I happened upon a very intriguing event on Facebook this morning and wanted to share it with you. Like many people, I will be embarking on a house declutter (I think it’s just something about wanting to put away those decorations and tidy up after Christmas!). In that process, you’re sure to stumble on items in your house that you’ve been hanging onto and meaning to fix… but maybe you’re not sure how.
Enter Fix-it Fairs. These FREE pop-up fairs have been happening since October in locations around Tacoma, in hopes of making them more accessible to everyone. And, it looks like there’s one coming up in January at a new Tacoma store called Second Use Building Materials. (Pretty sure I need to look into this further!) Other stores will be teaming up including the Chayah Boutique and Tacoma Tool Library. Can’t make the January one? There’s also one in February and it appears the events are ongoing. I’d recommend you keep an eye on the Fix-it Fair’s event page.
- Donate Unwanted Items. Since you’re doing that big declutter, you’ll be happy to know that Chayah and Big Brother Big Sister will be on hand to take your clothing, appliances, and unwanted items.
- Get your Items Fixed for FREE. Yes, that’s right – they’ll repair those items you need a skilled hand with!
According to the Facebook page, you’ll need to message Second Use ahead of time to let them know what you need fixed. This is likely to ensure that they’ll be able to help you and have the right tools on hand.
Since we’re talking about decluttering and donating, can I point you to this post I wrote last year?
I took some serious time to round-up a list of local charities that will take your old appliances, wedding dress, furniture, clothing, mattresses and more. Make sure to read and bookmark the post Where to Donate your Stuff in Puget Sound.
