In case you’re unfamiliar with Grocery Outlet, you should know that they do not accept manufacturer’s coupons. This is because they are a different kind of grocery store. They sell overstocks, products with labeling changes, and other similar items not sold at other grocery stores. (However, you will still find fresh produce, dairy, and bakery items that they bring in to sell as a convenience to their customers.) Given their model, they also don’t issue rainchecks.

My Wine Stock-up Trip at Grocery Outlet: Plus, Extra Deals!

DSCN6588 (Medium)

I was super excited for the 20% off wine sale at Grocery Outlet, so I decided to pay a trip yesterday. I wanted to highlight some of the prices you’ll find thanks to this sale, along with a few other good deals I spotted. (Please note that this was the Federal Way store and prices and selection will vary from store to store as each is independently owned and operated.)DSCN6586 (Medium)Jumbo Avocados: $1 each DSCN6587 (Medium)Gentle Skin Cleanser (“compare to Cetaphil”): $0.99 DSCN6588 (Medium)Jason Deodorant: $2.99 (“elsewhere” $6.99)DSCN6589 (Medium)Fancy Soaps: $1.99 (“elsewhere” $9.99)
While I think the “elsewhere” price seems a bit inflated, I do think Grocery Outlet has very good prices on natural body care and gift-worthy soaps. These smelled lovely!DSCN6590 (Medium)Moscow Mule Mug: $5.99 (“elsewhere” $5.99)
This does seem like a good price to me for this item. Thoughts? DSCN6592 (Medium)Kozy Shack Rice Pudding (and Chocolate Pudding): $1.49
Wow! This is a steal for this item, which normally sells for about $3.50 – 4 in stores. I almost never buy it due to the price, but at $1.49 I picked up a container. I love, love this stuff. I had a big bowl yesterday topped with nutmeg – yum!DSCN6593 (Medium)HUGE can of Ro-Tel Tomatoes: $1.49DSCN6594 (Medium)Jarred Heinz Turkey Gravy: $0.50
I’d consider this a stock-up price. The jars had an expiration date of end of December though. [Read more…]

Grocery Outlet: Wine Sale Starts Today, Plus Save $5 On Turkey!

I wanted to remind you that Grocery Outlet’s 20% off Wine Sale starts today – Wednesday, November 4th – and runs through next Tuesday, November 10th.

This is one of my favorite times to visit Grocery Outlet, because they have a great selection of already deeply-discounted wines. It’s a good opportunity to stock up for the holidays. There is no coupon required and no minimum/maximum number of bottles to buy.

If you’re making a trip out, you might also be interested in this coupon for $5 off a 10-14 lb Northern Pride Turkey. After the coupon, you’ll pay just $9.99.

Grocery Outlet 20% off Wine Sale

Grocery Outlet: 20% off Wine Sale, Nov 4 – 10th!

Grocery Outlet 20% off Wine Sale

Grocery Outlet 20% off Wine SaleHeads up, wine lovers! Next week kicks off Grocery Outlet’s popular 20% off wine sale. This sale will run Wednesday, November 4th through Tuesday, November 10th.

Here’s a few things you should know…

  • Grocery Outlet already has wine deeply discounted. I can regularly find nice bottles of wine for well under $5.
  • Grocery Outlet will *not* jack up their wine prices just prior to the sale.
  • There is no coupon required.
  • There is no limit to how much you can buy – buy one bottle, or many.

This sale only comes around a few times of year, so I like to take advantage of the discounts. With the holidays upon us, I think it’d be a good time to stock up.

My friend Christopher (who used to work at the Tacoma 56th store and is now the Fresno store owner) put together this hilarious, short video explaining more about the sale. Take a look:

{In Progress!} Grocery Outlet: Save 20% off All Wine, March 31 – April 4

Grocery Outlet Wine Sale - Save 20% off 3/31/15 - 4/4/15Just a reminder that through Saturday, April 4th, you can save 20% on all wines at Grocery Outlet! There are no limits to how much you can buy, and there’s no coupon needed.

This is probably my #1 way to save on quality wine! Here are some things you should know about this sale:

  • Grocery Outlet’s wines are already at top discounted prices. What makes this sale great is that you’re saving 20% on top of already deeply discounted bottles of wine. The other thing I love is that Grocery Outlet won’t jack up the prices just prior to the sale, either.
  • Grocery Outlet offers a wide variety of wines. I have found high quality reds and whites, along with some “fun to try” varieties like chocolate wine and Almond Roca wine!
  • This sale only happens a few times a year. This sale is not likely to come around again until fall, so I do encourage you to stock up.

Here are some examples of what you might find at your store. These photos were taken at Grocery Outlet store visits from about a year ago.

Perfect Brunch Recipes: Tomato & Mozzarella Quiche and Baked Apple French Toast Casserole

DSCN3453 (600x800)

I love brunch! Not only do you have so many options for what you can make, often you can save a ton of money over a more formal dinner. Recently, I had the opportunity to create two “brunch on a budget” recipes for Grocery Outlet’s Bargainista Blog.

This Tomato and Mozzarella Quiche is absolutely delicious served hot or cold. It also reheats well. The recipe is easily adaptable to whatever ingredients you have on hand, plus it’s very inexpensive to make! Fun fact – I have been known to make quiche for dinner as well as brunch. Why not? It’s that good!

French Toast

The second recipe I shared was for a Baked Apple French Toast Casserole. Warning: dieters need not apply! This is a decadent dish, best saved for a special occasion. It almost reminded me of a bread pudding, except you can put a little syrup on it if you so wish! Whatever you call it, it’s absolutely delicious.

Leftover Turkey Ideas: Turkey Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette & Turkey Roll-ups

Leftover Turkey Idea: Salad with Pumpkin Pie Spice Croutons & Cranberry Vinaigrette

Leftover Turkey – Salad

This month, I wanted to create couple different recipes for Grocery Outlet that you could make using leftover turkey. After all, there’s no reason why you should settle for plain old turkey sandwiches or make your stand-by pot of turkey noodle soup!

The first recipe I came up with Turkey Salad with Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice Croutons and Cranberry Vinaigrette. I have to say, I totally impressed myself with this flavor combination! It’s sweet, it’s savory – and it’s absolutely delicious. I think a salad is also a nice, light meal to throw together after the heavier holiday eating.
Leftover Turkey Idea: Turkey Roll-ups with Cranberry

Leftover Turkey – Roll-ups

Next, I put a spin on pigs in blankets by wrapping up leftover turkey and Swiss cheese in crescent rolls. You could then use your leftover cranberry sauce for dipping!

Where can you get these amazing recipes and grocery lists? Over at the Grocery Outlet Bargainista Blog! Make sure to check it out!

DSCN3552 (800x608)Now, onto grocery deals! I spotted this deal: spend a minimum of $30 and get a Jennie-O Frozen Turkey (10 – 12 lb) for $8.99. This works out to $0.75/lb at the best possible scenario (12 lbs) – not a bad deal at all.

The second recipe is “Quick” Calzones. The “quick” part comes from getting a little help from refrigerated pizza dough for the crust. This recipe is fast and delicious and can be customized in so many ways – perfect if you have a family of picky eaters like me!

Two Delicious Dinners you can Make with Tomatoes

DSCN6925 (742x800)If you know how to plan your weekly menu right, there are ways you can save money! Here are a couple of my best tips for doing so:

  1. Consider going vegetarian one or two nights a week. Not only will you save money, you will be more likely to incorporate more vegetables into your dinner plan.
  2. Consider meals that use similar ingredients across nights. Buying three ingredients that can be used differently is going to be less expensive than nine ingredients. Sometimes I also like to make a base meal and turn the leftovers into a new dish the second night.

DSCN6853 (600x800)I found blueberry plants for $1.99 each. (I found the same deal happening last month, too.) There were plants both outside and inside, so make sure to take a look through all of them if you are planning on picking some up!

I found many – so please take this post as highlights of what you might find at your store. Remember each Grocery Outlet store is independently owned and operated, so selection and prices may vary.

DSCN6003 (593x800)Right out front of the store I found these blueberry plants for just $1.99.

DSCN6004 (800x600)Mangoes were $0.50 each. Perfect, since one of my recipes this month for Grocery Outlet’s Bargainista Blog involves mango salsa!

DSCN6007 (800x600)Progresso Recipe Starters were $0.50 each.

soapgoI found all kinds of fancy soaps for less, including a 4-piece boxed set for $8.99 (elsewhere $24.95) and coconut soap for just $0.79.

I found a couple really nice coffee table books for just $4.99. I ended up picking this one up!

DSCN6015 (800x600)

Look what I found in housewares – a sweet little bento box for only $7.99! There was a slightly smaller size for $6.99. It also includes the containers and silverware inside.

DSCN6018 (800x600)8-pack Microfiber Scrubber Cloths for $3.99. These would make great, reusable cleaning rags. (Plus, they come in a variety of cute colors!)

Here’s another amazing find – Justin’s Peanut Butter for $2.99! They had regular and a honey-flavored peanut butter.

It might surprise you to learn that Grocery Outlet can actually be a great source of deals on organic food! Today I found organic chicken ($2.29/lb), organic chicken & spinach soup ($0.99), Arrowhead organic yellow corn meal ($1.99), and Arrowhead organic stone ground wheat flour ($1.99).

Canned pumpkin for just $0.99.

DSCN6032 (800x600)I was very excited to find Tillamook Greek Yogurt for $0.50. Check out the flavor – Cinnamon Hazelnut! Last year, I found the Tillamook dessert yogurt months before it was offered in other stores!

Athenos Feta Cheese for just $1.49! Perfect for making the Mediterranean Chicken Salad recipe I shared on the blog last week!

Meatballs 2 Ways

Meatballs Two Ways: Italian Wedding Soup & Spaghetti & Meatballs

Meatballs 2 Ways

Meatballs 2 Ways: Italian Wedding Soup & Spaghetti & MeatballsWhat’s one way you can save money on your groceries? Effective menu planning, I say! This year at Grocery Outlet’s Bargainista Blog my goal is to show how you can create two or more meals based around similar ingredients to save big bucks.

This month it’s all about meatballs! I start by creating a very simple and delicious meatball recipe. The first night, you’ll cook half of the batch in a savory Italian Wedding Soup. When I started cooking this soup, my son asked, “Mama, what is that good smell?” And then my kids proceeded to eat a huge bowl of it each! The next night, you’ll take your reserved meatballs and simmer them in a from-scratch spaghetti sauce that will have you vowing to never buy the jarred stuff again!

Delicious, easy… and best of all, frugal. To get the shopping list and recipes, please head on over to my post over at Grocery Outlet’s Bargainista Blog.
