You can fish for free (without a fishing license) in public bodies of water during National Fishing and Boating Week. This is the case for most states in the US, including Washington!
For 2017, our fee-free dates are June 10th & June 11th, 2017. Apparently, it’s always the first weekend after the first Monday in June.
While I’m not yet seeing the specifics on the 2017 event, I can tell you the following was the case for 2016:
- Vehicle Access Passes are also not required.
- You will still need a Discover Pass if you’re parking on State Park lands.
- All other fishing regulations apply. (Brush up at the WDFW website if you need to, including a regulations pamphlet you can download.)
For additional details, please see Takemefishing.org. I’d also bookmark this Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife page which has details about the 2016 weekend and may update with 2017 information as we get closer.
