How to Place a ClickList Order and Save Money: From Start to Finish

I’ve been writing about ClickList for the better part of a couple years now, and for good reason. The service is incredibly user-friendly and I find it usually ends up saving me money, too! Placing my order online reduces splurge purchasing plus, I am able to access exclusive ClickList-only savings.

If you’ve been on the fence about using it, or maybe just curious to learn more, today’s post is just for you! I worked on my own order yesterday and thought I’d walk you through the steps.

Step One: Reserve your Time!

In the past year, ClickList rolled out same day delivery. That means you can place your order in the morning and pick it up on your way home from work or soccer practice!

In the upper right-hand corner of the ClickList screen, you’ll see the earliest possible time you can receive an order. I worked on this order at 10:50 am yesterday and as you can see, it’d be ready in just a few hours. Just sign in and reserve your time slot.

Step Two: Add Items to Your Cart

Within ClickList, you can begin adding items to your cart. For today’s purposes, I’ll be placing this order primarily using my desktop. But you can certainly use a mobile device (such as a smartphone too). In a bit later, I’ll show you how you can actually use both your desktop and mobile device on the same order!

ClickList makes it easy to find what you need. The “Start My Cart” section will display items you frequently have purchased.

My Sale Items are items that are on sale this week that ClickList thinks you might be interested in. Check out the Cherries – there’s actually a loadable coupon available! This is one of the advantage of using ClickList – it’s possible to find savings on items you might not have otherwise found in the store.

Here’s my tip: I like to plan my menu while I’m shopping ClickList. I take a few minutes out to figure out my dinners and lunches for the next few days, then I add those items to my cart right away. I start my ClickList order by first placing all the ingredients in my cart. After that, I consider breakfasts, lunches, snacks, personal care & any household items I may need.

Step Three: Look for Savings!

Before just placing an order, I like to take a few minutes to see if there are any free bonus offers or ClickList-Exclusive coupons. One way to do this is to check out my Best ClickList Offers post, which I maintain on the regular!

I like to look for ClickList coupons on my phone. So while I have my order going on my desktop, I get my phone and open the Fred Meyer app and head to coupons. From there, I type “ClickList” in the search bar. This will display all the Clicklist coupons currently available.

Now, if you see a coupon you like, you can load it to your card by clicking the button. I found a coupon for Hershey’s chocolate syrup that looked good yesterday. Once I loaded it, it asked me in the app if I’d like to add an associated product to my cart. I said “yes” and was able to see all the eligible items I could use the coupon on.

I then click “add to cart.” Guess what? This will automatically sync with the order you’ve got going on your desktop! Ta da! In this particular instance, this was a great deal. The coupon was $1.25 off and the item was on sale for $1.99. That’s just $0.74! I also found a coupon for a FREE Artisan bread (value: $1.59). I really encourage you to not skip the step of looking for those coupons!

Step Four: Review and Place your Order

When it’s time to check out, you’ll be able to do a final review of your order.

Take a good look at each item in your order. If you are OK having them substitute with another brand, you can leave the box checked. There are times you may want to uncheck the box, however. For instance, if you are dead set on wanting the organic brand ONLY or you’ve got a coupon that will only work on a certain variety. In my experience, substitutions usually get you an upgrade. I’ve gotten organic produce when they were out of conventional. I’ve always gotten price adjustments on the substitutions, too.

Pay attention to the special instructions box too. I use this liberally on my orders! You can put things like “I’m making guac today, please select ripe avocados!” or “I’d like about a pound and a half of ground beef.” They usually do a terrific job honoring these.

I should mention here that unfortunately, you will not see coupons or discounts when checking out. You’ll see them once you actually pick up your order. I hope that ClickList will consider changing this as I know lots of couponers and bargain shoppers would like to ensure the coupons are working. If you’re new to ClickList, the first three orders are free. After that, it’s just $4.95, which I think is completely worth it considering the time it saves me (and often, money!).

Step Five: Pick up your order!

You get a one-hour window of time to pick up your order, but I can tell you that I’ve been able to pick up slightly before and after that window, too. If I’m early, I’ll just call and see if it’s ready. If you’re later than expected? Just call and let them know. I once had an issue where I couldn’t pick my order up until about 2 hours after my window, but the ClickList team was so great and they kept everything cold and ready for me.

When you show up, just park in one of the designated spots and let them know you’ve arrived. It’s as simple as that! They will then bring your groceries out to and complete the transaction curbside. Super easy. Sometimes, they’ll give you a survey at the end of the transaction. I recommend you take it as you’ll be rewarded with fuel points.

I hope that today’s post has nudged you to give ClickList a try! For more information, see my ClickList FAQ post, and do make sure to check out my best ClickList Coupon Offers post, too. I’d love to hear from you: what do you love about ClickList? Do you have any tips to add to my list?

  1. Thank you for this post, I am getting ready to place my first order. I see where you say that coupons and discounts are not listed at checkout. Is there a way to know if you have added the free items?? Thank you
