about rite aid rebates

If you’ve never used Rite Aid’s rebate program before…it’s super easy! All you need to do is signup for an online rebate account. As you buy items throughout the monthly rebate cycle, just log on and enter in the information prompted from your receipt. No need to collect those receipts and mail in. There is something very important to note: you may only submit for your rebate check ONCE per cycle. So enter in your information, but only submit once you’re sure you’re done buying rebate items for the month. When your check arrives, it will look like a little postcard. You can use it as a gift certificate for your next Rite Aid purchases or do what I do, just deposit it at your bank.

Last week I mentioned some general FAQ questions on the UP Rewards program would be answered by Rite Aid early August.

Well, at the end of June I posed my own questions…and I got some answers today for you! Please note that these answers are coming from the PR department after some research and effort. My contact has graciously offered to help answer additional questions you may have…so let me know if you have others.

1. Can you redeem an UP Reward immediately? (I personally was able to do this, but one reader was told she had to come back the next day.)

Yes, there is no wait time. Please feel free to refer any readers in situations like that to me so that we can investigate and find out what happened.

2. Can you redeem an UP Reward for the same promotion? (For instance, if I buy Colgate and earn a $1 UP Reward, can I then go back and buy another Colgate and get a 2nd UP Reward?)

Yes. Valid +UP Rewards should be thought of as gift cards and may be combined without limit.

3. Can you redeem mulitple UP Rewards in a same transaction?

Absolutely, assuming you’re talking about the “$X off non-prescription purchase” +UP Rewards, you can stack as many of these as you wish provided the Rewards amount is not greater than the pretax value of the transaction (and if it is, our associates can manually adjust the purchase so you just lose any extra Reward value). Just think of these Rewards as gift cards, which don’t affect coupons being stacked either.

4. What should you do if you expect to receive an UP Reward, but it doesn’t print? (This happened to at least one of my readers.)

Yes, our store teams have been given instruction for several work-arounds, although you – or your reader – should please point this out at the time of the transaction as it’s difficult to get back into the system after you’ve left the store. (And I apologize for asking you and your readers to doublecheck us. We have several initiatives coming up that will hopefully reduce the instances where Rewards fail to print and also make it easier for associates to offer an acceptable replacement offer should it occur anyway).

5. Are UP Rewards from Rite Aid (vs. manufacturers)?

A combination.

6. Does Rite Aid intend to replace their Rebate program with UP Rewards?

Not as of July 2010, but our goal has always been to offer the most effective and practical rewards/savings programs.

7. Any press release, web link, etc about what this program is or its guidelines? I haven’t seen anything.

Link I shared last week is about it thus far, although I do intend to release an FAQ sheet next month to address this issue (thus please keep questions from you or your readers coming so that I can address as many concerns as possible).

Some of you have been asking questions about the UP Rewards at Rite Aid…and I have a few questions of my own!

So I very politely have been hounding asking my contact over at Rite Aid (he’s a PR rep) for some answers. Apparently, I’m not the only one. The man has been inundated with bloggers with questions such as…

Can you use multiple UP Rewards in a transaction?
Are UP Rewards like manufacturers coupons?
Are UP Rewards going to replace Rite Aid’s rebate program?

I received an email from him today saying that there’s now some very basic information up on their website HERE. I found the information to be what I already knew, and I’m sure it won’t be new news to you either. That being said, he assured me he’s working on an FAQ about the UP Rewards based on questions I and other bloggers have passed on to him (and many of these questions I’ve compiled from you). This should be up sometime in early August.

I thought I’d let you know what’s been going on in case you’ve been scratching your head about the program.

I got a pretty interesting reader question a few days ago. After some consideration, I thought it would be a great question to address as a post.

Lauren writes:

I recently got a total of 6  coupons for Pampers Cruisers. 4 of them are regular manufactures coupons, 1 is for Right Aid, and one is $3/1 diaper and 1 wipe.  What would be your recommendations on how I can maximize these coupons? 2 of them expire by the end of July, the other ones end in either August or September.

It can be tempting when you have high value coupons to want to “force them” to work. So my first advice, Lauren, would be to resist this urge. Ask yourself…do the diapers HAVE to be Pampers? And do they HAVE to be purchased from Rite Aid?

If the answer is “no,” my favorite place to find diaper deals of the moment is Baby Cheapskate. Every week she has a feature called “Top Diaper and Formula Deals of the Week.” So if you are ever in need of diapers or formula, check there and you can see a quick run down of the best current deals.

Going back to Rite Aid…

1. Visit iheartriteaid. Given that you have coupons that expire the end of July, your goal should be to use them on the best sale that occurs in July. You can easily determine this by visitng iheartriteaid.com. There you’ll find weekly ad previews for the remaining weeks in July! Scan ahead to see if Pampers will be on sale in any of those weeks. At the moment, there is no preview for the last week of July up. I didn’t see any sales on Pampers for the remainder of the month. Since Pampers is a P&G brand and the P&G inserts are released first of the month, we may well have missed the boat on any Pampers sales for July already. But this would be your logical first step.

2. If there are no sales on Pampers, try to find a week that has a number of free-after-rebate items. Hang with me here…so I noticed the ad for July 18th has a number of free-after-rebate items. Check it out:

Colonaid $22.99…submit for $22.99 rebate…FREE
Dulcolax $9.99…submit for $9.99 rebate…FREE
CryoStat $8.99…submit for $8.99 rebate…FREE
Smooth Move $3.69…submit for $3.69 rebate…FREE

Remember that $5-off-$25 printable coupon? Print that out.

Now here’s an idea of how you could work a regular priced item into this mix for a good deal. Let’s suppose the Pampers are $10 for a jumbo pack.

Buy 1 Pampers Cruisers $10
Buy 1 Pampers Wipes $2.50
Buy 1 Dulcolax Balance $9.99
Buy 1 Smooth Move $2.69
Subtotal: $26.18

Then, use the following coupons
Your $1/1 Rite Aid Pampers
Your $3/1 Pampers Cruisers Manufacturer’s coupon
$2/1 wipes coupon from 7/4 P&G
$4/1 Dulcolax Balance coupon from 5/16 SmartSource
$5-off-$25 printable coupon
Pay at the register: $11.18

Then, submit for the following rebates:
$9.99 Dulcolax Balance
$3.69 Smooth Move

Bottom line: profit of $2.50!! (not including any sales tax, of course!)

Amazingly, you will actually get a BETTER deal by buying additional items so you can use that $5-off-$25 printable coupon! Don’t believe me?

Imagine instead of the above scenario you bought:

1 Pampers Cruisers $9.99
1 Pampers Wipes $2.50
Subtotal: $12.49

Obviously, you couldn’t use the $5-off-$25 printable…

So after your $1/1 Rite Aid, $3/1 diaper, and $2/1 wipes, you’d pay $6.49. Maybe not a bad deal, but certainly not as good as making $2.50!

I hope my answer gave you a few ideas of how you could work your coupons at Rite Aid to buying what you need!

Did you know that when shopping at Rite Aid you can use a buy one, get one free coupon on a buy one, get one free sale to essentially get both items for free?

That’s exactly what reader Julie did last week at Rite Aid to end up only paying $1.01 in tax for everything pictured! Julie titled her email to me “I can’t believe I used to pay for this stuff!” Liberating, ain’t it?

You might recall back in March I did the same thing (BOGO coupon on BOGO sale) to score 6 items of Cover Girl cosmetics for free.

If you’re new to shopping at Rite Aid, you may want to print, review, and hang onto a copy of their Coupon Policy for handy referencing. You can then head on over to my Rite Aid deals for the week to plan an outing!

So enter in your information, but only submit once you’re sure you’re done buying rebate items for the month. When your check arrives, it will look like a little postcard. You can use it as a gift certificate for your next Rite Aid purchases or do what I do, just deposit it at your bank.

I have a particularly amazing reader shop to share with you today.

Jessica tells me she bought the following at Rite Aid over 2 days and 6 transactions:

Guess how much ALL of this cost her? Try $1.08 out of pocket!! Yes, you read that right! And that includes the diapers and batteries…everything.

EDITED: I went back to Jessica’s email and it appears the $1.08 is AFTER rebates and UP Rewards.

The tax alone should’ve cost her over $11.

Way to go, Jessica!

I think this illustrates that it is entirely possible to stockpile without breaking the bank.

See what’s on sale at Rite Aid this week for yourself.

Here’s what you should be aware of when it comes to shopping at Rite Aid:

1. Wellness Program! If you haven’t signed up for this new loyalty card, you should. You’ll be entitled to exclusive discounts plus you can rack up rewards – mostly savings on future purchases.
2. Video Values. Watch short videos to earn Rite Aid coupons, including a $5-off-$20 purchase!
3. Rite Aid Rebates. We are in the June Rebate Cycle. If you are new to Rite Aid rebates, scroll to the bottom of this post for additional help on getting started.
4. UP Rewards. These seem much like Register Rewards, except they print on the bottom of your receipt and appear to be an incentive from Rite Aid, and not the manufacturer. (Please note, I’ve seen your questions and concerns about this new program. I’m in the process of working with my Rite Aid contact to get some answers for you. Please stay tuned.)
