How to Request Travel Guides & Maps from All 50 States

When I was in fifth grade, I did a report on the state of Vermont. Each of us kids had chosen a different state and then proceeded to write to the Department of Tourism in hopes we’d get something in the mail weeks later to use for our report.

Maybe you recall doing a similar project in grade school!

Fast forward to today. That process is so much easier, thanks to the Internet! My family and I have a goal of taking our kids to all 50 states and capitals by the time they graduate. We’re currently sitting at 20 and planning to cross off a few more this year.

We wanted to make sure we didn’t miss out on the best things to do in some of the states we’ll be visiting this year, so I decided to see if we could request travel guides and maps from some of the states. Guess what I found? You can request these for every state!

We did this process for about 8 states a couple of weeks ago and we’ve already received tons of fun brochures, maps, and guides in the mail.

I wanted to share this with you because I think it could be fun to do if you’re planning your own road trip. Or maybe you’re a homeschooling parent who thinks this could be a fun project.

Or hey, maybe your kids are bored to tears and you could “assign” them a state research project!
