Fred Meyer Back to School Shopping Tips

Fred Meyer Back to School Shopping Tips

Before I launch into the current deals, I’d like to provide you with some tips for shopping for school supplies at Fred Meyer:

  • No need to rush. You’ll see a bunch of advertised deals each week in the ad. However, as you’ll see below – many of the top deals and “Price Blaster” items are good for at least a month.
  • Make use of coupons. Make sure to keep your eyes out for both store and manufacturer’s coupons. Keep an eye at for e-coupons you can load to your Rewards card, too.
  • Stock up! Many of these items are at my school supply stock-up prices (or are very nearly so). I’ve never had an issue with stock on these items at Fred Meyer.
  • Watch for the Friends & Family Discount. Traditionally, Fred Meyer has put out a “Friends & Family” coupon in mid August. This coupon saves you an additional 10-15% on many items in the store and the exclusions are few. In the past, it has worked on Price Blaster items and school supplies. Heads up. (Note: this has come and gone.)
  • Watch for Clothes, Shoes, etc. As Fred Meyer is more than just an office store, you’ll find lots of stuff for back to school – backpacks, clothing, lunch items, organizers, shoes, and more. Expect to find advertised sales on all of these items.

Amazon Back to School Shopping Tips

amazon school supplies

Before I launch into the current deals, I’d like to provide you with some tips for shopping for school supplies at Amazon:

  • No need to rush. It’s true that Amazon’s prices can change quickly and without notice, but we’ll see deals pop up from now until school starts.
  • Watch for Clothes, Shoes, etc. Obviously Amazon has lots of different items available, so check their selection of clothing, shoes, household goods, snacks, etc. as well as school supplies.
  • Check school supply lists. Teachers now have the option of posting their school lists on Amazon; check to see if your teacher has posted his/her list here.
  • Deals can go quickly. Some of the hottest deals can come and go quickly, especially anything under $1 with free shipping with Prime. We’ll try to let you know about these deals as they come up throughout the week.
  • Try Prime. Since these items are so low-priced and you might not want to wait until your order meets the free shipping threshold, you may be interested in signing up for a Prime membership (you can get a free 30-day trial to check it out).
  • Not a one-stop shop. While you can get everything you want from Amazon, you’ll pay a lot more total than you would if you were to visit, say, Fred Meyer or Target. I’m using Amazon to get hot deals as they pop up and to buy organizational items, household goods, etc.

Best Deals at Target – No Coupons Needed {Only Your Smartphone!}

Jump to the deals!

I (Laura) live in the land of Target, and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to run into Target for “just one thing” here or there. Since I am the queen of efficiency, I hate to let a savings opportunity go to waste, but I usually haven’t clipped any coupons before heading to Target since it’s not in my normal routine.

I’ve often wondered what the best Target deals are that I can get without using coupons (just my smartphone), but I couldn’t find a list of only these deals anywhere, so…why not start my own? I ran the idea by Angela and she said “go for it,” so…here we go!

The deals listed here are either “good enough” prices on their own without using coupons, or they use a combination of Target Cartwheel, Target mobile coupons, or cash back apps like Ibotta or SavingStar to help you save. No scissors required, ya’ll.

Tips for Shopping at Target Without Coupons

A couple things to keep in mind:

  • Target REDcard. If you’re not already using a REDcard when shopping at Target, why not? You’ll automatically save an extra 5% on everything in the store, plus you’ll get FREE shipping on orders placed at It’s easy to sign up, and credit and debit options are available.
  • Cartwheel. Before using this list, you’ll want to download the Cartwheel app to your smartphone. Cartwheel savings can be stacked with sale prices and any cash back offers, plus as you’re shopping, you can scan the bar codes of items you’re interested in to see if any current Cartwheel offers apply to them.
  • Ibotta. Ibotta is the most commonly used cash back app. After making your purchases, you’ll need to log in to the app and select the applicable offers, then take pictures of your receipt and submit it to Ibotta. Within 24-48 hours they’ll add the credit to your Ibotta account which you can cash out after reaching a minimum threshold. Another cashback app that is handy to already have downloaded is Checkout 51.
  • SavingStar. This list doesn’t include printable or insert coupons, but it does include SavingStar offers as they can be added via your smartphone. Again, you’ll need to take pictures of your receipt and submit them to SavingStar to see the credit in your account.
