Quick and Easy Pizza Stromboli Recipe

Pizza is pretty much a “staple food” in our house. With 5 kids at home (3 of them teenage boys) we seem to average at least one Costco pizza a week. And while we love our Costco pizza, sometimes it’s nice to mix it up a little and consume our pizza a different way.

I was at that point where you decide you need to start using up some of the food in the freezer and fridge before going shopping, and I came across a loaf of frozen white bread dough. BAM – instant inspiration.

I love this recipe because it’s quick and easy and you can pretty much use any toppings you want on it. It’s also an easy recipe to double if you have more mouths to feed or want some leftovers for breakfast. Yum!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 loaf frozen white bread dough, thawed overnight in the refrigerator
  • 1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp Italian seasonings
  • Toppings: I used crumbled Italian sausage, pepperoni, sliced ham, and sliced bell peppers.  But the sky is the limit here! Olives, mushrooms, banana peppers or jalapenos, I could go on…
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

Take out your thawed bread dough and roll it out to about 10 in. x 14 in. I then placed it directly onto a pre-cut piece of parchment paper. I LOVE these things. No sizing guess work here. You pull one out of the box (you get 22) and they are the perfect size for a standard baking sheet (not to mention non-stick and easy clean up!)

Next spread pizza sauce onto your dough. I usually use around a 1/4 cup. Some people like heavy sauce, some lighter – you decide! Leave about an inch border all around your dough. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, then add meat and lastly your veggies.

Brush the edges of your dough lightly with your egg.

When you have finished loading up your dough, roll it up and pinch the seams together.

In a small bowl, mix together your Italian seasonings, crushed red pepper flakes and remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese. Sprinkle the top of your Stromboli.

Using a sharp knife, make slits in the top of your Stromboli about 2 inches apart.

Bake your Stromboli at 425 for 17 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve your Stromboli with heated pizza sauce for dipping and enjoy!
