I was nervous to stop into Costco today. I dislike big crowds, particularly big shopping crowds, and I knew I was getting close to Christmas. However, I was delightfully surprised by how empty the store was this morning. Not too bad at all!
I came to write this post, yes, but also to finish up some Christmas shopping. So as much as I love deals at Costco, I’ve got to be honest, that’s not my main reason for shopping at Costco. It’s the fun stuff you just can’t find anywhere else. I had this revelation a few years back and this monthly feature was born. (And, it is to-date the most popular feature on this site!)
Here are a few of the things I found at the store today during my visit, in no particular order.
I love these hand warmers and used them just last weekend at my son’s soccer game! They are $12.99 for a big box of them. They also sell toe warmers, but I’ve never tried them.
I’ve heard good stuff about this beef bulgogi before – a Korean dish, though I’ve never tried it. Have you? If so, how do you prep it?
This 8-piecce OXO container set is selling for $44.99 and would make a nice storage set of bulk foods.
Shuffleboard table for $399.99. Can’t say I’ve seen one of these anywhere else.
I’ve seen these chicken breast burrito bowls at Costco on a few occasions, though they’ve never made their way into my cart. If you’ve tried them, I’d love to know your opinion.
Sometimes I wonder if those mini umbrellas are all that great. They seem to do poorly in the wind. Maybe it’s time to go back to one of these classic wood stick umbrellas for $19.97.
This would make someone very happy this Christmas! Rolling tool chest with counter for $299.99 after instant manufacturer’s coupon.
I own this item and it works great! I like to have it oscillate in my bedroom or living room on those chilly winter days when I can’t get warm enough.
I’m pretty tempted to come back to Costco for one of these huge sweet potato sides. Heck, they even have the pats of butter on them!
Here’s something to consider if you’re looking for an easy gift idea: gift cards! Costco has lots to choose from, and many are at a discount. For instance, you can score (5) $10 Taco Time gift cards for $39.99 – that’s a savings of 20%. Plus, you can divvy them up.
Gingerbread house kit for $9.79.
Check out this sample I got today! Awesome!
Here’s a wooden tool used for cleaning a BBQ. I wonder if it works? It was $19.99.
I totally bought one of these doormats for $13.99 and it looks great! I needed something like this for inside my house. This fits the ticket.
Costco has a number of pre-packaged gift baskets right now that I think would make nice gifts, like this one for $66.99.
I was excited to find these warm winter boots on sale for $29.97 today. I’d been looking for them, because I get really super cold feet and toes this time of year, particularly when standing on the sidelines of my son’s soccer games.
Of course, I had to try them on right then and there. And, I’m glad I tried them before buying because it turns out, I needed to size up. Guys, they are fuzzy all through the boot – not just at the top! I can’t wait to wear them. Bonus: they came with an extra set of laces in red!
I recently finished organizing my family’s photos and used these albums! They are a great deal. You get 2 in the pack for $14.99 right now and each album contains up to 300 pictures.
Here’s a little lap tray for $19.99, perfect for a small laptop.
This seems like a good deal to me, though I’m not a golfer. You can score 2 rounds of golf for the Oakbrook Golf Course in Tacoma for $39.99. Golfers, can you chime in?
This is a pretty attractive bird feeder, and it’s only $25.99.
This cake looked pretty delicious, and it was fairly heavy too (yes, I had to pick it up). I believe it was about $10.99.
Aromatherapy diffuser for $59.99. It includes three oils.
This very nearly made its way into my cart: a 20-pack of Otis Spunkmeyer Mini Loaves for about $6.99. Ten of the loaves were cinnamon, the others were lemon. I could just see me binging my way through this box though, so I left it well enough alone!
Here are 7 mini chocolate lava cakes for $8.99. Oh. My. Goodness.
I always love classic literature, all bound up and pretty like this. These are the kind of books you put out on display so everyone that comes to your house is convinced you’re very smart.
Huge heating pad for $28.99. I love heating pads (and so does my dog!).
Here’s a two-pack of Crock-Pots for $49.99 after instant manufacturer’s rebate.
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. It’s a super cute 24-month planner for $24.99. It includes sooo many cute things… pens, stickers, notebooks, washi tape. Are you feeling inspired to get organized yet?
Space saving pop-up laundry basket for $12.99. I like this idea, because I hate how much space regular baskets can take!
Today, I spent a total of $115 on the nose, mostly on Christmas gifts, but also on my new boots and doormat. I try to aim for $100 or less on my Costco visits, but I’m not too bummed about this result, especially given the items I purchased! Oh – I also have to share the other Costco purchase I made recently: a rental car! I ended up saving $40 by booking the rental car on Costco versus other online travel sites. I thought it was worth mentioning if you’re looking at making travel plans soon. Don’t forget to see if you can get a better rate at Costco.
There are dozens more features in this series, plus many other Costco posts at the blog. See my Costco page for all of them!
Now it’s your turn: what is your latest Costco splurge? What goodies do you like to buy at Costco for the holidays? Do you have a story about a Costco temptation you recently resisted? I’d love to hear about it!
