It’s both a long and short walk up the Grand Staircase at the same time.
“Congratulations, Agent Cat,” the butler greets me, bowing his head slightly, as I reach the top. “She will see you now.”
He opens a door to my left, which opens into an elegant and tastefully decorated parlor. The room smells faintly of lilac and the thick, velvet curtains have been pulled back to let the natural light spill in.
She is standing, looking out the window and out at the gardens when I enter the room.
“Agent Cat,” she addresses me, sensing my presence immediately. “The British Secret Service has informed me of your triumph abroad.”
“Your Majesty,” I respond, bowing as best I can do.

“It’s a world of laughter, a world of tears…” it takes exactly a half a minute before I realize the It’s a Small World song is going to get old. Fast.
This is just more motivation to capture Mouse as quickly as possible.
“You can’t catch me…cat!” he sneers from inside of the boat in front of me. The people on the boat ahead of him gasp at the realization that this is no Mickey Mouse. One small boy whimpers and his mom clutches him tightly.

I had initially believed CoCo, and taken what she’d told me at face value. But as I work my way slowly through the park, it doesn’t add up. A thought occurs to me, and it is both terrible and makes too much sense all at the same time. I find quiet bench outside Sleeping Beauty’s castle and pull my cell phone out of my satchel.
“Call Felix.” I say.
After a moment, I hear Felix’s familiar voice on the other end of the phone. “Fat Cat! How’s the mission?”
“Not well…”

Main Street is exactly how I imagined it would be. Street vendors sell Mickey Mouse shaped balloons. Families stop right in the middle of the street to turn and snap a picture with the Sleeping Beauty castle as the backdrop. Kids jump up and down, screaming with excitement about the day that surely lies ahead. “When you wish upon a star” pipes in from the sidewalk. The smell of hot waffle cones sizzling on a griddle wafts by. It is new to me, yet strangely reminiscent all in the same moment.
I know I’m close to Mouse now. And I’m glad for it. This chase has taken me to Colorado, Weesp, Sierra Leone, Seattle and ended here. The happiest place on Earth.

“Any idea what your brother is up to?”
I’m doing an excellent job of keeping my cool, despite the fact that I’m a cat in a bonnet and booties and being grabbed around the belly by a 10-year old girl and held over a goldfish tank.
“He does computer stuff,” Margaret says, keeping her grip firm. “He’s very smart.”
“Do you know who he’s doing computer work for right now?”
“Uh uh.”
“A giant mouse.”
“A giant mouse!” she sets me down, suddenly interested in what I have to say.

I’m in a professor’s office, trapped in a cage Rupert apparently had ready and waiting for me. The room is small, and the desk is stacked high with papers, books, and periodicals. The shades are drawn, and the air smells musty, old. Given that it’s summer quarter, the hallway filled with rows of professors’ offices is virtually empty. Which is of course why Rupert has brought me here.
He is standing at a desk, rifling through my satchel, wearing a smug smile.
“You think this is going to do you any good?” he takes out my bowtie with the hidden camera in it and chucks it into the wastebasket. Then he pulls out my wristwatch that emits a smoke shield. “Or this?”
I say nothing.
“You spies think you can outwit folks like us with these worthless toys,” he laughs. “So today I’m going to show you that two can play at this game. Emphasis on play.”
