Grocery Outlet

I paid a visit to my South Tacoma Grocery Outlet store recently and I wanted to share some of the items I found! Remember that each Grocery Outlet store is independently owned and operated so what you find at your store may vary. (You can find a location near you at Grocery Outlet’s website.)

100_7863 (800x600)

Strawberries for just $1.50 per container!

100_7879 (638x800)

Lately I’ve taken a second look at Grocery Outlet’s housewares section. Check out this Bella S’mores Maker I found for just $7.99. I swear I’ve seen these for upwards of $20!

100_7880 (600x800)

They also had this Bella Spiral Cake Maker for $7.99. We actually own the Bella donut maker and LOVE it. I was very tempted to pick this up!

GOGreenBag

Earth Day is April 22nd and Grocery Outlet is celebrating by hosting an Instagram contest where fans can help design their next “eco-frugal” reusable grocery bag! This contest is running NOW through April 17th only, and I wanted to make sure you knew about it!

Here’s how it works:

  1. Draw something that you think expresses what eco-friendly living looks like and take a picture.
  2. Post your photo to Instagram, tag @grocery_outlet and make sure to use hashtag #GOgreenbag to have your design entered.
  3. The winner will be selected by Grocery Outlet and receive a $100 Grocery Outlet gift card. Additionally, honorable mentions will receive $25 Grocery Outlet gift cards.

For more information, please make sure to visit Grocery Outlet’s website. Remember that you only have until April 17th to enter!

For fun, the Grocery Outlet team sent me off to scout out some eco-friendly products at my local South Tacoma store. As I was looking, I pondered what eco-friendly meant to me.

Eco-friendly: Products without Harsh Chemicals

I don’t think I’ve ever NOT found Seventh Generation products at my Grocery Outlet. These household and personal care products are made without toxins and come in packaging that can be recycled. Find them for less at Grocery Outlet!

seventhgeneration

I also found some eco-friendly dish soap:

100_7873 (800x600)Glass cleaner:

100_7874 (600x800)And insecticidal soap for the garden:

100_7872 (539x800)

And don’t forget paper products!

100_7867 (800x600)

If you notice – the prices are pretty fantastic on these items! I personally picked up two of the Seventh Generation Laundry Detergent 50 oz bottles for $4.99 each and two of the Green Works dish cleaner for $0.99 each.

Eco-Friendly: Buying Organic when Possible

Organically grown produce keeps our soils free of harmful pesticides and chemicals. I spied lots of organic greens today in the produce department!

100_7869 (800x600)A bit part of what you’ll find at Grocery Outlet fall under what they call NOSH (Natural, Organic, Specialty, Healthy). You can find these products throughout the store.

organicitemsIn case you missed it – you might want to go back and check my post on the Maple Valley, WA store opening. I found they had a particularly sweet section of organic items. The photo below comes from that post.

100_6950 (800x600)If eating organic or natural foods matter to you, I do encourage you to check out Grocery Outlet!

Eco-friendly: Reducing Waste & Carbon Footprint

When I think of living eco-friendly, I think about doing one’s part to reduce waste. I did find a few items at Grocery Outlet that could help to this end!

Check out these energy-efficient lightbulbs I found starting at just $0.33 each. I actually have used them before and LOVE them. I picked up a few extras for my cupboard.

100_7904 (800x600)

How about this reusable K-cup? Fill it with your own coffee. This one seems like a real bargain: you get FOUR for $8.99. Normally I think one of these would put you out about $10.

100_7905I also found these adorable Crayon thermoses for your kids for $2.99 each- BPA free, too! A great way to make your own beverages or soups and avoid buying individual packages.

100_7881They also sold a variety of coffee tumblers and water bottles.

Eco-Friendly: GROW YOUR OWN!

I saved my very favorite way of eco-friendly living for last. If you’ve followed my blog for awhile, you might have watched me become into a passionate supporter of growing your own. Few things are as rewarding (or nutritious!) as walking clipping and harvesting fresh food you’ve grown from your garden, patio, or windowsill.

And good news! I found LOTS of garden supplies for CHEAP today at Grocery Outlet!

gardensupplies

I found: small flower pot 2-packs for $1.99 each, plant markers for $0.99, small tools for just a few bucks…. but my favorite find? THE WALK-IN GREENHOUSE FOR $34.95 (pictured above). I was really tempted to buy one (I have one similar that I wrote about recently)!

(Incidentally, I found those two today at the end of the frozen foods aisle at the South Tacoma store - I’d hurry if you’re interested = that is a FABULOUS deal.)

All in all? I’d say I found a really nice selection of eco-friendly and organic items at Grocery Outlet today! Here’s what I brought home for about $20:

Want even MORE Grocery Outlet? Check out these awesome finds spotted at my Grocery Outlet store in South Tacoma a couple weeks ago.

If you are new to Grocery Outlet, you should know that they are a different kind of grocery store, offering deep discounts on food through relationships they have with stores and manufacturers. Because of this, the manufacturers do not permit customers to redeem coupons at Grocery Outlet. However, Grocery Outlet does put out store coupons from time to time (such as in today’s post).

Each store is independently owned and operated, so prices and selection may vary from store to store. For more information, please read my initial review trip as well as my trip to Berkeley 2011 fall where I met with the Grocery Outlet corporate team.

Speaking of Grocery Outlet, I am pleased to announce the two winners of last month’s $25 gift card giveaway!

#1 – Tim!

When I was their a couple days ago, they still have the small round good Gouda cheese for $1.99!

#2 – Roy R!

This might just be the perfect reason to try Grocery Outlet for the first time..

Congrats to the winners! I’ll be contacting you by email to coordinate the delivery of your prize so stay tuned. And stay tuned for another trip report (plus another chance to win!) in the next week or so!

A couple months ago, I announced the exciting news that I am guest posting for Grocery Outlet once a month for the next several months. The theme I came up with is using inspiring ingredients found at Grocery Outlet to break out of the dinner rut we so often find ourselves in. In case you missed them, you might want to check my previous recipes for this series:  stuffed Pasilla Peppers recipe and Sundried Tomato Pesto Chicken Stuffed Manicotti.

This month, I decided to experiment with this jarred cactus I found at my Grocery Outlet for $1.79. What I came up with was delicious: Steak & Cactus Tacos!

I made my monthly trek out to scout Grocery Outlet deals for you. I visited my South Tacoma store yesterday and as always, I did not leave disappointed. Here are just a few highlights of some of the many awesome things I found in the store.

100_7453 (2) (600x800)

Check out this awesome little greenhouse I found for $19.99! I’m thinking this would be great for a deck or patio. You might want to read about the little greenhouse I just got for some more ideas.

There were other gardening supplies on hand too…

100_7454 (2) (800x600)

Resuable plant markers, 10-pack for $0.99!

100_7455 (2) (800x600)Natural twine & garden ties for $1.99!

I noticed a few items in housewares that were pretty stellar deals too:

100_7456 (2) (800x600)

Pack of 2 drinking glasses for $0.99!

100_7457 (600x800)

Kitchen gadgets – of all sorts. I found peelers, knives, can openers etc. and everything was cheap. Prices seemed to start around $0.99 andgo up from there.

100_7458 (800x600)

Check out this 3-piece Springform Oneida cake set for $5.99 (reg. $15.99!)

Lots of deals in grocery today too. We’ll start with frozen foods:

100_7468 (800x505)

WOAH. It’s my most favorite frozen dinner EVER. Amy’s Indian Mattar Paneer for $2.59?! This is usually $4 or even $5, so $2.59 is a steal. (Yes, I did pick up a couple!) 100_7469 (800x600)

Amy’s GF Rice Macaroni & Cheese for $1.99. (This is normally closer to $4 as well.) Grocery Outlet does a really good job of always having some kind of Amy’s frozen meal selection in stock.

100_7470 (800x600)

Light Life veggie burgers for $1.99! There are 4 in a pack and they are good!

100_7471 (800x600)

Gluten-free frozen alfredo for $1.99

100_7472 (800x600)

Organic multigrain flax…bread? for $0.97. I think these were very small loaves of bread. Anyone know?

100_7473 (800x600)

Evol shredded beef burritos for $0.99!

100_7463 (800x600)

Strawberries, $1.99

100_7465 (800x600)

Fancy spices in grinders for $2.99. They had chili, basil, oregano, and more.

100_7466 (800x600)

Gourmet Sea Salt in a cute jar for $2.99.
100_7475 (800x600)

Kombucha for $1.99!

100_7477 (800x600)

Organic, fair-trade coffee for $5.99!

100_7483 (800x600)

Small cans of orange juice $0.25. Perfect for school lunches!

100_7484 (800x600)

Thai Curries for $1.99

100_7485 (800x600)

Sprouted mung beans for $2.99. This totally intrigued me, and so I bought a bag. It looks like you can eat them raw or cook them. Anyone use these before?

100_7486 (800x591)

Late July Organic Crackers for $1.99. These are normally closer to $4 a box!

100_7490 (800x600)

Goat cheese for $1.99. Of course, Grocery Outlet always has crazy deals on cheese!

100_7492 (800x600)

Wow! Check out this nice sized wheel of double crème brie for $3.99! Elsewhere, pay up to $12.99!

100_7494 (800x600)

Diced prosciutto for $1.99 (elsewhere, $5.89).

100_7495 (800x600)

Pillsbury Valentine’s Day Cookies $0.49 each! As you might expect, these were running close to date, but if you could cook them up quickly, you’d be totally fine.
100_7496 (800x600)

Organic Baby Kale for $2.50

100_7497 (600x800)

Paul Masson Carafe White Wine $1.99. Grocery Outlet has the BEST deals in wine! It’s my favorite place to try new wines because you can ALWAYS find a good bottle for $3-5. They will be having another 20% off wine sale soon, stay tuned for details!

100_7498 (800x600)

Camp Jack Apple Wine (from Walla Walla!) $2.99. I did take home a bottle of this and it was delightful!

Don’t forget to check Grocery Outlet for deals in health and beauty…

100_7459 (800x600)

I’ve said it before, but Grocery Outlet is one of THE best kept secrets in high-end skin care discounts!
100_7460 (800x600)

Another example of normally spendy skin care for cheap!

100_7461 (800x600)

I thought the $2.99 for the Hawaiian Tropic was an excellent price! The Aveeno ain’t bad, particularly this time of year when coupons for suncare are still scant and sales haven’t hit yet.

100_7462 (600x800)Check this out! Body Shop Lotion for $3.99!

Of course, this is just  a small sampling of the kinds of gems you’ll find at Grocery Outlet. I definitely encourage you to check out the Grocery Outlet store near you to see what you can find!
