Personally, I prefer shopping online to hitting the stores on Black Friday. But there is one glaring exception to this rule: Fred Meyer. Fred Meyer’s sale is just well, friendlier, than other Black Friday sales I’ve shopped. The people are nicer, the stock is always plentiful, and can I say… the donuts?
Whether you plan on shopping this sale for the first time this year, or if it’s an annual tradition in your household, I have a few insider tips for shopping this sale like a pro.
Tip #1: Review the deals ahead of time.
The last thing you want to do is stumble into the store without a plan! View the Fred Meyer Black Friday ad ahead of time, jotting down which items you’d like to snag and which departments they’re in. (If you need some guidance, I’ve highlighted my favorite deals from the ad at my Fred Meyer Black Friday post.)
You should also take note if one or more of the items you want will be in limited supply. Fred Meyer has done a very good job of noting these limited quantity deals (there are a few in the electronics department). Obviously, you’ll want to make a bee-line for those items first!
Tip #2: Shop a larger Fred Meyer store for more doorbuster items.
Here’s a neat tip I got a couple years ago from my friends at Fred Meyer: some of the larger Fred Meyer stores may carry a couple more of the hot doorbuster items. If you really have your heart set on one of those “10 per store” items – you might consider this.
Tip #3: Don’t forget the FREE coffee and donuts.
Probably the best thing about shopping at Fred Meyer’s Black Friday sale is that they’ll be giving out free coffee and donuts! In my experience, there is always plenty to be had.
Tip #4: Sleep in, the socks can wait.
While Fred Meyer’s Black Friday sale starts at 5 am this year, it also runs ALL DAY! If your goal is to score the 50% off socks deal, there’s no reason to set the alarm for 4 am to make a mad dash to the store. I’ve found a huge selection of socks quite late into the sale – and lighter crowds, too. I’ve also learned that Fred Meyer will have less “limited stock” type items this year. (Another reason to hit the “snooze” button!)
My kids and I were at Fred Meyer a few days ago and we noticed our store was really ramping up for this sale!
Tip #5: Doorbuster items may be scattered throughout the store.
Believe it or not, some of the home and apparel items may well be stocked as overflow down the grocery aisles. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, try there! At our store last week, we noticed they were starting to place large displays of items such as tools, toys, and small kitchen appliances throughout the store.
Tip #6: Don’t forget your Rewards (and Rewards coupons)!
Make sure to use your Rewards card to earn valuable fuel points on your purchases. If you don’t already have a Rewards card, sign up online NOW to save time in the store. And, if you’re already a Rewards member, don’t forget your Rewards coupons! I have a few I’ve been hanging onto that would pair perfectly with some of the doorbuster deals. For instance, I received one for $3 off a toy or game purchase of $3 or more. How awesome would that be with the buy one, get one free game sale?
Tip #7: Nix the cart and long lines!
Want to grab just a couple items and get in and out? Nix the shopping cart and opt for one of the Black Friday shopping bags Fred Meyer will have available. To get out quickly – remember that there are checkout stands in multiple departments. The team at Fred Meyer recommends heading to grocery if you find the wait times are long in apparel or electronics. Either way, I’ve heard from the folks at Fred Meyer that most check stands should be open for the sale to help get you out quickly.
Finally, remember to be courteous and kind. Those store employees? They got up really early to help you score your deals. Those other shoppers? They want the same thing you do – to get the best prices on holiday shopping and leave the store in one piece. Put on your best smile and happy shopping!
