This month, we’re tackling all kinds of little projects around the house in a series I’m calling (not surprisingly) Taking Care of Small Things. Think of it as a different approach to a fall clean. Each of these tasks should take you roughly an hour or less, but may well save you big time and money down the road!
We’re over a couple weeks in and I have to say, these little projects are making such a huge difference in my life! As I’m taking care of things like making spare keys, changing the furnace filter, and organizing our first aid supplies, I’m finding myself more and more motivated to tackle other, often forgotten projects.
For today’s task: we’re organizing our linen closets!
Here’s my linen closet. It’s in my kids’ bathroom and oh boy, was it a mess! Maybe your linen closet is smaller, bigger, or elsewhere in your house, but I hope this process won’t take more than an hour!
Some of the things you might consider doing when tackling your linen closet:
- Completely remove linens so you can clean the shelves and reorganize (if necessary).
- Wash any musty-smelling items.
- Remove any non-related items and put them where they belong.
- Purge any items that you no longer use.
- Consider moving stockpiles of bath-type items to your linen closet.
My linen closet was a complete mess!
I had lots of blankets falling off of shelves, towels disheveled. To be honest, I think that this is one of the reasons I dread putting away laundry in there!
So, I put on a podcast and worked on my linen closet, shelf by shelf.
Honestly? This task only took me about 20 minutes. And it’s tidy! I think I found a few sheets I didn’t realize I still had in the process!
OK: you’ve been challenged! Let me know how long it takes for you to clean out your linen closet!
I’d love to hear what you’re thinking of this series! How are you feeling after tackling some of these little, nagging items? What other tasks do you think I should make sure to tackle before the month is through?
