If you are an Amazon Prime member, then you probably know you can be taking advantage of many FREE videos and shows through Amazon Instant Video.
I thought I’d share a few movies I’ve recently watched on Amazon Instant Video in case you’re looking for something to watch tonight or the ever-approaching weekend. The good news? All of these are currently FREE to watch for Amazon Prime members! Warning: I have a pretty random taste in movies and shows.
The Hunger Games

Yes! You can now watch The Hunger Games for FREE if you are an Amazon Prime member. OK so I haven’t watched this recently, but I have watched it. And I thought it was worth mentioning since it’s a newly-released option!
If you’re not a Prime member? The good news is you can read The Coupon Games - for FREE!
Mystery Science Theater 3000: Pod People

Confession: I actually decided to make the leap to becoming an Amazon Prime member when I realized there was a rather extensive collection of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes to watch from! This is one of my most favorite series ever, and these are particularly fun to watch late at night with a group of friends. Very few things make me laugh as hard as Mystery Science Theater. Fun fact about me: I once had a pet beta fish I named Trumpy, after the alien creature from Pod People.
The Queen of Versailles

I referenced this documentary in my post yesterday about moochers. An interesting look at what happens when the recession impacts a billionaire. I have two favorite scenes: 1) Mrs. Siegel (the “Queen”) has her chauffeur take her to McDonalds (I don’t know why, but this struck me as funny) and 2) when Mrs. Siegel has to rent a car for the first time and asks for the name of her driver. The look on the customer service agent’s face is pretty priceless.
In all seriousness, the Queen of Versailles is a rather intimate look at what it’s like to be excessively rich – and then what happens when things belly up.
Downton Abbey

If you’ve not seen what all the fuss is over, I recommend you check it out. You can watch all of Downton Season 1 and Season 2. Season 3 will also be available for Prime members FREE starting soon.
I would say if you’re starting out? Give it two solid episodes. I know, I know, there are a lot of characters. And they talk funny. But stuff starts happening pretty quickly if you can push through.
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has got to be one of the dumbest movies I’ve seen in a long time. By the end, I wasn’t sure if I even liked either of the main characters (so in that regard, maybe they were suited for each other).
Why do I share this with you then? Because if you are looking for a movie where no thinking is involved, this would be an excellent choice. Such as a movie to pop on right before falling asleep or to have on as background noise. I was really surprised it got an average 4-star rating by reviewers. Really, people?!
Man on Wire

So this was news to me. In the 1970′s, a young Frenchman actually rigged a high wire between the Twin Towers in New York City. Of course, his activity did not have prior approval and it was quite the operation to train for the event and then sneak the equipment up both towers and pull this feat off. Man on Wire retells this incredible story.
I don’t consider myself one to be fearful of heights, but there were definitely a few moments that made my toes curl. I definitely recommend this documentary if you’re looking for a stunning, true story. Probably not a good choice if you ARE really afraid of heights.
It’s worth mentioning that there is one rather racy short scene with some nudity, so probably not a good one to watch with kidlets around.
So…what have you found to watch for free on Amazon Instant Video lately? I’d love to hear about it. I’m always looking to expand my watchlist. Incidentally, let me know if you dig this post. Maybe I’ll consider sharing some other interesting movies & shows I find in the future too!
