Back to School: FM

I am sooooo excited about the Fred Meyer Friends and Family coupon that will be good starting tomorrow, Friday, August 12 - Monday, August 15. So of course, I spent well over an hour at my Fred Meyer store last night scouting out some ideas for you, so you’ll be prepared to snag the best deals! As a reminder, here’s what the Friends and Family coupon can be used on:
Fred Meyer Friends and Family Coupon Shopping Pass
I was given the coupon early to review and I can tell you that yes, you CAN use it on clearance and sale items and yes, you CAN combine it with other coupons. According to the fine print, the discount will be applied after all other coupons and discounts. This is also a great chance to save on hard-to-save-on-otherwise brands. For instance, the 10% Home Electronics coupon could save you on the Xbox Kinnect!
You might have also received your Rewards coupons this week, too. If so – you now have a perfect storm of coupon/saving awesomeness. OH! And don’t forget to enter for your chance to win one of $50 Fred Meyer Gift Cards! Contest ends tomorrow, Friday the 12th at 5pm PST.
This post is intended to give you some great ideas only. You may very well find other hot ideas in your store, too!

My son is starting Kindergarten this fall, so getting him ready has very much been on my mind. So of course, I jumped at the chance to team with Fred Meyer to do a back-to-school promotion!

I knew that Fred Meyer would be a great one-stop-shop for everything I needed for him: they have groceries, but also great values in home, office, and apparel. I was given a $100 gift card for my trip. I wanted to demonstrate that it’s entirely possible to get your kids ready for back-to-school by just shopping at Fred Meyer. This is great for those who are short on time, and may not want to shop at multiple stores.

What I love about Fred Meyer? They have lots of great low prices, plus they offer many in-ad and store coupons that can be used on everything from apparel to furniture. Fred Meyer truly does care about helping their customers getting the best deal possible.

Ready to see what I did with my $100?

I ended up with:

  • 2 pairs of jeans
  • 3 packs of underwear (save an extra 50% clearance!)
  • 3 shirts (save an extra 50% clearance!)
  • 1 pack of socks
  • backpack
  • school supplies – many on “price blaster” including $0.25 crayons and $0.15 folders
  • food for school lunches – including peanut butter at $1 each, 4-pack Fred Meyer yogurt on discount for $0.99
  • breakfast items – Mom’s Best cereal and Kroger’s brand oatmeal

After coupons applied and tax added, I paid $99.69 for everything pictured. I was able to get my son clothes, a backpack, socks, food, and supplies.

Here are a couple things that stood out to me during my shopping trip:

  • The price blaster items – are REALLY hot. And they were for items I needed, too!
  • The store brand is worth paying attention to. Skippy was $1.17 each this week after coupons, but guess what? The Fred Meyer brand is $1 each, and it wasn’t in the ad.

Fred Meyer also clued me into a HOT tip. Starting this Friday and running for four days only, they will be issuing a Friends & Family pass:

Fred Meyer Friends and Family Pass Coupon Discount

This extra discount CAN be used on top of other bonus coupons and CAN be used on clearance items! HOT! (You can print your pdf coupon now and save it for this Friday)

Enter the Giveaway

Fred Meyer has graciously furnished me with (2) $50 gift cards to give to (2) lucky Coupon Project readers!

You can use the gift card to get a little one ready for back to school. Fred Meyer has great clearance sales right now on clothes and accessories. Or get all those school supplies that you need. Or maybe get everything you need for healthy lunches! There are really so many options for how you can use it! And don’t forget you can use it with your Rewards card, too.

Entering this giveaway is very easy: simply leave a comment on this post. For your entry, I’d love to know how you’d use your gift card or what you love about shopping at Fred Meyer. The contest will run through Friday, August 12th a 5pm PST. At that time, the two winners will be randomly selected and announced.

Please do make sure that the email you leave in the form below is accurate, and one you check often. It is how I will contact you should you win to coordinate the delivery of your prize.

Good luck!

Disclosure: Fred Meyer did not compensate me for this post or giveaway, but did provide a $100 gift card for my shopping trip, along with the (2) $50 gift cards for the winners.

I’m excited to announce that once again I will be participating with several fantastic Pacific Northwest blogs to provide you with the best back-to-school deals. In the next day or so, I will provide the full list of bloggers and links to their deals.

The store I will be featuring is Fred Meyer. I actually decided to do a quick trip today to see what I could find.

First: Fred Meyer is featuring Price Blaster items. These items are going to be your stockup price items! For mobile updates on price blaster items as they come out, text Blaster to 24421. Please note that you cannot use extra bonus coupons on price blaster specials.

Unless otherwise specified, the price blaster items are good thru 7/16.

Other Back-to-School Deals and Coupons

I was excited to have found some pretty terrific coupons today at my Fred Meyer…

This extra bonus coupon can be found hanging up all around the stationery section. It will yield you 20% off Arts, Crafts, and Office supplies. It is a store coupon and there is no limit! You can’t use it on the price blaster items, however.

And this coupon? Got me REALLY excited..

Because it’s a manufacturer’s coupon, you can use it anywhere! We’re just starting to see some great back-to-school prices, so I’m going to hang onto this one. Look for the tearpads on a specially-marked Bic display, in the back-to-school/seasonal section of your Fred Meyer.

Finally, I found this coupon:

I couldn’t find any deal I wanted to use this with, but I decided to hang onto it anyways. While it must be used for any item on the display, a list of UPCs is found on the back. I will just save it and see if a better deal pops up, as it doesn’t expire until 9/30.

A few other deals…

PaperMate Pens, 10 ct $0.99
Less 20% off coupon
Bottom line: $0.79
(I don’t believe this was a price blaster item…?)

Apparel, Clothing, Shoes
Save an extra 40% off clearance

Don’t have kids? Don’t write off supplies deals!

If you don’t have school age children (or children at all), you still may want to pay attention to the back-to-school deals that are starting:

  • Stocking stuffers. Got neices, nephews, or other littles in your life? Think about collecting some of these items for inexpensive stocking stuffers.
  • Operation Christmas child. Small boxes of crayons make great fillers for charitable causes like this.
  • Back-to-school drives. Check with United Way or your local food bank to see if there is a non-profit near you that is rounding up items for lower income families in your community.
  • Your own office supplies. I love stocking up on items like pens and paper this time of year. In some cases, school supplies work just as well as office supplies!

If you’re planning an outing, make sure to take a look at all the deals at Fred Meyer for this week.

Have you found anything else recently at Fred Meyer for back-to-school?
