The City of Federal Way is hosting a free recycling event for King County residents on April 20th from 9am to 3pm in the Wild Waves Parking Lot located at 36892 Milton Rd S, Federal Way. I attended this event a couple years ago when I was cleaning out the garage and it was well organized and they were able to accept so many things! This would be a great opportunity to get your rear in gear, get your house decluttered and organized and get ready to donate and recycle all those unwanted items.
Here’s what they’ll accept:
- Scrap metal
- Scrap lumber
- Branches & stumps
- Confidential documents for shredding
- Reusable household items for Goodwill
- Cardboard, books & magazines
- Styrofoam blocks & packing peanuts
- Tools for South King Tool Library
- Bicycles & Parts for Bikes for Kids
Please note that they are no longer accepting rigid plastic, as there are no current local recycling options for this material.
This event is for residents of King County. If this particular event isn’t jiving with your location or schedule, make sure to check out the King County Solid Waste Division Calendar for additional upcoming events. Also, there will be a second fall recycling event at the same Federal Way location (Wild Waves Parking Lot) on September 21, 2019.

PS – don’t forget that I compiled a great list of places you can donate your stuff year-round in Puget Sound!
