Stuff I didn’t know I needed… until I went to Costco (May ’16 edition)

Stuff I didn't know I needed...until I went to Costco

Every month, I pay a visit to my Costco store so I can see what kinds of deals I can find to highlight with you. And to be quite frank, just to see what there is to see. I’ve been at this for over a couple years now, and I’m amazed at how good Costco is of always having something new, fun, shiny, and different.

There is always stuff I didn’t know I needed… until I went to Costco.

Here’s what I found today:

Youth Goggles at Costco

This 3-pack of Speedo Goggles is a great deal at $14.99. That works out to $5 per pair. Is it just me, or are your kids forever losing goggles?! Carry-on Case at Costco

This carry-on weighs 3.9 pounds and costs $64.99. Yes, I did pick it up. Daypack at Costco

Backpacks for $19.99, in case you’re thinking of getting your kids ready for back to school very, very early this year.Lunchbags at Costco

Expandable lunch pack for $13.99. Sold right next to the backpacks. Soup Bowls at Costco

These ceramic soup bowls called to me. There were 6 of them for $6.97 – that works out to just $1.16 per bowl! I justified the purchase by telling myself I was planning on writing a soup recipe for the blog this week and I needed some pretty bowls to photograph them in. (You’ll have to sit tight for the soup recipe.)Growler at Costco Read More…

Late May Garden Update: Arugula EVERYWHERE and My Dying Angelica

Bee on Angelica

I have some more work to do in the garden, but this has proven to be a busy month. So, I’ve been more passive observer than active gardener these days.

I do have some interesting developments I’d thought I’d share!

A Ton of Arugula

So last year, I planted some arugula, but then never removed it at the end of the season. It went to seed and guess what…

Volunteer Arugula in Raspberries

I’ve now got arugula all over the garden. It’s seriously in every raised bed, and in some cases, growing in between the rocks on the ground! Looks like we’ll be eating salad for awhile. Read More…

Spirit 105.3 e-Auction *last couple days!*: Save on Family Fun!

Spirit 105.3 Online AUction

A couple weeks ago, I shared how Spirit 105.3 is running an e-auction to raise funds for CRISTA Ministries, which is an umbrella organization that supports a number of ministries. I wanted to remind you of this, as well as inform you that this is the last week of the e-auction – so I hope you’ll check it out!

They recently reached out to me, to see if I’d be able to share a little bit more about how this online auction works with you. This e-auction has run for four weeks during the month of May (hence, this is the last week!). Each week, they have offered different items you can bid on.

As I shared in my post from a couple weeks ago, I found some incredible items up for bid, and many with very low bids! I urge you to check it out as I believe you might be able to save on something really special for your family.

A few rules about how it works:

  • The auction will run close on Thursday, May 26th.
  • Upon closing, you’ll have until 11:59pm PST that day to submit payment using a valid credit or debit card.
  • If you have any questions about the auction, you can call 866-311-9806. Additional information can be found at the FAQ page.

So, what kinds of items will you find in the auction? Well, lots of stuff! But I wanted to call out a couple items from this week’s auction that are standing out to me for this final week:

Bellevue Zip Tours

Bellevue Zip Tours
Current bid: $15
Retail value: $102
Closes: 5/26

INfused Private Party Infused Gourmet Company – Private Tasting Party for 5 (Bothell)
Current bid: $0
Retail value: $80
Closes: 5/26pump

Pump it Up (6 Open Jump Sessions)
Current bid: $0
Starting bid: $13
Retail value: $42
Closes: 5/26

As you can see, it’s quite possible you’d stand to help support CRISTA Ministries and walk away with an amazing deal! Talk about a win-win, right?

Interested in bidding on these items? Want to see what else is in the auction? Head on over to Spirit 105.3. But remember – you only have a couple days left to bid!

Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire Discount: $7/Child or $10.50/Adult

Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire

Huzzah! Don your most noble garb and prepare for a day of enlightenment with this deal from Goldstar for the Washington Midsummer Renaissance Faire:

Both options also include a $3 service fee. You’ll need to purchase your voucher by August 5 or while supplies last. You’ll receive an e-ticket that will be emailed to you.

The Renaissance Faire runs on Saturdays and Sundays from August 6-21 at the Kelley Farm in Bonney Lake, WA – you can check out their website for more details and information as well as a full list of performers. Note that children under 5 are free, and parking is also free.

Where I’m from (Minnesota), the Renaissance Festival is kind of a big deal…I’m not sure if that’s the case for you, but I always have a ton of fun at our Renaissance Festival just checking out the sights, eating delicious food, and enjoying some fun entertainment (no special garb required!).

Reader Maija left a great comment about the Renaissance Faire the last time we posted a similar deal:

As a guest of the event, you can expect to see pirates, Vikings, gypsies, English royalty, knights (in shining and not-so-much armor), trolls, faeries, someone on stilts, and whatever else (mythical or historical) all in one fantastic, yet strange, village.

There’s face painting, henna tattoos, costume rentals, jewelry, wandering minstrels, performance stages, jousting, juggling, candles, incense, old fashioned candy, drinks (there’s usually a 21+ area roped off, but also plenty non-alcoholic), and certainly food. It is a great place to learn about history, lost arts, and mystical crafts (there’s even a tarot reader on the merchant list). Kids of all ages will have a great time with an open mind. When the day is done Ben & Jerry’s ice cream will be there too.

Pretty much you walk around enjoying the scenes, participate in a few shows, try not to get *wink wink* kidnapped by pirates, have the best pickle you’ll ever taste from The Pickle Wench, and buy a couple trinkets for the kids. Maybe not good CLEAN fun, but certainly a great time! – Maija

Interested? Head to Goldstar to check it out for yourself!
