10 Legit Ways to Get Free Clothes Online

Clothing is one of those expenses that is unavoidable, right? I mean, you don’t necessarily have to have designer clothing, but you do need clothing.

Being the frugal person I am, I’m a firm believer that there’s always a way to get something for free – almost always. Luckily, clothing is one of those budget items you can get for free.

Whether you’re completely content with clothing from Walmart or you insist on wearing the latest fashions and most popular name brands, there are ways you can get at least some of your clothes for free.

I’m talking clothes for women, men, and children as well. There are options for getting all of your family’s clothing and paying nothing to do so.

How to Get Free Clothes

Check out these options for getting free clothes and see if any might work for you and your family.

1. Use Referral Programs from Clothing Sites

An easy way to get free clothes is by shopping at many of the online clothing stores. Not only will you be able to get clothing at super deep discounts, but you can also often earn cash for free clothes simply by referring friends to sign up.

Here are some of the online clothing sites that will pay you in cash or credits for the store when you refer friends, join or shop online.

ThredUp

Here’s how ThredUp works. You send your high-quality clothing that you no longer want to ThredUp. When they receive it, they’ll assess it and give you a credit to ThredUp so you can get clothes for free.

You can also get credits for referring others to use ThredUp – up to $10 per referral.

With ThredUp you’ll only find items in excellent condition, so you can be sure you’re getting quality clothing at a great price – especially if you get it for free by using store credits!

Rue La La

Rue La La offers up to 70% off of name-brand clothing, accessories and more for women, men and children. This is a members’ only site, so you need to join to get the great deals, but it’s free to join.

How can you get free clothes with Rue La La? Simply by referring friends. For every friend you refer that makes a purchase, you’ll get a $10 Rue La La credit.

You can use those credits to get clothing for free on the site.

2. Search for Clothing Swaps

Clothing swaps are becoming more and more popular. You can find clothing swaps on Facebook or join online clothing swap sites.

It’s also possible to host your own clothing swap by listing items you want to get rid of and encouraging people to offer you items of their own for trade.

For example, you can set up a clothing swap day with friends and family members who have kids with ages similar to yours.

Check out Rehash if you’re interested in shopping at an online clothing swap that’s already set up and ready to go.

Rehash

Rehash allows you to list the clothes you have that you want to swap for something else. When you list, you can give specifics about what you want to trade for.

Another option you have is to simply put “anything” in that section and see what kinds of offers come your way.

There aren’t any fees to join Rehash or to list or sell your items, however, you may have to work out shipping plans and costs with other swappers.

3. Earn Points to Get Free Clothes

One way to get free clothing is to use one (or more) of the many programs out there that will pay you in points that can be converted into cash. You can then use that cash to buy clothing.

Some of these programs will offer the option of paying you in gift cards to your favorite stores as well. Here are some of the more popular ways people earn points (or direct cash) to buy clothing and other things.

4. Check Craigslist and Other Sites

Another way to get free clothes is to check Craigslist or other similar sites and look in their “free” section.

Many times you’ll find people giving away baby clothes, kid’s clothes, and men’s and women’s clothes just to make a quick declutter of their house.

When I checked our local Craigslist site I found someone giving away two bags of baby clothes, and another person giving away a garbage bag full of women’s clothing.

You might assume that people who give away clothing are only giving away stuff that’s not worth wearing, but that’s not necessarily the case.

When I lived in an affluent suburb (before we bought our hobby farm) people would often give away really nice clothing for free. The reason is they didn’t need the money or want the hassle it would take to sell it.

It was just easier for them to put it all in a box and label it “free”.

Bonus tip: you can also get other free items from sites like these if they’re in decent shape. Then, sell them online and use the money to buy clothes at no cost to you.

5. Market Place Giveaways

Many marketplace websites have people who give clothing away for free or ask very little for the items. It may take some time to sort through the sites to find them, but deals are out there.

Common places to look are Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist. You might even find groups on Facebook of people who don’t mind swapping or giving away clothes. It might take a little time to find the right group based on the type of clothing you want, such as kids, adults, etc., but they can be a great resource.

6. Freecycle.org

Freecycle is a non-profit that connects local people with the goal of reusing possessions and giving them a new life, not to mention preventing unnecessary landfill waste. With over 10 million viewers and serving over 5,000 towns, Freecycle aims to make a difference and strengthen communities all over.

Freecycle works a lot like Craigslist because it’s organized by location, making it easier to pick up the items you claim. The nice thing is that everything listed is free. Also, new items are listed often, so check back frequently to get the best items.

7. Tryspree

Tryspree is a website that brings free samples to users. It only permits items to be posted on the forum that are absolutely free, and that includes shipping.

Because of this, no credit card is required. Of course, you’ll have to share your personal information to get the clothes, but free clothes can be worth it.

Tryspree offers free clothes for everyone – men, women, babies, and kids. It is a first come, first serve process and the offers change often, so check back and see what’s available. Once you receive your free clothing items, all you have to do is leave a review!

8. Amazon

You might not think of Amazon to get free clothes, but there are many opportunities. Even if you can’t get free clothes, Amazon often offers amazing deals that give you clothes for next to nothing.

Testzon

If you want ways to truly get free clothes on Amazon, try Testzon. This site offers free and discounted products from Amazon. The difference with Testzon is sellers must approve your request, especially if they’re giving the clothes away for free.

Sellers often do this to get more people to learn about their products. They’ll often ask for an honest review in return for the free products.

AMZ.One Deals Club

AMZ.One Deals offers significant discounts on Amazon products, including clothing. You can save 50% to 100% on clothing, sometimes getting the items for free. The deals change often, but clothes are often included in the deals.

9. Product Testing

Believe it or not, you can get free products from big-name companies, including:

  • Adidas
  • New Balance
  • Nike
  • Reebok
  • Under Armour
  • Saucony
  • Board Vitals
  • Carhartt
  • Glamorise Wear

All you have to do is apply to the company’s product testing program. Some companies give you the items for free to wear and keep, and others give you a few days to try them and then send the product back.

Companies do this to get feedback and for you to spread the word about their products.

10. Earn and Spend Rewards

If you have a credit card that earns rewards or cashback, these can be used to get free clothing. With a cash-back style credit card, once you reach a certain amount, you can cash them out for whatever purpose you want – in this case, “free” clothes.

Certain points credit cards allow cardholders to redeem their points once they hit a certain amount. These points can be redeemed at specific retailers or to receive gift cards that can be used to obtain free clothing.

Summary

There are many ways to get clothes for free or cheap if you’re willing to put in some legwork.

Give these options a try and see what new styles you can bring to your closet without breaking the bank.
