, including larger-sized sketch pads, all for $1.50.  Gift Wrap at Daiso

Gift wrap for $1.50 at Daiso. I was actually pretty excited to see they sell some small rolls of the clear cellophane-type wrap. My kids recently participated in their schools’ Reflections Art contest, and one of the requirements is that the art is protected by some form of art sleeve. A friend suggested using this kind of wrap instead, as I was really struggling to find the art sleeves! I bet this cellophane wrap could be used for a number of different arts and crafts projects.  Gift Bags at Daiso

Daiso would be a good place to stock up on gift bags! While I didn’t picture it, I did see they have a nice selection of greeting cards for $1 each, too.Whiteboard at Daiso

My kids love writing on whiteboards (who knows why?). They have a variety of sizes for $1.50.  SD Memory Card Case

I bought this SD Memory Card case at Daiso over the summer and it’s actually completely useful. It is a very neat and tidy way to store my memory cards so they don’t get lost. For $1.50, I totally recommend it! Little Bowls at Daiso

A zillion tiny ramekins and bowls. Salad on the Go at Daiso

BPA free Salad on the Go container, complete with form and dressing cup. Boom. Mini Spoons at Daiso

How cute are these mini spoons? Maybe they’d be perfect for that tea party your kid is going to host with their teddy bears and dolls. Cookie Cutters at Daiso

Cookie cutters. Bags of Every sort at Daiso

Storage bags of every conceivable shape and size. I’m going to remember this, because there are times when I could use something like this and they are often hard to find or sold in huge quantities online. Colandars at Daiso

Colanders, baskets, and tubs. Long Driving Gloves at Daiso

These long “Driving Gloves” have got to be my favorite item I spotted today at Daiso. They were so unexpected, right next to the sunshades! I can imagine the look on my husband’s face if I pulled them out to go on a Sunday drive. I also think they might work for dress up.Sunshades

Sunshades for your car for just $1.50?! AWESOME. By the way, look closely in this photo: I think I spotted the short driving gloves! Doggie Poo Bags

Doggie poo bags. This is another really good deal in my book. Doggie Diapers at Daiso

Try saying “Doggie Diapers at Daiso” five times fast. I double doggie dare ya. Pop Out Hampers at Daiso

Pop out laundry hampers for $1.50. Milkita

I’m a big fan of Milkita. The strawberry flavor is my favorite and I also like vanilla.

Have you been to Daiso recently (or ever)? I’d love to know what else you’ve found to be interesting and/or a good deal. Please share away in the comments below! Head to Daiso to find a store location near you.

Macy’s: Kids’ Puffer Jackets $19.99 (reg. $80), PLUS they’ll donate one too!

Boy's Puffer Jacket

Oh! I’m so excited to share this Macy’s deal with you this morning because it’s truly a win-win. First, as part of their birthday pop-up sale, they are offering kids’ puffer jackets for just $19.99 – these are regularly as much as $80 each! I’ve shared this deal in prior years here, and have heard that the quality of these jackets is really good.

Even better, for every jacket you purchase, Macy’s will donate one to Clothes4Souls, a non-profit that seeks to fight poverty through distributing clothing. How awesome is this?!

There are a number of sizes and styles under this sale, for both girls and boys. Head to Macy’s to shop the entire selection.
