Search & Win

It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about Swagbucks.

But I’ve gotten some of my friends and readers asking…so I thought I’d revisit this topic today for your reading pleasure.

What is Swagbucks?

Swagbucks is a site that offers you rewards (AKA “swag”) in exchange for performing everyday web searches. As you might have guessed, you do need to sign up for a Swagbucks account to do this. Don’t worry; it’s free.

When you do your web searches through Swagbucks (as opposed to Google or Bing), you’ll randomly be awarded swag bucks. Rack up enough of these puppies, and you can redeem them for honest-to-goodness prizes. In my experience, it’s easy to receive at least one swag buck prize award per day for your searches.

There’s a catch, right?

No; there’s not. I’ve been using Swagbucks for close to two years now and can tell you I’ve personally earned and redeemed many Swagbucks.

So what kinds of things can I get?

Mostly gift cards, and some electronic items. There are also collectibles and sales from time to time.

But I’ll tell you what I personally use my Swagbucks for.

$5 Amazon Gift Cards.

These currently take 450 Swagbucks to get, and that takes the average person roughly a month to earn (more on that in a bit). The best part is you can stack Amazon Gift Cards! So when I earn one of these, I add it to my Amazon account so it’s ready to go. And because your Amazon credit never expires, you’re golden.

I also occasionally like to redeem my Swagbucks for $10 Starbucks Gift Cards. This takes a bit more Swagbucks, true, but it’s a nice splurge.

Other tips about Swagbucks?

Here are a few other things you should know before getting started…

1. Check out the Earn Tab on Swagbucks’ site! Learn about other ways for scoring Swagbucks including participating in polls and trading in old electronic equipment.
2. Fridays are Mega Swagbuck Fridays. The Swagbucks awarded on these days may be higher.
3. Conisder installing the toolbar. Sometimes there will be codes for FREE Swagbucks sent to toolbar users!

Ready to get started? Go ahead – give Swagbucks a try!

If you’ve been using Swagbucks for awhile now, what other advice would you have? Has it been worth it for you?

I’m sometimes asked what Swagbucks are, and if they are worth it. In my humble opinion? YES!

Here’s why: you earn Swagbucks by doing your everyday web searches. You can then redeem these “bucks” for prizes. In my experience, your best bet is to redeem 450 Swagbucks for a $5 Amazon gift certificate. You can stack these over time and build your Amazon credit. This is exactly what I’ve done!

I’d say I really started making an effort using Swagbucks over a year ago. Flash forward to this week, I decided I’d really like a new camera! Mine died, and I’ve been borrowing  a friend’s. I really wanted one for my New York trip next week too. After using my Amazon credit earned from Swagbucks? I paid ZERO out of pocket for the Kodak EasyShare Camera pictured above! I’ve also purchased books, magazine subscriptions, and Christmas gifts for free using Swagbucks. I’m also in the process of saving up my Amazon credit to remodel my master bedroom (believe it or not, I’m actually pretty close to doing just that!).

In my experience, it’d be reasonable to expect you’d earn enough credit for a $5 Amazon gift card per month if all you did was the web searches. There are additional ways you can earn “bucks” too, such as trading in old electronics. To get started, you can join Swagbucks now for free!

Total spent for everything pictured above: $59. (And $5 of that was sales tax, people!)

How much did I save? Well, shoot…I already packed away the toys in my closet and I’m too lazy to go fish it all out again. I’m sure you understand. Suffice it to say everything was 75% (except the crayons which were a quarter each). So, that’s about $240+ worth of toys, baby!

Not bad, not bad. Would you believe I actually COMPLETED Christmas shopping for my daughter on this trip (as well as a couple neices and nephews)? It took less than an hour. And I’ll probably finish up my son’s gifts for $0.00 out of pocket thanks to the Amazon credit I’ve racked up using Swagbucks. SCORE! And SCORE!

So while others will wake at the crack of dawn the Day After Thanksgiving, I’ll be taking a Day After Thanksgiving Nap! HA! You just think of that as you line up outside your big-box retailer of choice at 3 am!

If you want this, HURRY…I posted this deal before and the price jumped up I believe the same day!

This Step2 Easel for 2 in Pink was $69.99, but right now it’s $26.81 AND ships for free! (That’s 62% off!)

If you’ve been racking up Amazon credit through Swagbucks, this might be a great way to use some of it. (And if you’re not signed up for Swagbucks? Check it out! It’s a great EASY way to earn points you can redeem for prizes, including Amazon credit!)

Thanks, Thrifty NW Mom!

Search & Win

I'm a fan of Swagbucks, though I haven't mentioned it in awhile. What is Swagbucks exactly and how does it work? The basic premise is you sign up for a Swagbucks account (it's free) and then you use their search engine to perform your web-searches…just as you would use Google. (And you'll find the search results you get are similar to Google, as well.)

In exchange, you'll randomly be awarded Swag Bucks to your account. You can also earn Bucks by referring friends, participating in polls, trading in your used video games and equipment, and other contests. Then, you can redeem these for prizes.

My favorite prize? A $5 Amazon gift card. Once I have my Amazon gift card code, I add it to my account to have available. You can add multiple gift cards to your account. If you did your ordinary searches through Swagbucks, you should be able to earn about 10-20 Swagbucks per day*. If you carry this thinking through, you should be able to earn a $5 Amazon gift card each month. Start now, and you'll have a little money saved up in time for the holidays (and let me tell you, Amazon out-did any Bricks & Mortar competitor they had during Black Friday!). This is a very easy way to earn a little extra money. No surveys, no offers to complete, just the everyday web searches you already do.

*Please note that as of today, they changed things up. 1 Swagbucks is now 10.

Why join Swagbucks now?
Today the folks at Swagbucks are launching Swagbucks 3.0 and they are celebrating with special giveaways and contests. They are also giving you new opportunities to earn Swagbucks. For instance, you can download their toolbar, and earn extra Swagbucks for viewing special offers.

Need another reason to join?
When you sign up, use SWAGCODE4U and you'll start your account with 60 Swagbucks right off the bat! This code is case sensitive and is only good through March 4th at 6am.

Already registered?
Download the new toolbar and make sure you're actually logged in to start earning your Bucks! Be sure to check out their new site for information on all their Swagbuck giveaways and contests.
