9 Best Strollers for Big Kids

There are a lot of things that the “experts” deem necessary for parents to buy for their kids. While many of those things aren’t necessary (I still think wipe warmers are ridiculous), strollers are a must-have, including strollers for big kids.

While your 3-, 4-, or 5-year-old will probably do lots of walking when you’re out and about, they’ll also hit a wall sooner than you might think and need a rest.

Having a high-quality stroller that meets their bigger size will make both you and your child happy: they’ll get a place to take a break, and you’ll get to stay out a little longer without hearing all the whining…hopefully.

1. BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0

The BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 is a fantastic stroller for older children, with lots of bells and whistles to justify the higher price tag.

It’s designed as a jogging stroller, but you can use it on any terrain. Its mountain bike-style suspension helps your child feel fewer bumps, and the air-filled tires allow for an ultra-smooth ride on any type of terrain.

BOB Gear has seriously thought of everything with this stroller. It has an adjustable 9-position handlebar which allows caregivers of any height to push the stroller comfortably. (Seriously, nine positions!)

And you’ll be able to stash all your stuff with the extra-large cargo basket underneath the seat, plus 6 storage pockets located around the stroller. There’s also a full-coverage canopy to keep your little one covered up if necessary.

In terms of comfort, you can have your child sit fully upright or opt for a near-flat recline, and you can adjust the recline with just one hand.

You can check on your kiddo through the peek and chat window that has a quiet magnetic closure.

This stroller has a durable, lightweight aluminum frame with easy-remove rear wheels in case you need to fit it in a smaller trunk or other space.

Note that there are extra accessories that you may want to purchase for extra features, including a snack tray, a deluxe handlebar console with tire pump (and a cupholder), and/or an infant car seat adapter.

Maximum height: 44 in.

Maximum weight: 75 lbs.

UPPAbaby G-LUXE
  • NEW! 2018 model G-LUXE Stroller
  • One-handed actuated recline and adjustable footrest
  • Large stretch knit canopy with extendable UPF 50+ sunshade for great sun and wind protection
  • Easy to remove washable fabrics
  • Included cup holder. DO NOT use abrasives

Another great stroller for older kids is the UPPAbaby G-LUXE. This is a lightweight umbrella stroller that is perfect for quick trips or for traveling. (I like to keep an umbrella stroller in the trunk of my car for those just-in-case moments.)

Umbrella strollers for big kids aren’t always known for their comfort and storage, but this one has both. Its seat can recline to three different positions, one of which is almost entirely flat.

It has an adjustable footrest which is great for older kiddos. It also has a higher seat back than most umbrella strollers, making it suitable for taller children.

Other features include a removable cup holder (a rarity with umbrella strollers), removable seat fabric for spot cleaning, and fantastic canopy coverage which extends for more sun protection.

In terms of storage, this stroller has a large, easy-access basket that holds up to 10 lbs. It also has a stretchy pocket on the back for any caregiver essentials.

When you’re ready to pack it up, there’s no foot action necessary – you can just use your fingers! It has a kickstand that allows it to stand on its own. And the carry strap allows you to sling it over your shoulder for easy travel.

Maximum height: 45 in.

Maximum weight: 55 lbs.

Stroller weight: 16.3 lbs.

What we like: Lightweight frame, higher seat back, easy to fold and take with you

3. Britax B-Lively Stroller

Britax B-Lively Stroller
  • The B-lively stroller is lightweight with all wheel suspension for smooth rides and one-hand, quick fold makes it easy to store and go
  • Convenient features: XL storage basket with front access, ventilated UV 50+ canopy, large zipper pocket and peek a boo window
  • Relax and recline: Infinite stroller seat recline to accommodate sleeping infants or attentive toddlers
  • Travel system ready: Compatible with all Britax infant car seats; adapters included
  • Fit: Suitable for babies up-to maximum of 55 pounds; maximum unfolded stroller dimensions 33 x 23 x 40 inches (LxWxH)

If you’re looking for a great stroller for older children, the Britax B-Lively Stroller is a good bet for everyday use. It has a lightweight design that makes it easy to transport and features that you’ll use each time.

Note that while this stroller has a 3-wheel configuration, it is not a jogging stroller. Still, it has all-wheel suspension for smooth rides. You can also purchase it with Cool Flow High-Performance Fabric to keep your child comfortable.

This stroller has a footrest, which is great for older kids who need a place to put their feet. It also has a ventilated canopy with a peek-a-boo window that keeps the sun’s rays away when necessary.

Another feature is infinite recline, which means that there aren’t fixed spots where the recline “stops.” Instead, you just adjust it to any degree that you need.

One thing that caught my eye was the extra-large storage basket with front access. This means that even if the seat is reclined for a sleeping kiddo or to accommodate an infant seat, you’ll still be able to get to the storage space.

You may be interested in purchasing the additional accessories which include a child tray, wind and rain cover, stroller organizer, sun and bug cover, and/or cup holder.

PS – There is a Britax B-Lively Double Stroller option if you need it.

Maximum height: 44 in.

Maximum weight: 55 lbs.

Stroller weight: 20 lbs.

4. Baby Trend Expedition

Baby Trend Expedition
  • Large bicycle tires roll effortlessly over all surfaces
  • Front swivel wheel for easy maneuvering, locks for jogging. Recommended use: 6 months - 50 pounds or up to 42
  • Reclining padded seat with 5 point harness, tether, large canopy and storage basket
  • Convenient child and parent trays with 2 cup holders
  • Easy compact fold for storage or travel

The Baby Trend Expedition Jogger is a more affordable option for a jogging stroller for big kids than the one previously mentioned in this list.

Since it’s a jogging stroller, it comes with a lockable front swivel wheel, all-terrain bicycle tires, and a tether strap so the stroller won’t get away from you while jogging.

But even though it’s a jogging stroller, it’s also great for everyday use. We like that there are two trays: there’s a hinging child tray with two cup holders in the front, and a parent tray with two cup holders by the handle.

The parent tray also has a covered storage compartment, which is perfect for stashing a phone or keys so they don’t fall out while you’re running or walking.

Your older child will like the adjustable canopy to keep the sun and wind out of their face. The seat is also padded and can be adjusted to multiple positions.

Other features include an extra-large storage basket and a trigger fold that reduces the stroller to a very compact unit.

Reviewers did state that while it’s easy to push and has a slim design, there’s no suspension. That means it’s probably better for short jogging sessions or walking at a quick pace, just to make sure your kiddo is comfortable.

PS – Need this, but in a double stroller? The Baby Trend Expedition Double Jogger is available!

Maximum height: 42 in.

Maximum weight: 50 lbs.

Many of the features on the BOB Gear Revolution Flex 3.0 are also available on the Duallie, including mountain-bike style suspension, plenty of storage (10 pockets!), and a 9-position adjustable handlebar.

This stroller is great for parents with an infant and an older child since you can purchase a car seat adapter that allows you to push a baby in a car seat right next to an older kiddo.

Since it’s a double stroller, it’s a bit of a beast – over 33 lbs.! Still, reviewers say that it’s still easy to fold up and put away when you need to.

Maximum height: 44 in.

Maximum weight: 50 lbs. per seat, 100 lbs. total

Stroller weight: 33.1 lbs.

  • Baby Jogger's signature one-step fold with auto-lock ensures easy transportation and storage
  • The near-flat recline seats and adjustable calf supports provide maximum comfort so your children can stretch out and relax

The Baby Jogger City Mini 2 Double Stoller is a great option for an everyday stroller if you need to push two kiddos around. (Note that despite the name of the brand, this is not a jogging stroller.)

Even though it’s a double stroller, it’s designed to fit through standard doorways. It’s also designed to be very easy to push along a sidewalk or indoors.

We really like the versatility of this stroller. It has four different modes of use, so you can customize it however you need it.

This double stroller offers separate seat reclines and adjustable calf support so each child can sit or recline in a way that’s most comfortable to them. And the sunshades are separate, so you can adjust them individually.

Other features include a one-hand fold with auto lock and a large storage basket that holds up to 10 lbs. and can be accessed from the front or rear.

PS – Don’t need a double stroller? The Baby Jogger City Mini 2 Stroller is worth a look.

Maximum height: 44 in.

Maximum weight: 50 lbs. per seat, 100 lbs. total

Stroller weight: 31.8 lbs.

If you’re looking for a great travel stroller for big kids, the Delta Children The Clutch Stroller is a great option. It’s specifically designed for travel with a compact, super-fast fold. It even comes with its own travel bag!

Even though it folds up so small, it still holds kids up to 50 lbs. It also has a giant storage basket so you can keep your hands and arms free while you’re pushing your kiddo around.

We think this is a great option for travel and for outings with an older child that doesn’t always want to ride in a stroller. You can keep it packed up when your child doesn’t want it, then pop it open when they’re ready to ride.

Note that with the smaller size you are trading off a few creature comforts. There’s no recline function and no cup holder, and some reviewers state that the adjustable sun visor doesn’t offer much coverage.

Still, for quick trips and for travel, this stroller is a good bet for a smooth, easy ride.

Maximum height: 40 in.

Maximum weight: 50 lbs.

Stroller weight: 11.7 lbs.

What we like: Packs up quickly and compactly, comes with a travel bag, very lightweight

  • Meets ASTM safety standards and is JPMA Stroller Certified
  • Push, pull or pull alongside; lockable handle for easy pushing
  • Accommodates an infant car seat (Adapter sold separately)

We know what you’re thinking…isn’t the Veer Cruiser just a fancy wagon? Well, yes and no. It’s a stroller wagon hybrid that is great for big kids.

This stroller wagon is an all-terrain cruiser that can be used basically anywhere (although you probably won’t want to go jogging with it). Push it just like a stroller or pull it just like a wagon.

Want to take this stroller wagon on an off-trail adventure? You can do that, as it comes with large rugged, knobby tires. Real wheel fenders keep it from kicking up mud into your face as you push.

Once you’re done with your outdoor adventure, you can just hose the whole thing off.

It seats up to two children with a 3-point safety harness in each seat. You can also purchase an adapter to attach your infant car seat to one of the seats.

Despite its size and weight, it has a fast, compact fold. It comes with two cup holders and one snack and drink tray to help keep all passengers hydrated, fed, and happy.

There are lots of extra accessories available for purchase, including a retractable canopy, weather cover, additional cup holders, travel bag, and more.

Reviewers state that the steering is very sensitive, and don’t forget that with any wagon, one child will have to ride backward.

If you want a stroller wagon but don’t quite have the budget for the previous option, the Keenz 7S Stroller Wagon is another fantastic stroller for older children.

You’re able to push or pull this stroller wagon since it has a two-handle design: one in the front, and one in the back. Each handle adjusts to 10 different positions.

Each of the two seats has a 5-point safety harness to keep your kiddos safe and secure. There’s no option for an infant car seat adapter and no recline, so it’s best for older children.

Extra features include a canopy with cover, cooler bag, and cup holder. There’s also spring suspension on all four wheels to make for a smooth ride.

The removable canopy has drop-down drapes which can be pulled down for privacy, and if your child just needs a break, you can pull down the side curtains to help prevent sensory overload.
