I thought I’d tackle my monthly Stuff I didn’t know I needed…until I went to Costco post a bit earlier this month. Two reasons: Costco is likely to get crazy busy as we approach Thanksgiving – and I detest crowds. Second, I am likely to get crazy busy as we approach Thanksgiving.
Now my Costco store happens to be right next to a Hobby Lobby, so I decided to pop in there first. Well, turns out they have all Christmas décor 50% off. Needless to say, I think I spent the better part of an hour at Hobby Lobby so by the time I got to Costco I was very hungry. I had completed a 45 minute workout this morning and I think it was starting to catch up with me.
It’s not surprising then that most of the items featured in today’s Costco post? Are edible. With that, here’s what caught my eye today (in no particular order):
Truthfully, I’m not much of a soda drinker. I do like it, but prefer to have it as a special treat. This Canada Dry Cranberry Ginger Ale definitely screamed “treat!” to me and I picked up a case for Thanksgiving. At $6.99 for a 24-pack, it works out to just $0.29 per can. I consider that a pretty stellar deal!
Nice kids’ easel selling for $69.99.
Here’s a 12-paclk of Bicycle Jumbo Face Playing Cards for $10.99 after instant manufacturer’s rebate. That works out to $0.92 per deck. These might make nice small gifts, stocking stuffers, or items for Operation Christmas boxes.
Smoked Salmon Trio for $14.89.
Selfie with the giant nutcracker! He’s $279.99, in case you’re wondering. I always wonder about the people who buy these things: where do you put them?
Get ready for all the Thanksgiving leftovers, people! This 24-piece set of Glad food storage containers is just $7.59 right now. I totally bought a set.
Halfway through my trip, I began to get even MORE hungry. Like that lightheaded, woozy hungry that’s no good at all. Then it occurred to me, duh! I’m at Costco! Let’s go find some samples. Unfortunately, all I found was a single piece of salami, some fried onions on lettuce, and a little container of baby yogurt. What’s worse, I noticed a couple ladies setting up their stations but it was clear it would be a long time since they’d be ready…
Spanakopita for $10.99 after rebate. This box includes 48 pieces, so that works out to $0.23 per piece.
I noticed lots of beautiful platters and food items that would work well for your parties. Such as this lovely platter of Baklava for $13.99. Why oh why could they not put these up for sample today instead of the fried onions?!
I think this is a really good deal: party pack of plates and napkins for $12.99. There’s enough in this pack to serve 50. I’ve seen Costco sell different themes of these plates before, such as colleges or Thanksgiving. This is the first time I’ve noticed a Christmas-themed version. Gingerbread House Kit for $9.79. I am usually a total dunce at these. I remember once being frustrated to tears trying to put one together (and yes, it was a kit). I haven’t purchased this Costco variety though, so I’d love to hear if you end up trying it out. I hope it goes well for you.
I actually own these bowls and have to say, they’re awesome. They get used all the time for serving side dishes, popcorn, and other snacks. Right now, you get the set of 4 bowls for $13.99 after instant rebate. That’s a great deal.
Don’t forget Fido this Christmas! This set of 3 critters is $6.99 after rebate. That works out to $2.33 per critter.
Minecraft collector case with 10 figures for $28.99.
Butter Cinnamon Sugar Loaves, 3 pack, for $8.99. Works out to $2.99 per loaf. I bet these would be awesome topped with fresh berries and cream. Or maybe chocolate drizzle. Or heated with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. (Can you tell how hungry I was at this point?)
Girls’ coats for $14.99. Costco has the best prices on kids’ clothes!
Huge poinsettia plants for $14.99.
Permanent hair removal thingy for $179.99. I am always curious what’s meant by “permanent” hair removal. Is it truly, permanent? And, I wonder how bad this hurts? If you own this item, I’d love to have you weigh in.
Don’t forget these 32 Degrees shirts and sets on sale this month. I know I write about them often, but for good reason. They are such good value for the money! The kids’ set includes a top and bottom for $7.99 after the coupon. My daughter loves to wear these under her cross country uniform. She also sometimes wears them as PJs.
Huge Seahawks Plush Throw for $17.99. I purchased one very similar to this branded with UW back in the fall and it’s awesome. I honestly should’ve bought another one since we always seem to fight over it. It is so warm and cozy.
This set would be an awesome gift for the little artist in your life! It’s selling for $29.49.
These Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut Cashews looked awesome. They were $8ish.
I thought this was stinkin’ awesome. 160-pieces of heavyweight plastic cutlery (80 forks/40 spoons/40 knives) for just $10.99. I honestly couldn’t tell that they were plastic until I got close enough to look.
Oh.My.Goodness. I saw this, and knew my son would flip! So yeah, I totally bought it for him for Christmas. It was fun wheeling it around in my cart through the store. I got so many fun comments from fellow shoppers and store employees. Now, if he can make sure to not use his sister or the dog as target practice… I really hope I don’t regret this one.
Need some giant yard décor for the holidays? Costco’s got you covered.
Aplets and cotlets 3-pack for $12ish. I love these!
At this point, I was SO HUNGRY I couldn’t think straight. So I boogied through checkout and stopped by the deli for a $1.99 slice of pizza:
I had all intentions of eating healthier than this today, especially given my workout. But at least I chose the kind with veggies, right?
All told, today I spent $92 including the pizza. Anytime I can leave Costco having spent less than $100, I call it a good day!
Now it’s your turn: have you seen (or purchased) any of the items on my list today? What else is standing out at you these days at Costco? How do you make it through a grocery trip when you’re hungry? Leave a comment below!
