What’s better during these chilly fall nights than a roaring fire and curling up with a delicious holiday beverage? Not much, I think! I’ve got the perfect wassail recipe for you today, and you can enjoy it spiked or not (but I’d definitely spring for spiked!). Make a big batch for your next holiday party or even to enjoy over the weekend.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/2 gallon of apple cider
- 6oz of frozen Orange Juice, concentrated
- 1/3 cup of brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons of honey
- 1/2 an orange
- 6-8 whole cloves
- 1 cup of fresh cranberries
- 3 sticks of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 small lemon, cut into slices
- spiced rum, optional
As an added tip, consider purchasing your spices in bulk to save on cost!
This recipe is every bit simple as it is delicious. In a large pot over medium high heat, add all of the ingredients and bring to a slight boil.
Lower the heat to medium low and allow to simmer for 30 minutes before serving.
Your kitchen will smell absolutely heavenly by this point – perfect to set the mood for your holiday party!
Now for the adults in the room, you can make it spiked by adding the desired amount of spiced rum. Enjoy!

In the Wassail recipe it says 6 oz. Concentrated OJ. In the photo it shows already mixed orange juice being poured in the pan. Which one is the correct one?
Loved this recipe! I made a double batch (with frozen concentrate OJ) and it was devoured at my holiday party. A warm cocktail was a nice change from the usual fizzy holiday drinks. It goes down smooth, and makes the house smell great!
Denise – The liquid you see being poured in is the apple cider. Hope this helps!
