In January and July, Target typically moves select toys up to 70% off clearance. This is not an advertised sale (so don’t bother scanning the ads for it), however it is widely anticipated among bargain shoppers and bloggers alike. The 70% off discount may happen at different stores at different times, but generally by mid-month to end of the month most stores will be at 70%. Once this happens, stuff flies!
First, let me provide some general tips about snagging some of these great deals:
- Watch the toys that are discounted 30% off: These are the ones that will eventually move to 50% (almost all the ones I came across are already this except Legos), and then 70% (provided they don’t sell out).
- Figure out where the clearance is in your store: At my Federal Way store, clearance toys are scattered throughout the toy aisles and end caps, I even found a couple of end caps by the electronics.
- Check individual discounts: See the signs above indicating toys were 30% clearance? Upon closer inspection and scanning, I found almost all at 50% and even a couple at 70%. On the yellow clearance tags, you’ll find a 15, 30, 50, or 70 in the upper right hand corner. That is the discount that particular item has been reduced by. If you have time I suggest you scan, scan, scan because prices can differ from the tag (please also put the toys back where you found them, rather then scattered by the scanners I saw baskets full by the scanners).
I was able to visit the Federal Way store and here is what I found, I also found some summer items at 50% off as well such as furniture, pillows, and outdoor lights too.
While this sign says 30% off, it’s actually all 50% off! Make sure and check the yellow clearance stickers instead of the signs! Those ride on cars were $17 (Reg. $34).
This was an end cap in the electronics department, so make sure and walk around the store, this sign is also says 15%, but everything on was 30 – 50% off.
A lot of games were 50% off. I found this Pie Face game 50% and mixed in with the regular games – not on a clearance shelf.
I spotted a lot of these Black & Decker toys on end caps and the regular shelf at 50% off.
Lots of Shopkins items these are still at 30% on the regular aisle, too.
Mix of toys in a front end cap of the toy isles, remember to walk and look for those yellow clearance stickers.
I found a lot of these type of spinners at 50% off. Are these still a hot item?
In spite of the 15% off sign, I spotted virtually everything on this shelf discounted by 30-50% off.
Legos were still 30% off, these are one I am keeping an eye on. These tend to move quickly, even at this discount. I will be picking a couple up when they move to 50%. Rarely will they get to 70%.
More games in the regular game section 50% off.
They did not have any pati0 furniture set up any longer, since they are setting up for back to school. They did have a few of these sets at 50% off!
Saw a couple of Barbeques at 50% off this one was $30 (Reg. $60).
Outdoor rugs too at 50% off!
Found this set at 70% off, I love these fun lights!
These outdoor lights at 50% off too!
A lot of bargain shoppers watch for this toy clearance to happen each year. Given that, be prepared! Once it drops to 70% off, it doesn’t last long at all as items will get scooped up. If you see something you really want at 50% off, I suggest grabbing it now! I have a gift closet I use for birthdays throughout the year and this is when I stock a lot of it!
What are you hoping to score this year, and what have you already found? Do you look forward to the toy clearance every year? And, please let us know what you’re finding at your Target store right now!
