Have you noticed how PRICY team gear is these days? Especially if you want to cheer on your favorite NFL team – the Seahawks, of course – just a t-shirt can run you up to $30, easy! So, I came up with this adorable team spirit headband to dress up your Blue Friday outfit that costs less than $5 to make. It’s perfect for little ones, but adults can sport it, too!
Here are the supplies you’ll want to grab at your local craft store:
- Felt in your team colors
- Piece of cardboard (leftover from a cereal box works great)
- Glue gun
- Fabric scissors
- Fold over elastic
- Needle + thread
Only a small piece of felt is needed for this project. You can even just buy sheets of felt, like these, which were only 34 cents!
The fold over elastic comes in all kinds of colors and designs. You can make one for all of your favorite teams or in your school colors.
First, you’ll want to draw a two 4 petal flowers on your cardboard, about 2″ and 4″ large.
For the small flowers, use your marker to trace 8 flowers onto the felt. For the large flower, trace 5 flowers onto the coordinating color.
After you’ve traced the flowers, cut them all out. Be sure to cut on the inside of your marker lines so they don’t show up on your finished product. I also used some of the scraps to cut out circles for the base of the flowers. The green are about a the size of a quarter, and the blues ones are about the size of a half dollar. Now, it’s time to fire up your hot glue gun!
To make the flowers, you will fold each piece in half, then in half again. Put some glue on the base and place all four flowers on the circle.
Glue all the flowers together and admire your craftiness!
Now, you’ll want to hand stitch the elastic. I just measured the band around my niece’s head. You will want it to be snug as the elastic stretches once you put it on.
You can also purchase a ready made headband for this project. I found this in the $1 bin near the checkout at JoAnn’s.
Cut out an oval of felt large enough for all of your flowers to fit on there and hot glue the elastic to the oval. I place it right under the hand stitched portion so that part doesn’t show when wearing the headband. Then just hot glue the flowers onto that oval in any design you like!
And, it’s done! Be sure to take some pics of your cute model and future cheerleader sporting your crafty creation! GO SEAHAWKS!
