Kidz Kaboodle (Tacoma Children’s Consignment): $0.25 Sale, July 29-30

7/19/16 Angela Russell

Kidz Kaboodle in Tacoma

It’s been a loooonnnngggg time since I posted about this sale, so I felt I might mention it again. Kidz Kaboodle, a children’s consignment shop on 6th Avenue in Tacoma, has a $0.25 sale the last Friday & Saturday of each month.

As the name implies, everything in the sale is $0.25! Back in the day, I made it to a couple of these sales and found that everything from children’s clothes and shoes to baby equipment was included.

Here are a few tips for shopping this sale, based on my experience and the store’s website:

  • Pack your patience. There are TONS of people who attend this sale and unfortunately, some tend to be on the grabby side. Remember to take a deep breath and smile.
  • The sale isn’t super organized. At least, this was the case when I shopped it a few years ago. There were a number of tables in a room that you would sort through the clothes. Don’t expect racks or even boxes with clothes sorted by size or gender. Be prepared to hunt.
  • The sale runs in the space next to the store. However, during the sale you’ll find additional discounts on items in the actual store.

The last thing I recall is that having cash *really* helps your transaction to go through smoothly at the end. I believe if you don’t have cash, you end up having to go into the store to finish your transaction versus at the sale itself.

If you’ve shopped this sale recently, I would love to hear your experiences and tips. Is it just what I remember it to be? Has it gotten busier? More organized? Please leave a comment below.

For more information, please see the Kidz Kaboodle website.

This Thurs & Fri: Kidz Kaboodle 25-cent sale (Tacoma, WA)

8/21/12 Angela Russell

Just in time for back to school, there is another 25-cent sale happening at the Kidz Kaboodle in Tacoma this Friday and Saturday (the 24th & 25th).

If you’ve never been, you might be interested to know that everything in this children’s consignment sale is priced at just 25-cents each! In my experience, you’ll find mostly baby and small children’s clothing, but a fewer items for older kids as well as maternity clothing. They also carry toys, shoes, and baby equipment.

Here’s what I ended up with for less than $10 when I shopped this sale one time:

A huge caveat here and I cannot stress this enough: this sale is not for everyone! You must be willing to navigate thick crowds and wade through tables of unorganized clothes piles. My favorite memory of shopping this sale is being smacked in the face from a flying onesie. You can also read some comments from readers who did this sale last time for their advice and stories. I have heard from some that this sale continues to get crazier – so consider yourself warned.

But if you can handle the challenge of aggressive shoppers and sale mess? I recommend checking it out – at least once to say you’ve experienced it! I also STRONGLY recommend leaving the kids at home if at all possible for this sale. The space is cramped and chaotic, so not the easiest place to add kids to the mix.

When you first walk in the store (it’s the space just adjacent to their 6th avenue store), grab one of the trash sacks and start shopping. My advice is if you see something you think you might want, grab it (nicely of course). At the end of the sale, you can shuffle through everything and make a final decision on your purchases. My other big tip: wear a smile and try to make pleasant small talk with the other shoppers. I found that this helped diffuse some of the tension I was feeling. Oh! and maybe shop with a friend or grab a cup of coffee before heading out!

If you’ve never shopped this sale, I highly recommend you read my post called Back from the Black Hole so you’ll be prepared. For directions and more information, please do check out the Kidz Kaboodle site (but be warned: it has audio! Turn down those speakers if you’re at work!).

Have you shopped this sale before? Tips? Are you planning on shopping it?

Tomorrow & Saturday: Kidz Kaboodle $0.25 sale (Tacoma)

7/28/11 Angela Russell

It’s time again for another $0.25 sale at Kidz Kaboodle in Tacoma! The sale runs tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday.

Have you ever been? If not, you might be interested to know that everything in this children’s consignment sale is priced at just 25-cents each! You’ll mostly find used children’s and baby clothing, but they also offer toys, shoes, equipment and maternity items.

Here’s what I ended up with for less than $10 at the sale last year:

This sale…is not for the faint of heart.

Plan on thick crowds, aggressive shoppers, and wading through piles of clothes on tables. My favorite memory of shopping this sale is being smacked in the face from a flying onesie. But if you can be patient, wear your best smile, and are in need of some clothes for your kids? Oh I recommend it! I also recommend leaving the kids at home if at all possible for this sale.

Kidz Kaboodle Sale (Tacoma): this Friday & Saturday!

9/23/10 Angela Russell

Guess what?

It’s time for another Kidz Kaboodle 25-cent sale! This fun sale runs the last Friday and Saturday of each month at its 6th Avenue store in Tacoma, Washington. That would be this Friday (as in, tomorrow) and Saturday.

Wondering what I’m talking about?

On these designated sale days everything – and I do mean EVERYTHING – in the designated sale space (which is just adjacent to the store) will be 25 cents. Clothes, toys, shoes, and if you’re lucky and willing to arm wrestle – baby equipment. I do recommend going on Friday EARLY for the best selection. You can read about my encounter for more helpful instruction. And you can visit Kidz Kaboodle’s site for even more helpful instruction.

By the way – do you see the items pictured above? These are items that reader Serena was able to score for just 25 cents each at last month’s sale!

Back from the Black Hole: the Kidz Kaboodle 25-cent sale!

3/26/10 Angela Russell

After hearing and seeing the success of some of my friends at the Tacoma Kidz Kaboodle 25-cent sale, I decided to give it a try. As a reminder, this sale occurs the last Friday and Saturday of each month and ALL items are just 25-cents! I'd gone on a Saturday before, but it was hardly worth the time or effort. I decided to hunker down and try a Friday instead!

Here's what I ended up with for $9.56 (and one shirt accidentally didn't make its way into the photo):

KidzKaboodle

So let me tell you a little about my trip. It. was. CRAZY!

The sale actually takes place next to the store, in an unmarked retail space. The windows are all clouded so no one walking on the sidewalk out front would be any the wiser about the chaotic operation that's happening inside.

I walk in, grab a garbage bag to fill with goodies, and proceed to the tables. These tables are FILLED completely with clothes…and there are women (yes, nary a man at the table that I saw) crowded around these tables DIGGING through the clothes. I had to really weasle my way in there…but once I did…it was actually quite fun!! Some people were perhaps a little pushy or fussy, and I did get smacked in the face with a flying onesie at one point, but most of the ladies were in good spirits and I laughed with several of them. (You MUST have a sense of humor to do this sale or you will go nuts!) One gal kept insisting she didn't see anything she liked, and I even tried to help her locate items for her unborn baby, but gave up after she kept sneering at everything. Whatever! If you have picky taste, I suppose this isn't your sale.

At the end of it, I was exhausted – but I'd end up with a huge bag full of items (35 to be exact) for my kids! It was worth it. I hop in my car and it reads 11:30. HOLY COW! Had I just been sucked in a black hole for an hour and a half? I had no idea I'd been in there that long!

Thinking about doing this sale next month? Here are my best tips:

1. Get there on Friday. Early. Don't wait until Saturday! Get their early, but be prepared to deal with the crowds.
2. Hang out awhile. Every so often, they will dump out MORE bags of clothes on the table!! Wait and you might be rewarded.
3. Leave the kids at home or with a sitter. This place is um…not the cleanest and there is a lot of commotion. I'm glad I left the kids at home! I saw some moms struggling with their little ones.
4. Be patient and come in good spirits. This is NOT the sale to go to in a bad or frustrated mood! Realize it's going to be crazy and prepare yourself ahead of time. Remember to take a few deep breaths!
5. Bring cash. The sale room can ONLY take cash. If you end up needing to pay by debit/credit card or check, they'll send you next door to the store to pay and then come back. Depending on how busy they are, you might have to do some more waiting if you can't pay with cash.

So what am I doing right now? Well, washing all those clothes of course! And then maybe organizing my kids' closets. Maybe. Unless the day turns out as sunny as I'm hoping it will be and then I'll make a good excuse to do something else.

This Friday and Saturday: monthly Kidz Kaboodle 25-cent sale (Tacoma)

2/22/10 Angela Russell

Kidz

This Friday and Saturday only, Kidz Kaboodle on 6th Avenue in Tacoma will be having its monthly 25-cent sale! Everything – kids clothes, baby equipment, shoes, and toys, will be just 25 cents! For the best selection, I do recommend getting there early Friday. I have gone on a Saturday before and it was pretty slim pickings.

Be warned that some of the people that attend this sale are INTENSE! That being said, the effort may well be worth it. Check out what my friend Susan scored at last month's sale for just under $13.

Making out like a bandit at the 25-cent sale!

1/29/10 Angela Russell

This morning, I had the pleasure of watching my friend Susan's two adorable boys so she could hit up the Kidz Kaboodle sale in Tacoma I mentioned earlier this week. As a reminder, EVERYTHING is 25 cents – including baby equipment! Susan ended up with 47 items of clothing for just under $13!! Of course, I immediately laid everything out on my family room floor so I could take this photo (thanks for humoring me, Susan!). I was really impressed – she found items with labels such as Gap, Polo, and Children's Place.

Clothes

She did tell me she had her eye on an exersaucer and as she reached for it, another lady snatched it and snapped "MINE!" For shame! I know that could not have possibly been any of my wonderful readers! Anyhow, be warned that some people get rather…er…intense about this sale.

As a reminder, this sale is still in progress through tomorrow. However, the only time I went, I went on a Saturday and did not nearly have the luck Susan did in going the first day of the sale. I also like how Susan got a number of items in bigger sizes - see how you can learn to "stockpile" other items than just groceries?

Anyone else do this sale? How'd you make out? I'll remind everyone of the February sale.
