Main & Vine: Get to know this unique Kroger Store in Gig Harbor, Washington!

Several months ago, my parents told me how they’d discovered the most amazing new grocery store in Gig Harbor called Main & Vine. They described the beautiful store layout, organic produce, quality food items – but they also mentioned that they’d spied more than a few good deals. These two concepts – healthy food and affordability – don’t often come together in a grocery store in my experience. Bottom line, I was intrigued.

Main and Vine

About the time I was planning to visit, I received an email directly from Main & Vine. They felt their store would be a good fit for my readers (hey! that’s you!) and they were excited to share more about the vision of their unique store. I’ve had the chance to visit the store twice now and I wanted to give you a sneak peek of what you’ll find inside.

Main & Vine Interior

The first thing I noticed when I walked in is how airy, bright and spacious the store was. I could tell from all the displays and cases that this is the kind of store I could really linger in.

Main and Vine Beverages

In the front part of the store, you’ll find all kinds of beautiful and healthy quick-fix foods and beverages.

Noodles, anyone?

Main and Vine Pizza

My kids quickly eyes the wood fire pizza station! My son had been complaining about being hungry, so we ordered him and his sister a slice.

Main & Vine My kids ate their pizza (only $6 for two HUGE slices!) and my husband helped himself to a local IPA they had on tap while I shopped the store. (YES this place has beer and wine as well as coffee you can enjoy in store!) I think it’s safe to say my husband will be joining me on future shopping trips here. They have TVs with sporting events playing in the seating area and I hear they sometimes have live music.

Pokemon Go at Main & Vine

Check out what my husband found perched on his beer! We couldn’t help but notice the tables in the dining area have USB ports built in them. To me that screams, “hey! Sit awhile; no need to rush!”

Main and Vine Olive Bar

Back to the store! If you love fresh, gourmet foods, you’re going to love this place. They have an amazing olive bar…

And more salads than you can shake a stick at!

Main & Vine Specialty Cheese

Main & Vine has a solid selection of gourmet cheese, both locally produced and from around the world.

Main & Vine Beer & Wine

Conveniently, the wine is right next to the cheese! On both days I visited the store, there was a wine tasting event happening.

Frozen Prepared Foods at Main and Vine

Just past the wine, is one of the most unique displays I’ve ever seen at a grocery store! Here you’ll find frozen prepared foods such as cod tikka masala, pesto shrimp, cilantro lime rice, and smoked salmon chowder that you can buy in bulk. The idea is simple: scoop as much as you’d like, pay by the pound, and then head in a skillet for 8-10 minutes. Voila! My husband didn’t need convincing to try a couple of these dishes!

Maine and Vine Bulk Foods

I always love a good bulk foods section! I found a wonderful selection of dried fruits, spices, nuts, and snacks at Main & Vine. They also give the customer the ability to weigh and print a label for bulk food items. This is a feature I’ve never seen at any other grocery store and I bet it’s a convenience for both the customer and the cashier!

Main and Vine Housewares

Next to the bulk foods, you’ll find a few beautiful displays of housewares items.

Main and Vine Produce

What about the produce? I know some of you are thinking. Not only did I find the quality top-notch, I was excited to find lots of locally-sourced produce such as these Walla Walla Onions. I also noticed tayberry flats from Sterino Farms in Puyallup! In addition to local and organic offerings, I also spied some hard-to-find items such as passion fruit and turmeric root.

Wide Aisles

I wanted to give you a glimpse of how spacious I found the aisles at Main & Vine. I don’t know why this is the case, but often I find high-end and specialty grocery stores have narrow aisles and so many items just packed in. It ends up giving me sensory overload. Not at Main & Vine! The easy, simple flow of the store makes you feel relaxed and not rushed.

Main and Vine Local Foods

In speaking with the team at Main & Vine, one of their guiding principles is to connect local communities to their local food producers. For fun, I decided to see how many local items I could truly find. I was impressed! I found local foods featured on just about every category I looked – whether honey, whiskey, frozen fruit, oatmeal, jelly, soup, produce, bread, yogurt – there were small, local companies featured.

Main and Vine Deals

Now you might be thinking, “Angela, I can just tell from the looks of that store that everything is going to be overpriced. I just know it!” But here’s where things get exciting: I found lots of solid deals throughout the store. They carry the Simple Truth label as they are a Kroger store, and I’ve shared many times how I feel that label is such a good value for the money. A few other deals I spotted during my trip: Kind Bars for $1.25 (my personal stock-up price), Horizon Mac & Cheese for $1, whole Tuscan cantaloupes for $2 each, and a 9 oz container of dates for $3.49 (that’s an awesome deal!).

Mobile AppWhile Main & Vine isn’t tied to your other Kroger loyalty cards (think Fred Meyer, QFC), they do have a mobile app. Through the app you can earn “perks” which can add up to big savings. In addition, there are special offers that can pop up through the app. For instance, the in-store barista mentioned to me that sometimes people get free coffee offers through the app. You can download the app through the Apple Store or Google Play. (Learn more at Main & Vine.)

Main & Vine Wall

Now that I’ve given you a virtual tour of the store, I’ve got some exciting news to share. I’ll be teaming with Main & Vine to share their bi-monthly ads here at The Coupon Project. Additionally, I’ll keep you in the know of upcoming special sales and events as well as sharing recipes and ideas that feature items I find at Main & Vine.

The first ad I’ll be sharing will go live this Wednesday (August 3rd), so I encourage you to keep your eyes peeled for that. In the meantime, I encourage you to visit the store for yourself to see what it’s all about. Main & Vine is located at 5010 Point Fosdick Dr. NW, Gig Harbor, WA. You can also connect with them on Facebook and check out their website for current deals and recipe ideas.

Now it’s your turn: have you had the opportunity to check out Main & Vine? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I live in Gig Harbor and have been to M&V a few times. Just for the record you cannot do your normal weekly shopping here and maybe they are ok with that. The specials are usually a good or great deal. I went in today and they were out of their biweekly ads, not a huge problem but I do like to see all the good deals in one place. I have had difficulties with their app and when I called the help number they were absolutely no help at all. This is a fine place to pick up dinner on the run or if you are looking for something a little bit different but in no way will this take the place of a full on grocery store.

    • Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

I’ll be sure to pass along your notes about the app and help number to the team.

  2. We love Main & Vine. We shop there regularly for their awesome produce and free range eggs. They have a very large selection of kombucha that I love, and Ellenos yogurt, which is amazing. I usually find a great deal in the bulk foods aisle on nuts also. While I agree I cannot do all my grocery shopping here because I have a very large family, it’s a weekly must stop for me.

    • I noticed that yogurt on my last trip in and it looked amazing! I guess now I’ll have to pick it up on my next trip.

  3. Great article Angela. I live here in Gig Harbor and am now referring to the store at MV rather than QFC-taken me a while. I don’t do my regular shopping there BUT I do some produce shopping and I can always find my almond cheese there and I check out the specials. I am there every Saturday morning getting a latte. I do like the atmosphere and they have a great bulk section. I am in there at least once a week and yes they do have live music as one of my best friends and her husband occasionally play there on Saturday evenings. They have a great seating area and the variety of meals to go quickly is very good. I love to just wander around. Thanks for coming and visiting!

    • It is definitely a store I could get lost in wandering around – or putzing around on a lazy Saturday (whenever I have a lazy Saturday, that is!).

  4. We have dentist/orthodontist appointments in Gig Harbor, and I think I’ll visit M&V for bulk items (and to putz around and look, lol), but our local QFC has many of the same features: an award-winning sushi counter, excellent deli and wine choices, and nice wide aisles 🙂

It’s disappointing that they don’t use the same Kroger rewards system as other Kroger stores, though…
